the stop bushin only stop the amount of mech advance, the spring stiffness is wat will control the rpm range, so i think the 25 stop bushing miht be ok so i can run intial at 8-10 degrees and if i change to lighter springs the i should be able to get all in at 2200, 2800, 3400, 4000, 4400 or...

oldman i put the higher stop bushing in the dist. stock is 21 which, according to msd, would be all in around 3600rpm. I thought a longer spark advance would keep my power building as i revved up but now i'm thinkin i want all power available at lower rpms too

rebuild it! I got my 904 rebuilt had it built for my est 400hp 318/390 stroker, i had a locally owned shop with great reputation do it and if i remember right it was around $1200 incl the 3000 stall convertor

Another thought and problem i had is the throttle cable, might be sticking/hanging up somewhere between the pedal and the carb linkage. I fought with my carb and i think i had over tighened the hold down nut because it would stick open and idle would slowly lower, made shifting into drive a lil...

Zelus, sorry if i misinformed you i was referring to the butterflies at the bottom of the carb, the secondary butterfly plates are mechanically linked to the primarys and they should open and close freely with the linkage, the upper plate on the secondaries is counter weighted and only opens...

yup thats def on my checklist before it drops backin, pretty sure it was the pan gasket though. Poured oil out from there wen i tilted the block back, hole was prob 1/4" wide X 3/4" long, so i think it was puking outta there gettin thrown around by the flex plate soaking everything and dripping...

agree with all above get one from your local wrecker for a few bucks, i paid 35 for mine out of a 98 dakota v6 and fit no prob to my 70 318, all i needed to do was add a terminal (and shrink tubing to weatherproof the connection) to my wiring harness and it was easy to clear my headers
