What kind of power steering fluid should I be using? The staff at AutoZone couldn't tell me. I picked up a quart of yellow prestone.

Yeah, I found a place that will make one. It's twice the price of buying one from classic industries. I wanted to double check and see if there was a do it yourself route. I'll follow the advice and get it made at the shop. Better than a line potentially failing and better than waiting a month.

Ok, so classic industries is going to take a very long time to send the power steering pressure line. It is out of stock. Auto zone does not have one. This pressure line has a section on either end that is steel (photos above). Is there any reason I cannot replace this line with one that is...

The second red dot is the same power steering line. It was leaking at two spots; the crack in the rubber and at the hex nut.

Good news! I didn't drive it. (beyond the lap around the block). As far as why I though it would be ok to drive empty, I have no idea. I tend to learn things the hard way. Classic Industries was a great recommendation! Got the part for $30. Waiting for it to arrive. After I install that I have...

Its a 69 273 v8. Thanks for the pointers. I found the part on the auto zone website so I'll be picking it up tomorrow. In preparation I drained all of the power steering fluid. I drove the dart around the block a few times to see how hard it would be without power steering. As I was driving the...

Hello all, I have a power steering leak. The spots with the red dots are where the line is leaking from. I was hoping someone might know what I am looking at and the name of the part. I think it's the power steering fluid return line. What's a good website people use for mopar oem? I can't...

Ok, so it took a lot for me not to delete this thread and pretend this leak thing never happened. (I did delete a few choice, stupid things that I said) But, after reading through the manual, thinking about the situation and what people have said, I realized that in fact, I was pouring oil into...

Maybe the leak from the metal tube is a fitment issue and the rubber needs to be replaced? I had to go double check that I am not pouring in oil where the transmission fluid goes.

Used dye and found the leak. Looks like this part is attached to a pump and my power steering. The red dots are the two spots I saw droplets form and where the dye showed up. In the top photo you can see the dye where there is a crack in the rubber.

Just talked to a fellow at autozone. They don't have the oil dye but said I could use AC refrigerant dye in the oil. Said that it works just the same.

There is an unbelievable amount of oil and grease build up down there. An absolute mess, making it very hard to locate the leak. There is so much oil built up that I am actually concerned about the runoff. Any thoughts on using the oil dye and a UV light technique?

Ok, realized today that costco 87 is ethanol free. Solves that issue. There are no car washes around that have pressure washers that you can use. So I'll have to find another way to degrease the underside of the car. Thinking that I am going to buy some degreaser and get under there and do it by...

No, I am not sure at all. I noticed the transmission was struggling two weeks ago, it was dry. I filled it up and that is around the time the leak increased significantly. I have been checking the transmission feverishly since and it is still full. May still be a combination of the two? When I...

Going to replace the plugs and source some non-ethanol fuel. Put the car on a lift today to start looking for the leak. I think the leak is coming from around here. The car is a real mess of oil underneath. I need to get it to a pressure washer and search again. Figured I'd take a look in the...

Learning a monstrous amount. It has been fun. So the leak is pretty fast. I took it out for a quick drive to check the transmission after I topped it off. I see droplets actively falling. Gas is new, just filled it up with 87. I have no idea if it needs something higher than 87. Probably...

So I clearly have an oil leak. I'd like to fix it but am unsure where to start. I guess a good place to start is to locate the exact spot it is leaking from.

After it has some time to run, the voltage on the battery goes higher and the knocking goes away. Maybe my battery is bad and it isnt holding enough charge?

Hmm. I turned the car off and came back 15 minutes later. Turned the car on and then turned on the head lights. Started making knocking noises. They went away after 4 minutes running. Those noises were what it was doing before, when it would start to sputter and die.
