Continuing ignition timing debate from the 416 thread.

Gentlemen the discussion was interesting and since y’all (we) were asked to leave I thought I might try to pick it back up here. Please continue.

    Holley metering blocks and emulsion

Came across something I’ve never seen before and I’ve done more than a handful of these. I’m going through and building a carb for a friends stroker small block ford mustang street car. He provided the carb. Where it originally came from is unknown but it’s a complete Holley list 80570. The...

Anyone ever use one of these electric speedometer drives?

I bought a complete American powertrain T56 kit from a friend a while back and this black box was in it. It’s called a Cable X, made by Abbot Enterprises inc. It is designed to accept a signal from a VSS on a modern transmission and do some mathy things, then spin an electric motor to drive the...

Let’s talk about the 8-1/4” diff

This should be a fun little topic. I’m planning to do something most car guys will say is not very smart. So I figured I’d ask and find out how many of you guys are just like me, dumb. How much power have YOU successfully put through an 8-1/4 rear end? Not just cruising around, but actually used...

    Duct tape drags 2025

Freiburger announced a few days ago that the 2025 duct tape drags are a go again for this year. October 17-18. It’s a great time and really all about just having automotive fun. We’ve gone 5 years in a row now. This year I’ll be driving my D100 out and making passes in it, possibly with a little...

    Lions Motorsport Museum

My girl and I woke up early (for a Saturday) and headed out to Lions (drag strip) Motorsport museum for a breakfast, auction, and swap meet down near Long Beach today. I had never been to the museum before and I’m always looking to buy cool vintage hot rod stuff so it was well worth the $20 to...

Has anyone here used any of the available TPS kits sold for use on a Holley carb? Looking for pros/cons or user experience good/bad. Links below to a few of the different ones I’m considering. Thanks. Holley 534-214 Holley TPS Kits | Summit Racing AccuLink TPS Kit - Throttle Position Sensor...

My search for a shorty D100 is over

After a few years of wanting and searching for a very specific (and as it turned out hard to find) dodge d100, I found what I was after. My “must haves” I was not willing to negotiate on and I passed on many, many trucks because they were missing one or two important things to me. The list is...

    Duct tape drags 2024

Who’s going? This will be our (my girl and I) 5th year of attending. It’s a damn good time and I know a few FABO members usually show up. Unfortunately none of my A body junk is ready so I’ll be making passes in the daily if they’ll let me. Plan is to meet at Irwindale drag strip early tomorrow...

    Magnum 5.9 piston crown thickness

I am going to be fly cutting a stock set of magnum 5.9 pistons so I cut one with a broken skirt in half to see how thick the crowns were. The thinnest part (in the dish) was .230 and the thickest part was .320.

    Shout out to Howard’s Cams

I’m sticking in a cam in a 318 this weekend and I’m cleaning parts in preparation. Needed a set of lifters and decided on Howard’s 91711. I disassemble and clean any lifter that goes in an engine I put together, and I just finished these. Gotta say, other than some light machine oil, these were...

    [FOR SALE] Edlebrock 650 avs2

Since there isn’t a “trade” section my price is $1 and a set of headers if anyone is interested. I have a brand new edlebrock 650 avs2 1905 manual choke that came with a car I just bought. It was on the engine and I saw a video of it running but the fuel system was a temporary set up and if I...

Well, I drug home another one

I didn’t really need another Dart, I have two and this is the third. I really wasn’t even looking for another Dart. I’ve actually been looking for an early D series shortbed truck lately. But I saw an add, noticed the seller was a friend of a friend, and made a few calls. That was Tuesday, I...

Don Hamptons birthday party at Hampton Blowers

Went to Hampton blowers in Downey Ca for Don Hampton’s birthday cacklefest. Lots of cars showed up and made plenty of noise. A few boats also. It was a great time. Enjoy some pics I took.

    Plug read, opinions needed

Guys, I spent all day on the dyno yesterday. 26 pulls total, lots of carb tuning. Not a mopar so don’t hate me. This is the big block Chevy for my boat, twin turbo, pump gas, low boost, blow through set up. I know how to read a plug, but I’m seeing something I’m not familiar with. On the very...

Paging Mr Rat Rod. Mr. RustyRatRod your carburetor is ready

@RustyRatRod I dug out the Weber that’s been sitting here at my shop for at least the last 10 years. It’s yours if you want it. I mis spoke when I said it was on a vw intake, this appears to be some kind of old triumph intake made by a company called Cannon. I have no recollection where I got...

    [WANTED] 4” in dash tach

Anyone have a 4” in dash tach they’d like to sell? I need one for my run stand. I am not picky about color or even really condition. As long as it works well and can be read. I have a hole cut in the gauge panel already and really don’t want to make it larger/smaller so hopefully someone has...

Why didn’t I build this years ago?

So earlier today I was replying to this thread, Narrowing my own 8.75. Questions. and I want to post a few pics of my 8-3/4. It was stuffed back in a corner of my shop on jackstands. I damn near broke my back lifting it up and repositioning the stands and setting it back down. Solution? Time to...

    Aeromotive fuel pump

I have used aeromotive fuel pumps in various projects now for about 10 years and have never had a single fuel pump related failure, until last night. Driving my dually home from work, went to pass a semi and the engine blubbered. Looked at the wideband and saw 17:1. Not good when the turbo is...

My new CSU blow through 750

This post is not necessarily to brag about my new carb, (although I am really excited about it) but more to commend a great builder supporting our hobby. I ordered this carburetor from CSU a while back for the turbocharged big block Chevy I built for my boat. I filled out his build form and...
