Could you run the 2X4 and only run one carb? That way you still get the cool look , but with one carb.

    clear coating an aluminum intake

I tried clear engine enamel and yes it turned yellow and gross. I ended up blasting the intake again to get rid of the yellow and painting with high temp BBQ paint which worked out great. I used aluminum BBQ paint and I am VERY pleased with how it turned out. JMO

    what causes this to happen

Mine does the same. When you park the car the gas in the carb boils off leaving no fuel in the carb the next time you try to start it. Do you have a spacer under the carb?

Choosing the right carb for my car (340 4-speed)

In my opinion a 600 cfm carb is not enough for that motor. I run a 750 on my 340 which is also not stock and it runs great. There is no stumble when I punch it and it pulls strong. If the 600 runds good go with it, but I feel that your are leaving some performace on the table with that small a...

I am only going to say this once

I ALWAYS ran holley carbs when I was younger, but now that I am old I want to spend my time left driving and not tuning! Remember we only have soo many days left to enjoy our cars and I want to soend as much time as possible behind the wheel. Just saying! LOL

I am only going to say this once

Running a holley is like being married! Great for the first while but trust me it will go south and when it does it will not be pretty and will cost you a lot of money and time. LOL

    100 Octane with 12:5:1 340??

I would LOVE to do that but it is not available in Canada. If it does become available I will run it for sure. What kind of cost am I looking at to convert?

    100 Octane with 12:5:1 340??

That would be correct. Is that a problem?

    100 Octane with 12:5:1 340??

Not great. It spark knocks if I do not run race fuel. I am putting about 5 gallons of race fuel in each tank of fuel which means to work well. What are you running your timing at?

What's a good 'cleaner' to clean my carb?

Lacquer thinner does a great job. It will break down anything in the carb but will not hurt the metal parts. Can't say the same for gaskets so you would have to put all new gaskets.

    Holley guru's- need advice

If you are running a stock 340 that will be too much carb and will cause you a lot of grief trying to get the car to run properly.

    What carb for a 340???

If it is a double pumper it could be a problem for a stock motor. I had a 780 Holley on a 69 340 with a purple shaft cam and it worked great! Much better than the 600 it replaced.
