Percolation? Heat soak? Don't drive during summer??

I had this very problem with the Edelbrock on my car. The intake has the heat crossover directly under the center of the carburetor. I could never get it to stop boiling that Eddy carb, even with a 1" spacer. Someone told me to put a Holley on the car and I would never have that problem again...

    Fuel Filler Neck Grommet Replacement

That point highlighted above is how the body gets scratched. If the neck doesn't slide into the grommet and tank smooth and easy, that metal flange "happily" stops when it hits the side of your car around the lip of the gas cap hole.

    Fuel Filler Neck Grommet Replacement

No worries. I laughed. Pretty sure every possible topic has been covered in FABO tenfold.

    Fuel Filler Neck Grommet Replacement

Just trying to help a guy out. He asked the question, so I figured I would respond, even if I did post this in 2017. Maybe people haven't had filler neck issues in three years and this was just the first thread that popped up in a search.

    Fuel Filler Neck Grommet Replacement

Boiling the grommet only makes it more pliable (softer) so that it will slip in easier. It does not swell the grommet. If it is loose, you might want to get another grommet. The dielectric grease was applied to the grommet where the filler neck passes through. It allows the neck to slide through...

How to block off fuel return line in Classic Industries Fuel Sending Unit.

I couldn't find a picture, but this is exactly what I did to my gas tank.

How to block off fuel return line in Classic Industries Fuel Sending Unit.

I plugged mine with a sealed piece of rubber hose and clamped it on tight with a hose clamp. I have not had any issues with leaking at this point.

    Installing new filler neck grommet...

Boil the rubber grommet on the stove for about 10 minutes. That will soften the rubber up a lot. Then it will pop right into the gas tank. Apply some dielectric grease to the grommet once it is in the tank and the filler neck should slide right in very easy.

    Carb Choice (New 318)

There is endless debate on these forums about your question. My mildly modified 318 started with an Edelbrock 600. I could not get heat boiling issues to resolve despite trying multiple different things. I switched to a Holley 600 and have had absolutely no problems since. But opinions vary...

New Fuel Tank / Seal yet massive Leak after filling my Tank

I had this exact problem with my Dart when I finally put it on the street after my build. It turned out that when the filler neck was pushed into the tank, through the seal, it pinched and split the bottom of the seal leaving essentially a nice size hole for gas to pour out of. I eventually...

Fuel tank filler tube installation trouble

I boiled my tank grommet first. That made it soft enough to get to fit into the tank opening without too much trouble. Then I applied a liberal amount of dielectric grease to the grommet and the tube slid right in.

    Fuel Filler Grommet

I just replaced my grommet not too long ago and I used dielectric grease. It was so smooth and fast I didn't even realize the insertion was complete, but it was.

What carb are you running? (mild 318)

I have a mildly hopped up 318 and I'm running a 600 cfm Holley and the car runs great. With the setup as you explained it, there is no need to go overkill on the carb.

Insulating Against Heat on the Carb

I ended up ditching the Edelbrock carburetor and installed a Holley. I kept the 1/2" phenolic spacer on the car for good measure. I did not block off the heat crossover at all on my intake. I have not had a single problem since switching to the Holley carb.

    Fuel Filler Neck Grommet Replacement

Swapped out the grommet and that fixed my problem. Filled up this evening and no leak. Actually, I didn't even drop the tank all the way. I unscrewed the filler neck and pulled it up and out and left the tank where it was. Boiled the grommet per recommendation above and the grommet went right...

    Fuel Filler Neck Grommet Replacement

Do I understand that you did not unscrew the filler neck from the outside of the fender? And did you replace your grommet with one like I described that was square lipped on both sides. Any idea if the one they sent me is meant to work? It looks like some of the grommets that I see advertised...

    Fuel Filler Neck Grommet Replacement

Hey I purchased this grommet you recommended and received it in the mail today. The picture on the eBay listing shows a grommet with a rounded lip side and a square lip side. The grommet I received is square-lipped on both sides. It looks like it is something universal so you could install it...

    Fuel Gauge Question

If the grommet doesn't get here before this weekend, I guess I will be making the Carlisle run without a full tank of gas to prevent the leak. Not my preferred option, but it looks like the grommet may be delayed in arrival.

    Fuel Gauge Question

I bought this exact grommet you mentioned previously. If all goes as planned, I am going to swap it out this weekend, so that I will be all set for Carlisle next week. As for the sender, how difficult is it to bend the fuel pickup? Seems that it is on the opposite side of the tank from the...

    Fuel Gauge Question

That is an excellent question, and the answer is I have no idea. Perhaps I could check it if I have to drop the tank to fix the leaking grommet issue anyway.

    Fuel Gauge Question

So ever since I reassembled my Dart, which included a new fuel tank, lines and sending unit (everything in the fuel system), the fuel gauge only reads 3/4 full when I have filled the tank all the way up (nearly to overflowing). My question is, when the gauge is down almost to "Empty (E)" (I have...

    Fuel Filler Neck Grommet Replacement

Thanks. I am planning on dropping the tank. I was more curious if I could leave the filler neck screwed into the side of the body because I saw how they scratched the side of the car before and I didn't want to risk screwing up my paint if I have to do this myself. Hadn't thought about...

    Fuel Filler Neck Grommet Replacement

The side of the car (quarter panel) was getting scratched. The metal plate on the outside that screws to the side of the body would lash back when the neck would pop through the grommet and smack the side of the car. Now, that could have been because the dummy didn't lube the gasket. I mean...

    Fuel Filler Neck Grommet Replacement

I think getting the neck to pop through the grommet was tough. And since it has a metal face plate on the outside that plate would smack back against the side of the car. Probably will just use the epoxy to get me through Carlisle then pull it down and fix it right. I'm a little concerned how...

    Fuel Filler Neck Grommet Replacement

So today I discovered that I have a leak around the opening in the gas tank where the fuel filler neck enters the tank. These are all new parts from my build. The tank does not have the big rubber grommet because the dummy that final assembled my car (not me) tore the grommet and quick fixed the...

600 CFM, all I need. Check my math!

I'm running a warmed up 318 with mild cam and milled 2.02 heads to increase compression. I have 600 Holley on a dual plane intake on my car and it runs great. Excellent throttle response and plenty of power for my needs. Mileage tends to be variable based on how I drive it.

    Filler neck gasket leak

When we installed my fuel filler neck, it pinched and tore the underside of the filler neck grommet. Instead of trying to replace it, we bought a gas tank repair kit from the local auto parts store. We applied it around the seam where the neck goes into the tank and built it up to fill all of...

Need Help with Fuel Filler Neck Trunk Seal

Thanks for the input. Since it will be covered up by the trunk mat anyway, I will just probably opt for the later seal. Car is not all stock anyway.

Need Help with Fuel Filler Neck Trunk Seal

We replaced the entire trunk pan in my 69 Dart. I bought the AMD trunk pan that is for all A-bodies for 67-76. However, the new fuel filler neck trunk seal (the big rubber piece that sits in the trunk floor where the neck goes through the floor) that I bought, does not appear to be big/wide...
