    Early 70's A'904 Torqueflite downshift

Hey fishy68, thanks for that info, I am now back driving this Dart after more than 20 years sitting in the garage and I am enjoying it a lot. I really don't remember if this transgo starter shift kit had instructions to grind the TV tip shorter, I recall doing that when I installed the Superior...

    Early 70's A'904 Torqueflite downshift

Just to give an update for some who might be interested, I was concerned about the low rpm Wide Open Throttle 1-2 upshift on my A-904/318 DART torqueflite, and in fact, the throttle valve rod was not properly adjusted... mostly due to a misadjustment in the gas cable, it was not pulling the TV...

    Early 70's A'904 Torqueflite downshift

Thanks! I am glad to hear that. In fact I was checking the TV linkage adjustment again and found out the gas cable from the carburetor and gas pedal was loose a bit, it was not pulling the carb open all the way and thus not pushing the TV rod all it should at WOT. Additionally, I could adjust...

    Early 70's A'904 Torqueflite downshift

Thanks for your reply! I do not think anything is wrong with the valve body, the transmission works just like it was when I bought the car 37 years ago. It is just that at that time I was not looking at rpm much and the car was as fast as now. The new governor valve may be the solution to raise...

    Early 70's A'904 Torqueflite downshift

I checked that today, it will not allow much. At idle the linkage at the transmission is all the way back and at wot there is not much further it could move. Could it be an issue with the governor pressure valve? At what rpm is a stock torqueflite supposed to upshift from 1stvto 2nd when in...

    Early 70's A'904 Torqueflite downshift

You may be right, seems low. I will try to find specs for the shift points and what could be causing it... Thanks.

    Early 70's A'904 Torqueflite downshift

At Wide open throttle in drive, it will hold till 2,500 rpm max to shift into 2nd, then in 2nd gear at wot it will hold till 3,000 rpm then shift to 3rd.

    Early 70's A'904 Torqueflite downshift

Thx, that's what I thought. Bought this car when I was 18yo and this 76 Dart was 6 yo... and drove it a bit, always worked like that, stays in 2nd in low speed unless I stop or manually downshift.. Now I put it back on the road and it just seems it should downshift to 1st but maybe that feature...

    Early 70's A'904 Torqueflite downshift

Hi, I have a 76 Dart with stock 318/A-904 all assembled in Brazil so I am not sure if the transmission could be an earlier model in USA. My question is, these TFs had 2-1 downshift? When in DRIVE, my TF will take off in 1st gear always but will upshift 1-2 at WOT at 2,500 rpm (max) and will NOT...

Suspension and frame work, cracked LCA, advice welcome

In the USA these new control arms are not way too expensive so they probably are the best way to go (they even allow more positive caster) but in that pic it seems the front suspension height is way too low so the uca is way up in a position the seal might open. Is that the actual car height as...

Suspension and frame work, cracked LCA, advice welcome

Yes they do, I only saw those Aussy LCAs after making mine but I think that is the way Chrysler should have made them in the first place. If you look at the very first picture I posted in this thread you see a difference in thickness on the stamped plate where the crack began (probably due to...

Suspension and frame work, cracked LCA, advice welcome

Hey, thanks for your quote. That front grill was made by Chrysler in Brazil only (as far as I know) for the chargers from 1973 till 1978 and for the gran sedans and gran coupes from 1976 till 1978 with a different grill design and minor changes... Now, I must say they are pretty rare here but...

Suspension and frame work, cracked LCA, advice welcome

Lower Control Arms reinforcement plates make these mopar LCAs much stronger than stock. I think it is one must do job when you have the front suspension serviced. I made the stiffening plates myself out of a 2.5 mm thick steel plate, after making a prototype out of cardboard. The one detail in...

Upper control arm bushing extra part?

Sorry forgot the exchange rate, US$ 46.00 for 10'. Ordinary steel pipe metric.

OEM Upper Control Arm Bushing and Positive Caster

Only the front bushings on the UCAs became loose, as I show in the video. The rear bushings were fine (they had the collars pressed on them). I replaced only the front bushings adding the metal collar to lock them in place. Both UCAs had to be stretched a bit, distance between front and rear...

OEM Upper Control Arm Bushing and Positive Caster

Finished replacing the loose bushings on both UCAs, used new moog rubber and added the collar/retainer, I managed to make out from a standard size pipe I found. They fit very tight, I think the metal pipe I found is the exact same size as the original metal collars I have on the rear UCA...

Upper control arm bushing extra part?

I found a standard pipe size, spent $200.00 for 10', pressed on the new moog bushings really good and tight, problem solved.

OEM Upper Control Arm Bushing and Positive Caster

After doing some measurements, I believe the UCA ends are off about 0.16", the measurement from the front and rear bushings is short and I did not notice that when I assembled them, because in the process of assembling them on the mounts I had to pull them open a bit in order to make them fit...

OEM Upper Control Arm Bushing and Positive Caster

I am having to re-do the upper control arms bushings on my Dodge Dart due to very premature failure of the brand new front bushings (60 miles or so), the front bushings became loose and the UCA running back and forth on the front bushings. I have oredered new bushings and I know most will say I...

Upper control arm bushing extra part?

When I replaced the bushings on my Dart's UCAs I noticed the collars/sleeves only on the rear bushings, which were still in good shape but the front bushings were both shot. I could not notice any significant difference in my manual press when pressing the front and rear new bushings on the UCAs...

Upper control arm bushing extra part?

That's ok, I am after a pipe that would fit right there here in Brazil, made a few phone calls but no luck so far, will stop at a shop and maybe a scrap yard, if I can't find one, I'll have to grind the inside of a water pipe to fit there, just some more hand made work, part of the fun of having...

Nice! That is what I need on the front UCA bushings. The rear got the collar and are ok. How did you get those collars, standard size pipe there in Australia?
