    1975 Duster original 6 to 383

After building my 440 Duster I have often thought about a stroker 360 instead. I wouldn't change, but I think it might be the wisest route. :burnout:

    Still overheating

I take offense at the " Trailer Queen " monicker. It's obvious my car is a pro street. Trailer queen refers to all show and no go. Taz goes. I will do something about the shroud. I wonder how many replying here have shoehorned a RB into a A body? That is the category I posted this thread in. I...

Evans coolant. Ill check into that. I really hate to cut holes into the shroud. It seems to be doing the same thing it was before the radiator change. I had a radiator out of a international truck, big and ugly. I hate to wrap the headers, But I think that's where the problem lies. I bought...

I tend to agree about the plate. It needs more holes I think. A friend made it, and I like the look, but if that's the problem...

    Still overheating

There is no spring in the bottom hose. I don't think 220 is overheating but it is hotter than I'd like it to be. I apoligize for my vagueness. I may have been under the influence when I started this thread.:tongue3:

Temp 210, 220. Autometer w/ warning light. Rat rod, ease up. We are all friends here. :wack:

Oh yeah, Shrourd is very cool. Two fans mounted with holes cut for the fans. They come on at 180. Seems to be after a 5 mi run.

    Still overheating

All very good questions. New radiator cap, 50/50 mix. 190 thermostat. Seemsto run hot after hot rodding. If i drove it normally it wouldn't get hot. If I've missed anything,,,,

    Surging

Rebuilt carb, put filter on, new fuel pump, new fuel pressure guage. Turned out to be a plug wire. I love it! :burnout:

    Surging

This is the set up. 1971 440hp balanced, bluprinted, and gas ported. Elgin cam with hp specs. Torker II intake with a Mighty Demon 850. Mallory ignition, and a Unilight distributor. Notice no fuel filter. I'm ordering one today. I know, I'm a dumb@#$ for running without one. That may be the...

    Surging

The Duster started surging in the last couple of days. Thinking it is the carb. Just not running right. I hope you understand what I mean by surging. Don't think it is the fuel pump ( Holley blue). Could be bad gas. I'm thinking maybe the carb ( Mighty Demon 850). Trash in the carb? Where should...

    Mancini transmission

I just looked at the website. They are just listing TCI transmissions. I guess the quit rebuilding them. Ron Mancini did mine years ago.

Gas porting pistons at top ring?

My 440 has got gas ported pistons. No complaints here! :burnout:

    440 needs to be Cool

Might check the radiator cap. Had that once. I have a radiator from a international truck in my Duster. Just fits between the frame rails. Had a larger electric fan off some Buick or something. It was cracked in the case, but worked good. Upgraded to a Jegs one that was smaller and not cracked...

    Alternator

I had to hook it up directly to the battery, then through a switch on the shifter. Zip tied all the wires, and covered them with that plastic loom cover. Looks very clean, and works now. Never goes over 14.5 volts. Thank you all very much for walking me through this problem. :prayer::prayer:

    Alternator

I have the power supply to the ign wired to the switch on the shifter. It is hot only when the car is running. That would be very easy to splice into. Short wires to the alt. would look a lot cleaner.

A switched hot is all i need? Hooked to a hot constant 12 volt when the key is on, right? :banghead:

The wiring was eat up from rats after sitting in a field for 8 years. When I bought the car it had been a hot rod many times. It had been spliced, panted over, and southern engineered many times. Then rats lived in it for 8 years. The guy who put it back together is a chevy guy, and he wired it...

I found a 11.5 that comes on with the key on the firewall near the bulkhead connector. It's on the four pronged connector ( ballast connector ?). Is that what we want?

    Alternator

I have the square back alt, the correct voltage regulator, and a ballast resistor. The instructions say to hook the one field to a ballast resister that leads to the + side of the coil. I have a Mallory Hyfire VIA microprocessor controlled ignition system going to a Accel Super coil, then to a...

Square back with the voltagr reg in the diagrahm. I have a square back I burned up years ago (cant remember how) in my shed I'll take for a core. Still kinda scared, but what's life without adventure.

Well, Ill return it tomorrow if thats the case. Geez, I'll never get all of this.

The alt has the funny clip. One field has the prong the other has the clip (instead of another prong). That is not the voltage reg I have. Has the triangle with two prongs.

    Alternator

I have no voltage regulator on the Duster. I guess the one I had was a built in V.R.. The one I'm using needs one. I bought one today and will try to do it tomorrow. The alt I'm using hasn't got a plug on the field. Has a funny clip. Any ideas about this?

It's not charging. Can I just splice into it before it goes in the loom? After 8 years in a field the wire I was using is lost
