    A thought about my brakes...

For the right price, I'd consider shipping you the green turd!

I imagine that was the line that was triple the cost of the of the others. Makes sense now!

    A thought about my brakes...

The comment about not knowing how old the fluid is, it's too old, I think is what sparked my question. When I first got the car from my in-laws, I figured it just needed new front shoes. So, I got those replaced. I knew that wasn't the issue because the shoes on it, while likely old, had...

    A thought about my brakes...

Hoping somebody will tell me that my thought makes sense (or doesn't). 74 Dart Sport, 65k miles, 225 and an auto transmission. Other than a couple patches of steel in the floor boards, the car is bone stock, including the drum brakes. I drove the car the other day, something I've only done...

Free US Mags...will they work for me?

Or, I could use the fronts, with the 3.5" bs in the rear of the dart to shove the tire outboard and get the same size tire and wheel with a 4.5" bs for the front. This would give me, I think, a modern look and solve what I think was one of the biggest design flaws of cars of this era, the rear...

Free US Mags...will they work for me?

Sad. I guess they'll make a great platform to hone my wheel polishing skills on!

Free US Mags...will they work for me?

I may look into offsetting the springs in the rear if that'll get me there. First, however, I need to do the brakes and axles. I figure I have a year or two before these get on the car. In the meantime, I think slotted mags would look pretty awesome polished to a mirror like shine!

Free US Mags...will they work for me?

I just picked up a set of US Mags off of Craigslist, for free. The price was right regardless of whether or not I can make this set of wheels work on my 74 Dart Sport. All four wheels have a 3.5" backspace and the 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern. Fronts are 15x7.5 Rears are 15x9 They were on an...

[FOR SALE] 1974 Dart Sport (Everett, WA)

After much soul searching, I've decided to sell my Dart. This was purchased new by my wife's grandfather and, considering its age, hasn't put very many miles on its own wheels...just ~65k. I won't bore you with any more of my in-law's history with the car...unless you ask. First the good...

Pin holes in trunk above fuel tank

The car was my wife's grandfather's. The rest is minimal. So far it's the pin holes in the trunk, a small spot in the forward portion of both sides of the floor pan, and a spot in the inner wheel well where some undercoating cracked and was packed with dirt. I assume there's also some rust...

Pin holes in trunk above fuel tank

While I haven't even bought a welder yet, let alone figured out how to work one, I'm starting to deal with the rust repair on my 74 Dart. In the spare tire well, driver's side, above the tank are some pin holes. Is there a good way to deal with this without pulling the tank? If they weren't...

Thinking of selling my 74 Dart. Need help with value.

AMEN!!!!! I'm in the Seattle area. I really don't see many of these cars. A few Swingers, but almost never see Sports.

Thinking of selling my 74 Dart. Need help with value.

Ultimately the car is worth whatever somebody will pay for it. If you were selling a Bugatti Veyron, I might offer $20 because I think they're hideous. Plenty of other people would pay you a $1 million + for it. And, frankly, before I brought this thing home from my in-laws, I was thinking...

Thinking of selling my 74 Dart. Need help with value.

I have a vision for the car! Or had one. My goal was to take make it look a little more modern. Lowered a touch, not much, just a little, bigger wheels, remove much of the chrome trim, and make everything clean. I think folks have talked me off the ledge, at least for awhile. I think...

Thinking of selling my 74 Dart. Need help with value.

Frame appears solid. While I could do a better rust inspection with the car on the lift, I think I know where everything, or is suspected to be. The photos show the years of leaking wiper seals and either the trunk seal or rear window. Based on the head liner, now in the garbage with the...

Thinking of selling my 74 Dart. Need help with value.

So, the more I dig into the project, the less I want to do it. The biggest draw for me to work on this car is that my wife's grandfather bought it new. It also only has 64k miles. It runs great, although it needs a tune up. The brakes are, well, 4 wheel drums and act accordingly. The tires...

    Making it a better driver

Thanks for the recommendations! They're both practically around the corner from me. I assume you meant Jay's not Ray's? I assume that's the place with all the blocks in the window. Kinda looks like a fun place! I've been looking for a decent exhaust shop for another reason too, less...

    Making it a better driver

I'm going to start even more simple...I still need to transfer title! My in-laws mailed the signed title to me earlier this week so that'll get done tomorrow. I'll start on some tune up work (there is much to be done), but I'm going to focus on the brakes first. I think calling those brakes...

    Making it a better driver

The bolt pattern is measured across lug nuts (skipping one) correct? Because measuring like that, it's 4.5". If you measure to the adjacent lug nut, it's 4 inch. The tape measure don't lie!

    Making it a better driver

Finished up a bit early today so had some time to crawl under the car. I most certainly DO have drum brakes. But, there appears to be a ton of grease coming from around the ball joints especially on the driver's side. The grease is basically right at the drum and I can't help but imagine that...

    Making it a better driver

... With 67k miles and had never left the family! And, I'm getting great stuff out if this!. It's hugely helpful for strategizing what I need to be looking for. Some of it is basic, like do I have discs or drums up front? Some will require grabbing service records from my FIL. He had been...

    Making it a better driver

You're assuming I've had the car long enough to look at these things! I know I have 14" wheels with bicycle tires on them. I know they have hub caps on them. I actually have no idea what's underneath the hub caps. I was basing my assumption of front drums based on the terrible brake...

    Making it a better driver

-- it'll be just fine at 75 which is where I tend to be in the those 70 mph zones. ----- Or are you referring to the joke of a suspension currently under the car? That's gonna get fixed too! -- I always run 5 to 6 MPH over the posted limit, also. -- On the other issue, I thought you...

    Rubber bumper thingies

74 Dart Sport First off, what the heck are the rubber thingies called that stick like 15 feet out from my bumper? If I knew what they were called I could probably do a search for how to deal with the next item... When I rip those stupid things off, what would go in their place?

    Making it a better driver

Wife unfriendly equates to price tag, not power. She hasn't expressed any desire to drive it. That said, the appeal of sticking with the six had more to do with it seeming like the path of least resistance to finished car. Like I said, there's an ad on Craigslist right now for a 360 with a...

    Making it a better driver

The debate, for me, is while I can pick up a 360 cheap, with a transmission, I'm looking for simple and more budget friendly and thus more wife friendly. I'll stay with a tune up and I'm guessing the gas is old which won't help anything! I'll look into dual exhaust, maybe headers, maybe duals...

    Making it a better driver

So, after three years of talking about it, I finally went and picked up my wife's grandfather's 74 Dart Sport. It needs a fair bit of work to make it pretty, but it runs o.k. and has low mileage. I'm starting to make my list. The first questions coming up are driveability. I don't need a...

Where to start with the weatherstripping

I'll ask where the water first shows up when it leaks. It might be obvious, like the side of your head is getting wet when somebody fires a hose at the back part of the window. Or, your toes get wet when the hose hits the cowl. Or, I'll add cleaning the cowl area and fixing the wiper shaft...
