    Advice on buying junkyard engines?

I have bought 3 5.9 engines with 135k to 170k miles on them. Bearings, rings and bores look brand new. Cam bearings are always bad. New cam and bearings, intake. Run them Hard! zero problems.

    904 help, won't move

Remember, this a brand new converter so it is empty. I pulled the valve body and blew air in the feed port to the converter and got zero fluid from the return port. I pulled apart the body, found the shuttle for the port to the converter jammed. I think the stop arm had bent out and allowed the...

    904 help, won't move

I put a TF2 kit in the transmission worked great for awhile, started not wanting to move, fluid very high on dipstick. Tried new converter, no debris in pan. Hot, idling in neutral for 20 minutes, still overfull sprays fluid from cooling line.

    904 help, won't move

According to the manual fluid change with torque converter is 8.5 quarts. Added to 8 quarts, fluid level is 1/2 way up the dipstick tube. Pump sprays fluid out of the cooler line at the radiator. Drops into gear both drive and reverse with a light thump, but won't move unless revved up quite a...

    904 help, won't move

That's what I believe too, when there was more fluid in it, the level was 1/2 way up the dipstick. But there is enough pressure to make a hell of mess when the fitting on the radiator came loose. It's like the convertor isn't filling up. Same issue with old convertor as well

    904 help, won't move

Thanks for the replies. I have tried moving the wheels in neutral, spin easily. Gauging the test ports is in the plan, just need to get the equipment together. The truck will move a little when revved high (3 to 4K). The fluid level shows high even though I'm actually still a quart low from what...

    904 help, won't move

My son and I are putting together an 84 D150, 5.9 magnum, original lockup 904 with shift kit. Drove great 1st few test runs. Now it engages drive and reverse but won't move unless revved up. Put in a new torque converter, no debris in pan. It blew the pressure fitting at the radiator, pump is...

    Anyone use this Converter?

Call Andre at Edge Racing Converters. He built a converter for my Dart 4 years ago, I wasn't quite happy with the stall, he adjusted it for me with no cost but shipping. He is building a lock up for my truck right now, under $600 with a week turn around. Great guy.

    Lost Kickdown

Just to follow up on this. After replacing the throttle valve governor and lever the kickdown works again. Moral of the story, if you install a TF2 shift kit, do Not grind down the governor stem per instruction. It becomes too short to get good downshift.

    Lost Kickdown

Thanks. After looking at the valve body it is the bent tab part of the throttle valve lever that the limit screw hits. Got new lever coming from A and A. Going to put in a new governor kit from Sonnax too. The old one is ground to 7/32". TF2 kit says 9/32", going to leave it unground this time

    Lost Kickdown

Pulled the pan to check the valve body. Found some metal flakes which are new, never had any before, but what is more concerning is the metal piece. Any ideas what it is?

    Lost Kickdown

I'm pretty sure it is something with the valve body, I just don't know what. I am using the kickdown lever, spring, cable, bracket. It was working until I changed the 1-2 shift spring. It is a Cope modified valve body and I checked the stem of the TV valve was ground down on the end like a TF2...

    Lost Kickdown

Thanks, I have the Bouchillon cable kit. I have had the mechanical, Lokar, now BPE. For my setup BPE has been the best. I did have full throttle kickdown until I changed the spring, without changing the linkage the kickdown changed. Now if I shorten the travel enough to get kickdown, I only get...

    Lost Kickdown

I have a 72 Dart with 5.9 magnum and 904 transmission. It has a Cope valve body a few years old that has part throttle kickdown on it. I have never been able to get the part throttle to work but the full throttle was working with a BPE setup. I changed the 1-2 shift speed spring to raise the 2nd...

    Magnum Head Valve Spring Compressor

Yes, exactly that one. I am currently upgrading to Hughes springs and retainer system. They have a damper inside the springs and it is time consuming but does work fairly well with a worm gear hose clamp to keep the arms in the spring.

    Magnum Head Valve Spring Compressor

The tool fits on standard magnum heads with stock springs. Upgraded springs like Hughes won't fit unless you grind the neck down to about 1/2 the width. The included bolt is too soft and ends up destroying the threads. Lots of messing around. It is easier to use the 2 jaw style with the handle...

Are all air-gap intakes the same height?

you guys are making this way harder than it is. A thread called Getting the intake on intake manifolds, 69Cuda440 listed all the heights of the manifolds. As I stated earlier I had a 340 manifold with a 1" spacer, now with an airgap and no spacer I gained a 1/2" of clearance so I know his...

According to another thread, 5.35". I had a 1970 340 intake with a 1" spacer and now have a crosswind air gap with no spacer and it is about .5" shorter so I would say the numbers are pretty close
