Mechanical or Electric Pump? 380 Stroker

Pops here....glad to see you asked for advice here son! Even though you'll only race it occasionally, it will be in 95* heat (think Mopar Nats last year) and fuel under the hood is getting a tad warm. You'll only run it lean once so I think electric is good insurance.

Priming a 340 that's been dynoed a few months ago

Good advice guys, thanks. Yes I admit to being a touch paranoid with this $build$ and didn't want to touch timing (pull distributor and gear) from where it was set for dyno pulls....unless we had to. Just thought maybe spinning the crank was viable but I agree with above comments. While the pan...

Priming a 340 that's been dynoed a few months ago

After doing a search on engine priming and seeing the tried and true methods, I have a question about an alternative way to prime. Firstly, our 340 was assembled and dynoed 3 months ago. Since then we've had it on a stand and recently installed a Kevco pan and pickup. It stayed upside down on...

Kevco pickup tube bracket - attachment

Hey Ontario! Thanks, that would likely prevent loosening through vibration and I'm assuming Red Loctite would seal the threads as a pipe sealant would? The best part is we could trim off the bracket and not disturb the main stud. I like that.

    Good point, thank you.

Kevco pickup tube bracket - attachment

I think we've got it. With approx. 3 threads showing above the main stud nut, I'm thinking of a short sleeve internally threaded and screwed onto the 3 threads of the stud. Then enlarge the hole on the pickup bracket to fit over the sleeve followed by a short bolt on top of the sleeve to hold...

Kevco pickup tube bracket - attachment

Kevco said that the bracket was too soft to mount under the nut. They warned that the pickup bracket should be used to prevent loosening from vibration. (although the stock pickup isn't braced) Engine is completely assembled as it came from the builder and we hesitate un-torqueing a main bolt.

Kevco pickup tube bracket - attachment

Just got our Kevco M-301 pan and matching pickup...nice pieces. The support bracket on the pickup is a problem. Our 340 mains have studs with tall nuts instead of stock type bolts. The ends of the studs have a hex shaped hole for turning into the block during assembly. There isn't enough...

69 Valiant with Flaming river box, too short.. Help

 Thanks to all of you who advised us on this steering column issue! My son successfully (and easily) lengthened the steering column using technique above and it worked perfectly...even the steering wheel is centered now. Again, thank you Sedanman, 72blu and others for your...

69 Valiant with Flaming river box, too short.. Help

Good info, thanks guys. The old box was stock manual and the original build sheet says it was manual steering from the factory. The previous owner changed the shift collar below the steering wheel (or the entire column?) as the original column shifter was removed for a floor shifter. When we...

69 Valiant with Flaming river box, too short.. Help

Thanks Sedanman! I'll give that a try and will update this thread when accomplished...in a few days.

69 Valiant with Flaming river box, too short.. Help

Thanks 72bluNblu. When you say "just slide it" I'm assuming it requires some force to move it? We tried to pull it (the shaft with the coupler on it) toward the s/box but it didn't budge. If so, is it acceptable to clamp something to it and give it a few good blows with a hammer without...

69 Valiant with Flaming river box, too short.. Help

More additional info. Just referred to an old Chilton manual, "Steering Wheel Removal" 63-69. It states: CAUTION: On models equipped with a collapsible steering column, never hammer or bear down hard on the wheel during removal or installation. Either of these may cause the column to collapse...

69 Valiant with Flaming river box, too short.. Help

Let me chime in son... additional info...the original column shift collar was replaced with one from a floor shift model. IE. the collar doesn't have the "ears" that the column shifter attaches to. If the previous owner did this collar swap incorrectly, could that result in the steering column...

Which Kevco pan as Birthday gift?

Thank you gentlemen! That's some good advice from experienced people...and that's what I hoped for. Mike from MRL thanks for chiming in. I saw one of your website descriptions of a recent build where you mentioned the difference a certain oil pan made to the final numbers. I'm assuming that was...

Which Kevco pan as Birthday gift?

First post here in a while but need some advice. Hoping my son doesn't read this! We have a great little 340 stroked 380 ready to drop in. Had to dyno it with a stock pan due to time constraints on the builders end. No windage tray or baffles. Don't want to drop the engine in with a stock pan...

    The Little 340 that could

Nice build 66Dartdriver! Your going to be a very happy guy when you crank it up that first time. Glad to see the Proform 750 on it. My son and I just saw an increase of exactly 10hp with that carb over two different 750 Holleys. It was dyno'd right out of the box! BTW, what oil pan is that...

    69 Valiant caster adjustment

As the OP's Dad, I'd just like to say thanks to all who have taken the time to "steer" my son in the right direction...lol. He's new to A-bodies but is following in my footsteps (70 340 Duster, raced @ Dragway Park from 75-82) and I'm thrilled to get back into it with him. As soon as he moves...
