I do it in the vise. Remove the rod and piston. Put rod in the vise with 1/4" piston clearance. Now pry piston off rod. Be sure you have a new rubber "O" ring.

Rubber bands are "anti-rattle" for the pads.

Normally, assemble engine with head gasket, heads and cam. With clay on top of piston, rotate piston 180*. Remove head and measure thickness of clay.

No neutral safety switch on a 4-speed. You are looking at a backup light switch. Attaches at the firewall connectors near the wiper wires.

In my experience any "rust preventer" only lasts 1-2 years. For me, I paint those parts a matching color giving the illusion of natural.

For 904 kick down band= tighten band to 72 in/lbs and back off 2 turns. For low/reverse band= tighten to 72 in/lbs and back off 3-4 turns.

As like rope seals, a small amount of seal above the block allows for crush/tension upon installation. I use a very small film of RTV on rubber seal ends.

I plan to keep my car for a long, long time. And in that time someone will ask how much HP? To answer that question, and for my own curiosity, I dynoed mine. I hate amateurs wild estimates of their HP.
