Ebay water pump does $1000 in damage.

Same thing happened to me 20 years back or so. Catastrophic water pump crack, fan went into radiator, busted up fan shroud. I think root cause was 1/2 inch spacer between fan and water pump threw fan balance off. Cast iron water pump. Luckily no damage to hood. Was trying to get better...

Searching for a Mopar Mechanic near Chicago"

Any Pontiac guys on here? Need insight.

Yeah doesn't make any sense lifters are not sending or restricting oil flow. On a mopar where they have shaft rockers oiled up through heads makes sense but most other engine oil up through push rods.

Any Pontiac guys on here? Need insight.

Engine builder probably ordered lifters, that what showed up, threw them in there. Why didn't engine builder run oil pump with drill and verify oiling before intake bolted on is beyond me. All kinds of problems can be caught fixed corrected by checking verifying. But no, its hey lets be dumb...

Waiting to see if oil gets pushed up through all 16 rockers when you run oil pump with drill.

Any Pontiac guys on here? Need insight.

Right best to address the obvious, get that fixed, see what happens from there. Sure some other problem(s) may still exist. But if oil aint flowing up, soaking head, running down side of block, splashing oil everywhere causing a giant mess with ppl screaming shut the engine off, then yeah its...

Any Pontiac guys on here? Need insight.

I ran oil pump with drill on two diff engines with hydraulic lifters, one mopar, one small block Ford. In both cases oil visibly flowed to all 16 rocker arms without turning crank. And it was real obvious oil was flowing with valve covers off. I could see oil flowing out of push rods filling...

Any Pontiac guys on here? Need insight.

Should see oil going up to rockers when running oil pump with drill. So definitely something to resolve. Does anyone really think a rebuilt engine actually has a plastic timing chain gear? Really? All this the timing chain gear is plastic on a rebuilt engine I doubt thats the case.

Any Pontiac guys on here? Need insight.

Should have hole in top of lifters where push rods seats into them. And oil should push through hole up through push rods to rockers Its also a good idea to turn engine by hand running oil pump with drill make sure lifters ride at correct height in lifter bores. I had to get a cam with...

Right not water pump or any belt driven unit. But could be cam rubbing or cam gear rubbing something. Hopefully found corrected without engine damage.

Sound not good at all like metal to metal rubbing non stop in consistent manner. Not valve train or crank/rods/pistons that is something spinning rubbing. A mechanic stethoscope could tell you is it front or rear of engine under timing cover ect helps narrow down location.

I wanna see that '68 get fixed and hopefully see a video of it running no noise....

Any Pontiac guys on here? Need insight.

I use mechanic stethoscope and another method is 3/8 inch fuel line one end to ear move other end around engine comp. Those two techniques can help find source of noise.

    Trying to summon the motivation

Keeping work area clean, tools and parts organized and easy to find helps me feel a lot better when I step in the garage to get something done. Fake Money Used to Purchase Classic Car

My son sold an old Honda 4 cyl recently. We were able to buy a marker that turns colors to detect real or fake. We checked every bill to make sure it was legit. Those markers to detect fake money can be bought at Staples, Walmart etc.
