Don't recall the thread about the title above or if the answer was found, but I recently came across why some fastback Barracuda's had carpeting in that area and it was from option code A86.

So watching a movie called of all things "The Enforcer" with Antonio Banderas who is a mob enforcer and goes by the name Cuda. The car he drives is a '67 Barracuda. Not a bad flick.
