    Stripping methods?

Quick update: I'm leaning towards media blasting. I'm supposed to talk to the business owner this week. @ESP47 I didn't even know what trunk extensions were until just now, lol. Thanks!

    Stripping methods?

Will the soda remove body filler or is it too soft? I know it has filler in the 1/4s but who knows what's under the rest of that primer.

    Stripping methods?

I'm actually looking into a dry ice blaster in Knoxville. I will report when I hear back. I think dipping is out of the question. 4-5 grand to strip a 72 Duster is a bit rich for me and there is no one local. If it had the broadcast sheet, was more original, or had sentimental value I would...

    Stripping methods?

Let's talk media blasting. Is soda the way to go? Something else? What about the leftover media that I keep hearing is a mess? What about dustless blasting? If I'm not mistaken the water contains the media so it still leaves residue. Since I'm not doing the bodywork, I assume the bare metal...

    Stripping methods?

I looked at that as well but I read that the car should be e coated afterwards. That sounds expensive.

    Stripping methods?

I am finishing disassembly soon and will be approaching the 2nd step in my first restoration: dropping it off at a body shop. I have the skills, time, and most of the tools to do everything myself, except the body. Vehicle: all numbers matching 72 Duster 340, fender tag, no broadcast sheet, TX9...

    Headliner

Ditto. 72 Duster with the hard board headliner. I'm trying to decide if this is something I want to tackle myself or farm out. The one YouTube video I watched made the new repo one seem like a total pain, with lots of trimming and modification necessary (I forgot the brand). I do not have the...

Rebuild or Replace 850 TQ for a Mild 340?

:thankyou: Thank you, my friends! I ordered a kit with all the bells and whistles from Mike's Carburetor Parts. This should be fun! For years I was a dealership tech well AFTER carbs were phased out so I've never rebuilt one. Unless you count the motorcycle carb I tried to rebuild 20 years ago...

Rebuild or Replace 850 TQ for a Mild 340?

I didn't know that. Good info. @rumblefish360 I'll order the rebuild kit. Any brand better than others?

Rebuild or Replace 850 TQ for a Mild 340?

A previous owner put a 9009S Thermoquad on my 72 Duster 340. It has sat for years and has not run since I bought. I discovered yesterday that it has the "850" cfm TQ carb, date coded 1975. My question is this; should I rebuild/reuse this carb or get a reman smaller one, like how it came...

Hose from Tank to Line 72

That is most likely what I will do before I replace the line this winter during the resto. Unfortunately my lift is currently occupied and it's a b---- to get leverage while laying on the ground. I just figured if Chrysler had some odd reason for making it this way from the factory I wouldn't...

Hose from Tank to Line 72

I was apparently unclear in my initial post. I was using my phone and that was my fault. The topic is the rubber hose that connects the steel fuel line to the fuel tank sending unit on a 1972 Duster 340. I purchased this vehicle recently and determined that it would not start due to fuel not...

Hose from Tank to Line 72

Obviously someone changed some stuff back here. It's not getting fuel, and this doesn't look right. There is no vapor port in the tank or sending unit, and I know that isn't correct because turning it over creates a huge vacuum in the tank unless the fuel cap is off. Is the end of the fuel line...

    Crack surrounding door striker

Good to know. I'm not sure if the quarters will need to be full replaced at this point but will check it out when the time comes this winter. @str12-340 thanks, I will check it out! What are the odds mine, a 72 built in Oct 71, has a reinforced striker already? It's not cracked, but I have...

    Crack surrounding door striker

By "still good" I mean there is no crack to weld. How does one add a stiffener plate behind it without tearing everything apart? Is it accessible from the inside? Just trying to make sure I don't have an issue after the resto.

    Hood Insulation OEM Installation

Did all Duster hoods have the holes for attaching the hood insulator pad retaining clips or just those that had it from the factory? Car in question is a 72 340. Thanks in advance!

    Crack surrounding door striker

Sorry to resurrect an old post, but what if your door jambs are still good? I'm doing a complete resto with someone else handling the body work. If the doors are aligned properly upon reassembly am I in the clear?

    Looking for an Assembly Manual

@72bluNblu that's something I hadn't seen. Thanks! @Professor Fate. Faxon. Got it. I will read your review @67Dart273 Thanks again!

A25 interior group code not on fender tag

To answer my own question, MANY options were not coded on the FT. By coincidence, there is a well documented original survivor 72 Duster 340, also black, that has the exact same scheduled production date and most of the same options as mine. But unlike mine, it has an original broadcast sheet...

    Looking for an Assembly Manual

What is the best, most detailed, assembly manual for the 72 Duster. I have both of the 72 Plymouth Chassis and Body service manuals and I'm not impressed. I also have a Haynes manual for general reference. I'm trying to go back to stock and some things are missing from my car. For example, the...

A25 interior group code not on fender tag

The speaker switch looks factory; unknown if it was original. Definitely not the standard steering wheel. I think this is what is referred to as the deluxe steering wheel according to the Hamtramck Registry.

A25 interior group code not on fender tag

I just bought a numbers matching 72 Duster 340. The list of options is included below, which is a fair amount. This car still has it's original engine, trans, and radiator core support, along with an original appearing thermoquad and rv2 compressor with all factory appearing AC components...

LMAO. I got that! You know technically I'm a Lowper aka a Troll (someone who lives under the bridge). I was born and raised in Detroit by the Dearborn border. I loved fishing in the UP.

    I'm back

Thanks! I actually drove over 4 hours last week to check out a demon that didn't really do it for me for their asking price. My dream car? I want my super bee back lol. I have a thing for fc7 cars, but I also have a thing about keeping the original color and year-correct options including...

    I'm back

You're right! Nice dusters! That's what I'm looking for. Something I can drive and fix up at the same time. I live right off the main parkway heading into pigeon forge and see all these classics taunting me every day :p
