I used orange on a lot of engines I rebuilt. A lot of years have gone by since 1983.

This is what I could find. It is a cut down original. I also have this one, you could cut down to be very close to original.

4 7/32 ID is the right size for early AFB's. I might have an original base, will check tomorrow. Or you can find a standard base and cut the outer diameter to the filter pad. That 4 7/32 ID is used on most AFB's up to 1967 and larger 2 barrel carbs on big blocks.

596 castings are 77-83 360 heads also used on 318 HP engines from 1981-1983. Factory pistons had a 1.74 compression hight.

I doubt it. Dual snorkel air cleaners were reported to run the same as no air cleaner on 440 Cop cars.

I would not do any mods to that carb. They were so good as they came for a "72" 340.

Drain the gas from the tank and replace fuel filters. The rest sounds good. Keep everything, and I mean everything, till you are happy with results, there is a lot of substandard junk out there. Hopefully that 273 is not stuck and she will fire right up.

While you are in there get a 4.2 lever and adjust to "67" 273 Commando specs. You will also need a small inch pound torque wrench and a square socket. Up the pressure also. If the trans is older, you can also add part throttle downshift from A & A transmission.

I used to rebuild a lot of 350's way back in the day. Never would I hone one of them without a torque plate and the mains torqued. They would move all over the place, and not by a small amount.
