Help with identifying various holes on '71 340

Hi! I´m back to working on my dads old car again, its been sitting for a couple of years (got kids, house etc, you know the drill :)) Anyway, the car is a 1968 Dodge Dart GT, imported to Sweden and it´s been sitting in my dads garage since about '91, when he removed the original engine (273)...

Whats needed to fit roller cam into my 1971 340?

Hey! This is not really due anytime soon, but I will hopefully complete my Dodge Dart 1968 with an 1971 340 engine this winter (had a new child so my time-frame got seriously kicked to the curbs :D) Anyway, this is the high comp engine (10.5:1 if I remember correctly), with 2.02" in/1.88"...

Help with some wiring for 1968 Dodge Dart

Well, the problem is that I live in Sweden, so there arent really a great deal of american cars at our parts yards, at least nowhere near where I live. Believe me, I have looked ;) No dimmer switch on the floor, I looked and theres no switch, no hole in the mat, no screw holes in the floor...

Help with some wiring for 1968 Dodge Dart

Hi, Im currently working on my cars wiring, preparing to drop the engine in with new alternator, distributor, electric SPAL fan etc, and also checking through what works in the car. So far I have bought a relay that seem to fit for the headlights (probably got installed by dealer when imported...

    Fit TRW

Hi, I´ve been trying to get the power steering pump from my 1968 Dart to fit to my 1971 340, and I´m having a bit of trouble.. I have what appears to be an TRW pump, and from what I have found it doesnt seem that there has ben made any brackets for the TRW pumps for the later LA engines. So, I...

Mopar Performane valve cover twist on grommet and adapter

So no one have any idea on how to solve this? I dont want to punch holes in the covers, guess I´ll have to see if I can get the holes machined and use bigger gaskets..

Mopar Performane valve cover twist on grommet and adapter

Hey, I just got my Mopar Performance valve covers for my 340, and now I´m looking for a grommet for the PCV valve and a adapter for the breather that fits in the twist on holes for the oil cap. I dont want to drill holes in the covers when there already are two holes that I should be able to...

How much does carb spacer profile matter?

Yeah, so, right after I looked through my post after posting for errors, it hit me that the Street Demon had a pretty square profile underneath... So I turned the spacer around and it fit perfect, matching up right for both the carb and the intake :D Sometimes you just need a new angle to look...

How much does carb spacer profile matter?

Hey, Im currently rebuilding a 1971 340 thats going into my 1968 Dodge Dart GT. The engine has been sitting in a garage since 1981 and was missing A LOT of parts, like carb, distributor, one exhaust manifold, both crankshaft and water pump pulleys, brackets for both power steering and...

8 3/4" rear axle, different vent positions?

Hi, I´m currently restoring my 1968 Dodge Dart GT, with a new engine and transmission (273 -> ´71 340 and 904 -> 727), and I am also going to change the original 7 1/4" rear axle to a 8 3/4" from a 1967 Valiant. It had a 273 Commando, and should be the original axle for it as far as I know...

stance pictures with espo spring stock and +1

I may be wrong here, but isnt it better to always go with +2" if you want a little rake, or not sure just how much rake you want? You can always buy -1"/-2" lowering blocks, or something in between, pretty cheap, but if you want it higher, you´re boned.

What do I need to buy for my 727 swap?

Yeah, the problem is, I dont have anything from the 71 except whats shown in the pictures nothing at all on the 727). But I found the lower rod at Classic Industries (link) and also the Gearshift Control Torque Bracket (link), so I should be fine then :) Yeah, I tried to insert it the same...

What do I need to buy for my 727 swap?

Hey, as you may know from previous posts, I´m currently working on a 1968 Dart GT. The car had a 273 engine with a 904 tranny, but when my dads 1967 Valiant engine broke, he took the engine and tranny from the Dart. Now, I´m gonna install a 340 and a 727 from a 1971 Barracuda. The Dart has a...

Engine cam break-in - What should I do with my 340?

Great info 70aarcuda, thanks! I talked to my dad, his caprice have a 400 smallblock, so I will probably mount the carb to that engine first and tune it somewhat, so I at least know its working. But I haven´t really decided yet, the car havent moved since 1991 so I dont know if the fuel lines...

Engine cam break-in - What should I do with my 340?

Yeah, I will probably use a Davis Unified Ignition distributor to make re-wiring the car easier. I will use a mechanical pump, but I will make sure the carb has fuel (thinking of going with the Street Demon 625 CFM, and I think that one has pretty big fuel bowls). Thanks for the links, I was...

Engine cam break-in - What should I do with my 340?

Nope, the carb and distributor have been lost somewhere in the 34 years its been since it got taken out of the Barracuda it was originally in :D It´s been gathering dust in a garage since then, I got the engine as a rent settlement (well, my dad got it) so we just got it as it stood.

Engine cam break-in - What should I do with my 340?

Yeah, I guess the timing can be setup good enough to break in, but it would be bad if the engine would run lean for 30 mins with a new cam... Already thought about priming, I will buy a Mopar Performance Oil Pump Priming Shaft, but thanks for mentioning it :)

Engine cam break-in - What should I do with my 340?

Hey, as some of you may know, Im restoring a 1968 Dodge Dart GT. The car will get a 1971 340 in it, and I took the engine apart to inspect it (it hasnt been started since 1981...). The inside looks good (I think the piston ridge was less than 0.001"), but I want to treat it to some new...

Which driveshaft should I use for my Dart?

Hey. I have a 1968 Dodge Dart GT that I´m gonna install a 1971 340 with a 727, and a new rear axle. I have two cars for parts, one is the Dart, the other is a 1967 Plymouth Valiant. So I have two different driveshafts available and I may be able to use one of them, and if not I need to shorten...

What parts should I buy for my engine?

I just checked the engine a little more, and noticed the piston heads are a little worn and probably need to be replaced. The Mancini Racing engine rebuild kits posted earlier (http://www.manciniracing.com/enrebkit.html) have a C package with cast pistons, are they ok to use? Or should I...

What parts should I buy for my engine?

Alright, so, I´ve looked around a bit on the Street Demon, and for me as a beginner it sounds easy enough to work on, and seem to have some interesting features (such as the Aerospace Composite fuel bowl for lower gas temp). So, the options for carbs are now either the Edelbrock 1406, Holley...

What parts should I buy for my engine?

Sure, pics on the bottom of the post :) Alright, Edelbrock sounds easier for me to start with :) 1qwikScamp recommended a 1405, but that one doesnt seem to have an electric choke, but the Edelbrock 1406 does. A good choice for a beginner for this engine with the cam Im thinking of (Summit...

What parts should I buy for my engine?

Well, no particular reason except the stock one doesnt seem to be 100%, and when I searched for a replacement I found the high flow and just thought "why not?". :) But if a stock/OEM replacement is fine to use I could go with GMB OE Replacement Water Pumps 120-1070, that´ll save me $57. Should...

What parts should I buy for my engine?

Well, I dont have any carb of my liking since I havent owned a car with a carb before :P So, anything that fits the car, have a nice feeling to it when driving and isnt too hard to learn (because I want to learn to adjust my own carb) is an option. Yes, we will do new wiring on the car. A...

What parts should I buy for my engine?

Hello, I want to start building my engine now that I took apart a while back. It´s an 1971 340, that hasnt run since 1981. The engine is pretty good looking inside, but I still have to replace gaskets, bearings etc, and since I have it apart Im thinking I could also tune it a little. Also, I´m...

Help with shopping list for my Dart '68

Hey, Not sure if this is the right place for this post, but I´ll try it :icon_smi: I´ve got a 1968 Dodge Dart GT that I created a post about a while back, and also I made a post about engine identification on the engine that I´m gonna put in. Help with identifying engine

Getting ready to order some parts now (Mancini seems to have some great gasket kits, thanks for the tip!), but I´m a little unsure about what to do with the carb.. Help with identifying engine

Hey again, quick update on the engine. I checked the intake valves, and they were indeed 2.02". That would mean that the heads are the original '71 340 heads, and not 360 as stated by the previous owner? krazykuda, I will get back to you tomorrow about the head gaskets thickness, forgot all...
