Flow Data from Intake Valve Relocation

Very interesting. Thank you for doing some experimenting and publishing results. What's the difference between this and installing a larger valve and offsetting the location by (half) the increase in diameter?

    Measuring boost back pressure

@subcom great post. As always your content is great. Thanks for this. Real information vs. pure speculation.

One for the rich small block guys.

I bet a hemi short block with forged pistons and aftermarket rods would hold up just fine for a long time with the right tune at 1500 hp

I mean, That's gonna be the same either way.

One for the rich small block guys.

I mean, with some reasonable upgrades you could take a stockish hemi to 1500 with a nice turbo setup. You wouldn't need to spend 10k.

    Are 340’s rare

Obviously lighter reciprocating components will help with how fast/responsive an engine is. Lots of other factors come to play that are also important. First and foremost, for an engine to rev up fast, against the weight of the vehicle, the engine needs to be powerful. Matched gearing and...

    Why stop at 150?

    Are 340’s rare

I don't think guys are stupid. But I do think a lot of guys are ignorant and/or stubborn and hanging onto old beliefs. There was once a time when I, too, believed a short stroke equates to a revver. I was ignorant. I saw a lot of not exotic builds proving the contrary and realized I was...

    Are 340’s rare

Sooooo much BS information here. The whole idea about short stroke engines being "rev happy" is straight bull****. That's a myth that's been completely debunked. An engines ability to rev has much more to do with cam timing, carefully matched valve train components, and head flow capabilities...

    Are 340’s rare

4.04-3.91=0.130 Maybe use a calculator next time

    Are 340’s rare

A 340 short block, equivalently built, would probably be a $500-1000 premium compared to a 318 or 360 based engine. The $2k is overblown. Ironically a 273 probably would cost more because of the specialty pistons required.

    Are 340’s rare

    Can you clarify this?
  13. Mean416

    Are 340’s rare

Look at a 318 piston side by side with a 340 piston, before you make a statement like "318 and 340 bore size difference isn't much" Besides the numbers matching guys out there, THE reason the 340 is and will always be king, is because of that "minor" extra 0.130" bore. It's much more than just...

    Are 340’s rare

Finding a nice serviceable core is becoming more rare. Plenty already bored out and needing sleeves. At that point might as well start looking for a race block.

    Wasn’t someone looking for a W2 intake.

Thanks, that's exactly the commentary I was looking for. Appreciate that. I have definitely seen some crazy looking W2 ports. Very large rectangular ports. It's actually pretty wild how much can be carved out of these. But that's not the realm I was interested in. Definitely cool, but way...

    Wasn’t someone looking for a W2 intake.

W2 setups are so freaking cool if you really think about it. The fact that Mopar stayed dedicated to supporting racers to that level even throughout the smog era is awesome. And how capable a W2 setup really is, is impressive too. What's the NA power capacity of these, ported to practical...

So what was the error again? Did you hit a curb or something?

    Figured id share my garbage..

If it were me, because I absolutely hate doing things like this over again, I'd replace the gears, since you're considering a new ratio anyway, and I'd throw in a new bearing kit. I'd take it to a shop that specializes or you know does a shitload of differential work and have them set it up...

    SBE Turbo magnum teardown

What gasket combo would hold up better?

Rope length for replacing valve springs.

Screwdriver could fall at an inopportune time. Sometimes the locks need a light rap on the retainers with a mallet to break loose. That could dislodge the screwdriver. I'll stick with air.

    SBE Turbo magnum teardown

Yeah it's probably close. Assuming his NA combo was around 400 at 17psi that's 800+ I'd think.

    SBE Turbo magnum teardown

I think it's pretty amazing. The only mod of significance was adding head studs and aftermarket head gaskets. If you watch his channel he's been consistently doing test and tunes with the truck for years. He launches pretty damn hard on a two step and a trans brake. The only real obvious wear...

    SBE Turbo magnum teardown

This is the Dakota with a stock bottom end magnum, that this guy's been hammering for years. He finally broke it at 17 psi and he was running low 10s. He did a teardown video. What a cool channel.

Rope length for replacing valve springs.

Dude. Go get a pancake air compressor for a $100 bucks at home Depot. Or look one up on Facebook marketplace for $50. It's so easy that way.

You sure the diff was properly set up? That's a bit of magic to me. One of the few things I tend to send to a shop that I trust.

So then the combo might have benefited from higher lifts?

found this video interesting.. 360 dyno testing.

Yeah I was thinking about that too. The cam was pretty small at that stage. But to gain nothing was surprising. Sure a set of ported J heads can be effective, but man that short side on the exhaust port is just awful. The Eddie's in stock form are definitely better there. I definitely wouldn't...
