    Lucas Response To Zinc Additive

good points. i just though most of the cam failors in the day were due to over-zellous use of crazy valvesprings. same logic for today.

    Lucas Response To Zinc Additive

i said that in my first post on this subject.. hence "where's the million of cam failiors"? just another marketing ploy that some **** eyed kid made up. Gas on the otherhand was over 3 GPG (grams per gallon) prior to 1982 then it went to 1.1 GPG in 1983, 0.5 GPG in 1985, 0.1 GPG in 1986, then to...

    For The 440 GURU's

talked with a mopar only shop today and he informed i could go all that way to an .080" - .100" cut. so i guess .050" is safe. thanks.

    Lucas Response To Zinc Additive

i've never ever looked for any oil that had a high ZDDP (zinc & phosphorus) content. broken in cams with whatever oil, wallmart/castrol/mix and match/ etc. never had a cam failior. i've said this before. run killer springs on a street engine.. expect a lobe to go, also, running engines low on...

    For The 440 GURU's

yah they are KB400's.. "one off" in referance for a 413 block. sorry if it seemed misleading. . should end up at 444cid with this combo. so do you think a .050 deck cut is safe? PS.. man your good to figure out what piston that was..
  6. Petzschler

    For The 440 GURU's

thanks. pistons are full dome (not a quench dome) w/ valve reliefs. the pistons are 1.908" compression height.. center of pin to the top of the flat (not to the top of the dome). total volume of the dome is 6cc. with a 50 deck cut leaving it .001 down + a .040 gasket i think it should be safe.

    For The 440 GURU's

so the cut on the intake face dosn't end up into crazy #'s. so a .050 cut on the deck shouldn't be a problem? i don't have $$ to burn either. but i do have all winter to do it so i can spread out the cash over time. mines just basically gonna be a re-engineered 440... bottom end wise. PS. i got...

heads will be angled milled. just some "one off" pistons i got for an experimental RB engine.
  9. Petzschler

    For The 440 GURU's

i'm gonna be using 1.908" compression height pistons, along with 6.800" rods and a 3.915" stroke crank (offset ground journals to 2.200" [big block chevy size]). this would leave the -6cc dome pistons in the hole .050" so around 10.3:1 cr. the heads are 84cc close chamber aluminum. i assuming...

    For The 440 GURU's

with the stock RB deck height of 10.725", how much can you safely cut the deck? .050"? .080"? .100"? thanks in advance.

    413 insight

buy it but, your gonna have a hard time finding decent pistons if you wanna rebuild it. you could however give it a .070" overbore and use 426 wedge pistons, which are more available. don't worry much about goin .070" it'll take it with room to spare. PS. is it an industrial 413?

C body Big Block Manifolds, 69 383 Dart

don't some people cut off the d-side dump and reweld a b-body dump in a different postion not only for clearance, but to get rid of that "kink"?

where can i get one of these?

custom built is all your gonna find, and big$$$. closest you'll get for a manufactured piece would be a T-ram with dividers in the plenium and all 8 barrels going at the same time.

    Swap help

when we did my 73 duster i used the typical late saginaw pump. I can can tell you that i had to make a notch in the k-member near the d-side mount. mabey that was becouse of the schumacher mounts perhaps? i measured everything.. even the offset was bang on. who knows....

I guess with a measuring tape and some welding knowledge that would be the best way to go. you can then reenforce all the factory welds and box things in for added strength.

    big block vs. smal block

figured you you push for 4cyl DOMESTIC product over an import... not about fuel economy... i just don't believe that stock for stock a 440 vs 340 or even the Hi-Perf 360's (which has all the go fast 340 parts) get the same fuel economy.
  25. Petzschler

    big block vs. smal block

what? i had a 74rr that came with a 360 (bout 40k on the clock, all stock) 4sp. got around 18mpg on the hiway. I swapped it out for a 74 440(stock) with the same milage, and the best it could muster was about 11- 12mph hiway. both engines were in a very good state of tune.
