Digging for info - front drum explosion on 727s

Hoosier has told me not to do dry hops. They say the heat created by the burnout activates a chemical in the rubber and brings it to the surface. This chemical reacts to the glue on the track and increases traction. The dry hop removes the chemical from the surface of the tire and defeats the...

If you have a manual valve body, start your burnout in 2nd gear, avoid the sprag entirely.

Converter will no go in all the way

I was thinking about that. I'm by myself today, so I probably would have broken it!

Converter will no go in all the way

UPDATE: I finally got it. I took a long screwdriver and played around with the gears in the converter a little bit and it went in fairly easy.

Converter will no go in all the way

Had 727 rebuilt, using same converter that came out of it. This is a high stall racing converter, but I've had it in and out of this transmission several times for engine rebuilds and I've never had to wrestle with this thing before like this! BTW the tranny is out of the car on the bench. I've...

727 what size bolts for dust cover?

Small block 727: what size are the bolts supposed to be that hold the dust cover on the front of the bell housing? Somehow I wound up with metric bolts, 6x1mm. That cannot be right.

    converter slippage

Same converter size and gears here. You're going to cross the 1/4 around 7400-7600 with that gearing and tire size depending on your shift point.

    Leaking Driveshaft...HELP!!!

Well, this is what I did to mine today. Starting leaving a small puddle after sitting a week or so. Tested it with brake cleaner and shure enough it dripped! We'll see if this takes care of it, I'm too cheap to buy a new slip yoke unless this fails :)

Does anyone know where to get a mini spool for Chrysler 8.75

I have a Moser spool available for 35 spline axles. Is that any different than a mini spool? Actually, the whole rear end is for sale, narrowed A-Body.

    dana 60

You're lucky it didn't take out your right foot! I think your rear end will not be the weakest link any more. I went through the same thing with my Duster bracket car in October, but got lucky and it didn't damage the tranny at all. Like you, I replaced with a Dana 60 and all is well now. The...

    727 transmission fluid question

I use # 303 hydraulic fluid in the 727 that is in my bracket car. Gives very solid shifts. I had the tranny torn down recently after 2 years at the track and it didn't need any new friction materials. Only problem is the fluid is clear so it's kind of hard to see on the dipstick. Some folks...

Best place for Temp gauge sensor

I'm about to install a temp. sensor gauge on the 727 in my bracket car. Where would be the best location to install the sensor? In the pan somewhere? In the cooler line? Which line, the front one or the back one? Up by the trans cooler on the radiator?

which is better and why forward or reverse pattern mvb

x3, I always start my burnout in 2nd and shift quickly to 3rd for the majority of the burnout.
  19. RockinRobin

which is better and why forward or reverse pattern mvb

For drag racing, manual shift gives you more control over shift points; reverse pattern has you pulling the shifter away from neutral as you shift which is a safety feature. Manual shift removes the kickdown lever so that pressure in the valve body is constant. I don't see where anyone would...

Motorhome 727 trans in an A-body?

If it bolts to the tranny it sounds like it has the park brake drum on it. I have the long style tailpiece for a 727 that I don't need. PM me if interested and I'll go find it and take some pictures....

Transmission Temp... What range do I want to be in? -High Stall Converter

While the weld in bung would be better, I like the quick simpleness of taking out the drain plug and replacing it with a hollowed out one that will accept the sender. I'll have to check and see if the plug in the pan is a 1/2"-20. That seems to be a pretty universal size, so it probably is...

Transmission Temp... What range do I want to be in? -High Stall Converter

I would also like to add a trans temp gauge to my 727. It has a deep pan with a drain plug. Is there somebody who makes a drain plug with a 1/8" NPT hole in the plug so you can mount the sensor in it?

    727 filler tube leaking

I appreciate that, I'll have a look when the weather warms up, because I have to drop the rear of the tranny to look, due to headers being in the way.
