Lets see those living rooms & trees

Was thinking of you all this Christmas. Haven't been back on here for a while but wanted to thank everyone for the help and good times we've had over the years. Merry Christmas! Lets see those living rooms and trees!

How do you tighten the steering up?

The steering has some play and is kind of loose? Is there an adjustment on the steering box? Thanks

How do you take the center hub cap off?

How do you take this center hub cap off? Do you have to pull the whole wheel off? It won't come off with a screwdriver prying it and I don't want to break it. Also, how do you get it to stay on tighter and not rattle? Thanks!

    Knocking sound near tire

There is a knocking sound when I drive it. It sounds like it is coming from the passenger side rear area. It has been doing this for a while. You can't really hear it when you are driving faster, but it is pretty loud and noticeable when driving around 5 to 20 mph. I thought that maybe the...

    What are these parts?

I found these parts in a box in the trunk when I got the Scamp a couple years ago. What are they? Are some brake drum parts?

    Canyon Lake Car Show

Here are some photos from the show at Canyon Lake today. My dad's T-Bird is next to my car. There weren't too many Mopars, but here are most of them.

    Sore throat question

Has anyone ever had long term soreness in the throat? A couple of years ago my moms throat was sore for several months. It went away but has been sore again for the last 9 weeks. She also has pain on her side under the rib cage and around the back. Mostly in the right back area. She's been to...

    Exhaust manifold leaks

My passenger side manifold has an exhaust leak. It seems to have started after the engine was rebuilt. I just had the exhaust system done and it still leaks around there. They said it was coming out near that heat riser thing and where it connects to the head. There is a lot of rattling noise...

    Exhaust and Muffler Recommendations

I might do dual exhaust on the 318 with 2 1/4" pipes and Flowmaster 40s. I've had them on two of my other cars and like them. I believe I read here that dual 2 1/2" would be too much for the stock motor. I like how the factory tailpipe is barely visible, so I was thinking about keeping it...

When to change the oil after rebuild

My 318 was rebuilt about four months ago. When should the oil and filter be changed? There is around 50 miles on it. Any special type of oil needed? Thanks

    Scamp at Rod Run

Just sharing a some photos. Took the Scamp to the Temecula Rod Run for the first time. My dad brought the '55 T-Bird. We both won an award! We've had the '55 since I was about 1.

    Hard starting when cold

Had the motor and trans rebuilt recently. The distributor and wires are new. It is usually hard to start when cold now. I hold the starter for several seconds and nothing, then try it several more times and still nothing. Then, after a couple of minutes I will try again and it finally starts...

    Help on engine oil level

I got my car back from the shop a few days ago. The engine and trans were rebuilt. I decided to take a look at the oil level and see how clean it is. Nothing shows up on the dipstick! The car has been sitting since saturday so the oil should be reading everything. I added a quart of 10w40 and...

    Steering / Suspension Noise

I've noticed a bit of front end creaking noise ever since the motor and trans were put back in. It kinda sounds like metal fatigue noise. Hard to explain but similar to the hood opening and closing. It does this occasionally when turning the wheel and I can kind of feel it on the floor (almost...

    Question about leaks

My engine and trans were rebuilt. I noticed a couple drips of oil at the back of the engine. The transmission also has a couple from the tail shaft and I believe the speedo cable on the side. I know the car is like 40 years old. Should I still expect no leaking at all?

    Windshield washer pump motor

I just got new washer bottle and hoses. My original motor still works but when I tested it with water, it leaked out the little weep hole in addition to the main hose connection where it is supposed to come out. Does this mean the seals inside are pretty much gone and I need a new motor? I...

    Brake light switch adjustment

My brake lights are staying on. They will turn off if I pull the pedal up. I looked under the dash and the brake pedal is close but does not push the switch when resting. The manual says to adjust it by removing the nut and sliding the plate closer, but, there is no nut. I can't get to the...

Engine rebuilt and ready to go back in

I decided to leave the Scamp totally stock for the most part. Thought it would be nice to bring it back to the factory appearance. No fancy valve covers, intake, headers or anything. I wanted to coat the manifolds in a gray cast iron finish but couldn't find it locally. So silver will have to do.

    Rust powder in A/C lines

Right now we have the engine and trans out and the engine bay was just painted. I have most of the A/C lines out and I'm cleaning the outside of them up. I noticed that this orange powder keeps coming out. Then I shook the A/C drier and it sounded like it had sand in it. I thought it might...

    Best tow rope location

The engine and trans are out and we are taking the Scamp several blocks down the street to the paint shop to do the engine bay. What is the best place to attach the tow rope to? Any do's or don'ts? Thanks

    Windshield wiper motor wires

Anyone ever rewire the wiper motor with new wires? Mine still works but, the insulation on the wiring going into the side motor is all cracking off. The bare wires are pretty much touching. The insulation is cracked beyond the hole they go through into the motor so I haven't been able to put...

How to check if trans is original

I wanted to check if my 904 is original and #s matching. Where would the number be stamped? I'm getting my engine and trans rebuilt now. I know the engine matches but not sure on the trans. Thanks

    Getting Transmission Rebuilt

As much as I would like to rebuild it myself, I decided to take the Scamp in to get the transmission rebuilt next week. It has the 904 with the 318. Is there anything specific to ask or watch out for? Specific shift kits and maybe a new stall converter? I know it should match the cam but I...

    Coolant Leak

Sometimes there is a small puddle of coolant on the flat area on top of the front cover. It's hard to tell where it's coming from. I changed the small bypass hose. It seemed like it stopped but then the engine overheated after driving a few minutes and then steam/coolant started coming out...

Attaching new wire to original antenna

Having trouble finding the right connector for the ol' antenna. The original wire wasn't completely there and had been cut. I ran a new wire from the radio to the inner fender. The problem is that no one has the right size adapter to plug into the original antenna base. The adapter I bought is...

New door jamb switch doesn't match

Happy New Year! Gotta problem here. My original door jamb switch for the passenger side is broken. It is the 2 wire style. I went to Napa and got a new one but when I tried to install it, the threads were smaller than my original so it won't screw in. I tried Kragen and it was the same size...

Applying silicone grease to plug boot

Quick question. My plug wires came with a tiny packet of silicone grease. It says apply it thinly to the interior of the boot and to all sides of the distributor rotor tip. So not necessary on the metal correct? It doesn't say to apply it to the metal connectors or anything but I thought that's...
