    1972 Dodge Dart 440ci

I'm down to $10,500. There is no way you could build this car for that.

first 11,500 can take it home. This is ridiculously cheap for the parts in this car.

    Gearing question

I am in St. Louis, MO. The car pulls pretty hard all the way down the track, I don't think it's leaning out. The plugs don't show a lean condition. I don't know what the car weighs, I would be guessing. It weighs what a stock dart does only with a big block. My cooling problems are on the...

    Gearing question

70dartman, Does this 440 car your driving have any cooling issues? I seem to fight my car to keep it cool. I have a aluminum 2 row radiator with dual 11" electric fans from Be cool. 180 degree thermostat, hi-flow water pump. I almost wonder if the coolant isn't moving too fast thru the radiator?

    Gearing question

I still think the car has more in it also. I am discouraged about the results so far, but hey thats part of it. I think the car will go mid to low 11's in the end. The TTI headers I run are the shorty tri-y style. The flow could be better, but thats wjhat came on the car. I know that's hurting...

    Gearing question

I had the car on a chassis dyno about 2 years ago. Tell me what you think about this. The pull started at 2400rpm and eneded at 6200rpm in 3rd gear. It had a level 300hp all the way thru that range. It never varied more than 2 or 3hp. That tells me the trans or converter has issues, but I don't...

    Gearing question

I thought the same thing about the slip. It would seem the tranny is letting go. I do need to pull the motor and get the block decked to get the CR up to 10:1, but don't see that happening until winter at the earliest. (I bought the car this way, I would've done it from the get-go.) I appreciate...

    Gearing question

Here's the rundown on the evolution of my car. 1st trip to the track: street tires that are 27" tall, 4.56 gears. 60' was 1.88, 1/4 mile was 112mph and 12.8 seconds. I spun pretty bad, was on 6400 rpm crossing line. 2nd trip: I bought street slicks that measure .75" shorter than street...

I need a BB rocker arm!!! Help!!!

I need a Comp Cams stainless steel left hand rocker arm for a BB. The cornhole that put my motor together had the shafts upside down. I gaulded one to the shaft at 7k rpm! Luckily that was the only damage, whew! Comp Cams has them backordered, and I just found out it will be ANOTHER 2 weeks, at...

    Another lifter question

I adjust mine in the spring after I have it up to operating temp for the 1st time while it's still hot. I recheck it about July. Usually have 2 to 4 that are out of adjustment by .001" to .002" at the most.

    chassis dyno results

You are exacly correct, it is just a number. I am heading for Gateway this coming Tuesday night to see how it does on the strip. This will be the first trip to the track, so we'll see.

    chassis dyno results

they didn't give me a torque reading. I think you may be right, it very well could be a bad reading. The reading has horsepower vs mph. There were other cars there that I couldn't believe the reading s were as high as they were. A 390 powered Mercury cougar, iron heads, eddy intake and eddy carb...

    360 overheating -please help

On a motor like that, your initial timing will need to be 12-16 degrees, total no more than 36 degrees. Because of the cam overlap, some unburnt gas is going into the exhaust port and igniting there, raising temps. I actually run 22 degrees initial and 34 total in my 440 dart, and it runs cool...

    chassis dyno results

I had my 73 dart on a chassis dyno this weekend. I have a 446, 9.98:1 compression, Mopar .557" lift cam, roller rockers, Eddy 84cc chamber aluminum heads, M1 intake, Holley HP750 carb, TTI headers and good flowing exhaust, 727 trans built with a 2400rpm converter, and 4:56 gears in the rear...

    440 total timing

Thanks all. I have sent the dist. to get the curve done. It had 24* of mechanical advance, and it is having it all in by 1600rpm. I am going to set initial at 20* and total will be at 34*. I will have about 4* of adjustability with the screws on the plate. I am sending it to BFO, if any of you...

    440 total timing

Could the missing out at cruise speed when timing is at 36 be a result of a lean condition? The plugs are light grey when I pull them out. The motor heats up VERY quickly upon startup after sitting all night. Maybe this is it. I have 80 in front and 82 in back. I will bump them up and see what...
