I need some information about tie rod end construction

My factory originals are back home with 60K very gentle miles on them. They look good in their neighborhood, especially with brandy new Energy dust boots.

I need some information about tie rod end construction

Okay, why not? The worst that can happen is that if they fail, and I'll have to pop them out and replace them with aftermarket. Thanks for pushing me off the fence. My nards were starting to hurt.

I need some information about tie rod end construction

Chineesium parts make me wretch. Are Moog parts still made in America? It's veritable crisis in auto parts these days. Don't get me started! I once returned a crank sensor 3 times. Finally got smart and ordered a Mopar brand. There's a whole school of thought that says if your OEM parts are...

I need some information about tie rod end construction

I scraped at mine with a dental pick -- it's definitely cold hard steel. In your image, the white part is plastic, right? Does it articulate there? Mine does. It moves 1st, then the bigger ball moves 2nd. Is that okay? That's what I need to know.

I looked at that. It's definitely steel. It's one piece, Integral with the stud.

I need some information about tie rod end construction

The left pic shows the stud, integral to a small ball at its base, swiveled outboard, and the right picture is swiveled inboard. Net travel at the top of the stud about 1/2". Now, understand all that is encased in the much larger ball that you can clearly see, and that of course, swivels to a...

I need some information about tie rod end construction

There looks to be a smaller socket nested inside a larger socket. See my original post. These are factory pieces.....not like the one in the picture above. I'll send a picture, yeah that's it, a picture!

I need to know if both are allowed to swivel.

I need some information about tie rod end construction

I'm getting into the weeds on the suspension of my '73 Dart. I removed the damaged boot from a factory tie rod end and began to look at it closely. I see that the stud has a ball on the end of it that articulates inside a socket. That socket, in turn, articulates inside of a larger socket. Am I...

Has anyone used Energy Suspension Poly dust boots?

I'll give it shot. Thanks! I decided to remove all of the steering stuff to restore it all. It will be a while before I can get to that point. I'd hate having detailed control arms and greasy steering components.

Has anyone used Energy Suspension Poly dust boots?

It was filmed in color since it aired in 1939. That is, the version with Judy Garland. That sure makes you really old. I think of you as a Mopar super hero. Just don't wear the tights. Lol.

Has anyone used Energy Suspension Poly dust boots?

No, I hadn't thought of that. I'll give it a try and let you know what results. Thanks for the tip. There's some really smart people on this forum, especially you!

Has anyone used Energy Suspension Poly dust boots?

Cool beans! Well, I was going to use them, but the stud spins while tightening the nut. I guess that means buying new tie rod ends.

Has anyone used Energy Suspension Poly dust boots?

Thanks, I bought those tie rod boots too, but haven't put 'em on yet. I guess I'll try them out and see what happens. Live and learn, right?

Has anyone used Energy Suspension Poly dust boots?

I installed an Energy Polyurethane dust boot on an upper ball joint and I'm not sure how the big end is retained. It looks like it just slips over the ball joint body, but it flexes and slides around as the uca travels up and down(exposing a little bit of the ball joint body). There are no...

Lower control arm shaft(some call it a pin) question

Wow, thanks! I was looking for that edit thing. Okay. I got to 110 ft-lbs and it started to spin again. I'm hoping that with the weight of the car on that poly bushing it will pinch it hard enough it will hold still.

Lower control arm shaft(some call it a pin) question

Hit send accidentally. Did this with no weight on the bushings.

Lower control arm shaft(some call it a pin) question

72bluNblu, your lock washer method seems to work. I haven't put the final torque on it yet, but I have it really right now....no spinning. Did this with no weight o

    Torsion bar clocking

Hi Andy, I'm doing the same thing you are. I've got a '73 Dart. 72blu has got this pegged. Through the LCA's range of travel there is/was only one place, and one place only, where the hex socket will line up with the hex on the T bar, and that is up just bit from where it hangs near the bottom...

Lower control arm shaft(some call it a pin) question

I tried that. It spins with the impact, too.

Lower control arm shaft(some call it a pin) question

Interesting. So, tighten the nut but not all the way to spec, because the car has to be on the ground for that, right? That solution will be at the top of the list. I'm anxious to see what others say. Doug, for some reason your reply didn't post to this thread. Can you re-try?

Lower control arm shaft(some call it a pin) question

1973 Dart here. Do you need to have the full weight of the car on the LCA bushing to tighten the shaft nut to spec? I'm using Energy Suspension polyurethane bushings. I greased them according to instructions. I just want to get it snug but with the car currently in the air the nut reaches a...

That's very beautiful! Is that the original paint and vinyl top? What does the emblem say on the C-pillar? I'm hoping my restoration turns out like that.

Ant, how does one know if his car is a custom vs. any other of the trim lines? I want to say all of these cars shown are gorgeous in there own right. I never knew how beautiful a crew cab A body could be.
