    318 with a new 4” crankshaft.

This project went sideways on me. I had just planned to put heads, intake manifold and a cam and found out. I had a hairline crack in block after all my pieces were together engine ran. and this was on a 318. I ended up having to take a block I bought for $100 to the Machine Shop and have it...

    318 with a new 4” crankshaft.

Its a eagle forged 2 piece crankshaft, New rods and pistons. I already have dual plane. The motor was running but had a crack in water passage to the head bolt. Previous owner sealed it up with silicone and very loose torque. I scrapped it and got a new block. I went .040 over and have to get...

    318 with a new 4” crankshaft.

After previous posts here I am going to get a new 4” stroke eagle crankshaft new pistons and rods to match. What else should I look out for. Will the new crankshaft require balancing. Im going with the .040 over pistons to get 11:1 compression to make it a 392. Any advice will be appreciated...

318 with 3.97 cylinder bore after clean up

I just honed out cylinders starting at 3.910. After cleaning and hone its now at 3.917 in worst cylinder. Piston measures 3.910 where it says to measure it.

318 with 3.97 cylinder bore after clean up

3.910 is what is measured piston according to KB.

318 with 3.97 cylinder bore after clean up

3.8 3.700 above compression ring.piston seems to ride on rings. Very little material to touch walls. Just coated part of piston is closest to wall. I believe these pistons expand to fit. Stock piston is 3.850 I believe

318 with 3.97 cylinder bore after clean up

Has anyone known someone who has run a motor like that and how did it do?

318 with 3.97 cylinder bore after clean up

No only two cylinders Are that much over? The rest are .003 and walls are straight as I can tell

318 with 3.97 cylinder bore after clean up

So .0025 wall clearance =.005 total over?

318 with 3.97 cylinder bore after clean up

How do you think this will run. 6 cylinders measure .003-005 over. I got new std pistons -6cc chambers. KB hyper pistons. Lets hears what ya’ll think.

    Hone grit for moly rings

I’m just deglazing the cylinders. I am now up to 3.913 The piston rings I got in the re-ring kit or Molly ring. I know they require a finer finish. I just don’t know which stone to use for the final hone

    Hone grit for moly rings

My last stone was 220. Is that OK to then go to the Scotch pad?

    Hone grit for moly rings

I am getting a new set of rings and the top ring will be a Molly coated rain. What grit should I hold the cylinder with? It says use a medium but the stones don’t come in medium I saw 150 180. 220. This will be on the loose side, not on the tight specifications.

    Is this good enough

I’m measuring 1” down and about 3” , down, up down left right. Anywhere in stroke as well.

    Thanks!!!

    Is this good enough

Deglazing and with a 3.910 std bore they all cylinders are under 3.913 is the largset measurement I can get but I got this ring you can see in picture. Do I need to keep going. This is not a race motor

    Differences in 318 block.

3.912 is the largest measurement I can find measuring in the ring that is seen.

    Differences in 318 block.

3.910 is the what I set my digital caliper to. Then use my telescoping gauge 1” down I get 3.910.

    Differences in 318 block.

3.910 looked into that. About 2300 on that. Will have to wait on that great suggestion.

    Differences in 318 block.

3:912 after deglaze. I had to go recheck how I was measuring. I am using a inside bore diameter gauge. After deglaze i am reallly now looking at the wear ring at top of stoke. 3.916.

    Differences in 318 block.

Yes it was measured using a gauge. In middle of stroke.

    Differences in 318 block.

I have a 89 block with a crack I cannot have fixed. I also have a good 71 block and rotating assembly. Will this older block work. Its std 3.910 bore. Largest bore size I measured was 3.931 what would be a good oversize .020 over?

    Timing gears

Other than having dead on timing is there any other reason for timing gears? I am considering putting them on.

    .040 over in 318

I was kind of thinking that the 40 overboard and larger CC heads would equal out. If I find a cheap 360 block in Craig somewhere I will probably use it but for now I’ve got a bunch of parts 318 can be switched over to 360 as long as my roller lifters link set up will fit in the block, I would...

    .040 over in 318

I am losing 2 cc in I am losing 2 cc in the combustion chamber in my new heads. My motor is 40 over. Will that pretty much equal out or will I still be losing compression because of the 2 cc loss?
