Here you go guys. Sorry, I didn't realize pics of shock plates would be that exciting.

    E-bay find

I have to gloat a little about what I was lucky enough to pick up on E-bay for 50 bucks. I've been looking for a pair of spring plates for the 8 1/4 rear installation on my Duster. The starting bid was 50 and no one else ever made a bid. I actually feel a little guilty, especially since it...

Drum brake swap from 7 1/4" to Jeep 8 1/4"

Great, exactly what I was hoping to hear. I couldn't believe that someone hadn't already done this before me. This is a really cheap way to get 3.55 gears and the extra axle width will be perfect for my 17" Mustang wheels.

Drum brake swap from 7 1/4" to Jeep 8 1/4"

Thanks, I knew that was one option from the searching I've done. I'm happy, at least for now, with the 10" drums since I've already rebuilt them and they work great.

Drum brake swap from 7 1/4" to Jeep 8 1/4"

Sorry, I re-read my original post and I wasn't very clear. I am looking to swap the complete drum brake setup over, not just the drums.

Drum brake swap from 7 1/4" to Jeep 8 1/4"

I've done many searches on this and I'm still not 100% sure. I have a 3.55 geared 8 1/4 rear out of, I believe, a 97 Jeep Cherokee. I'm intending to install it in my 73 Duster this winter. I am fairly certain that the 10" drums from my current BBP 7 1/4" axle should be a direct swap to the...

    7 1/4 rear?

I'm very far from an expert but I'm fairly certain that factory big bolt 7 1/4 axles will not work in a small bolt housing. I'm not sure what all the differences are but I think the housing length is even different between the two. I'm sure you'll get replies shortly from those that know for sure.

    Wheel spacers

Thanks, that would obviously be a lot less work than modifying and swapping and entire rear axle, brakes, new driveshaft, etc. I had looked at some online before but was a little scared of China parts. Those look to be high quality. I guess as long as they are billet 6061 and not cast they...

Crap, I just realized this should have gone in the wheel forum.

    Wheel spacers

I've got a 73 duster with a big bolt 7 1/4", 2.76 open gear. The way I drive, I'll probably never hurt the wimpy rear and I'm not sure that going to a 2.94 or 3.23 gear would really be worth the effort to install a different rear axle. I definitely wouldn't put the money into the 7 1/4" to...

Thanks everyone for the responses. I went and grabbed it. It may be a few weeks until I can dig into it and see exactly what I got but it's not stuck.

I think I figured out how to get the pics on here. I'm thinking I stumbled into a good deal. Anyone feel free to tell me otherwise if you see something I'm missing.

This is a complete rear axle assembly with rims and tires on it. Looks like it had the lines cut and was just rolled out from under the car. It looks like it will be worth grabbing. Thanks.

I have located a 8 3/4" 741 case out of a 68 b-body. Drum to drum, open carrier, gear ratio unknown. Guy is asking $150. Does that sound like a good price? Looking for a wider rear to put under my 73 Duster. I would prefer 66-67 as they are slightly narrower, but if the price is right, this...

46re acts like its in forward and reverse at same time

Ok, here are some pics of the debris. Ignore what appears to be small rocks. Oil-dry got in the mix somehow. The bottom pic is all magnetic crap. Largest piece is about a 1/4" square. The magnet is about 1 1/4" dia. for size references. I also got a better description of what happened...

46re acts like its in forward and reverse at same time

Some of the aluminum pieces are 3/8 to 1/2 inch long and a lot of them are 1/8 ish. Does stuff like that show up in a properly operating trans? If it is dead, we don't intend to rebuild. We'll look for a used trans. Truck not worth putting the amount of money into that a rebuild would cost...

46re acts like its in forward and reverse at same time

First thing I did. Its definitely non-magnetic. As far as the black crud they always have, it didn't actually look bad. Fluid looked decent also.

Okay, thanks for everyone's input. Dropped the pan tonight and no huge chunks but lots of aluminum shavings. Something obviously is coming apart.

Yes, it will roll with transfer case in neutral. T-case was my first thought but it is working properly.

46re acts like its in forward and reverse at same time

Have not looked yet. We'll drop the pan tonight and expect the worst. I actually did get it to idle forward about 20 feet last night seemingly normally. Then after trying reverse, it would only drive forward with lots of throttle and was not smooth.

46re acts like its in forward and reverse at same time

This is not an a-body related question, but it seems like the tech knowledge on this site about anything Mopar is the best you can find on the web. My son has a 2000 Ram 4x4 with a 5.9 and a 46RE. The truck will not drive forward or reverse and will not even roll with the trans shifted to...
