    904 has no first gear?

Reverse work? Even if the rear band is broke you should still have low gear.If the rear clutch is bad second wont work either. Maybe check your linkage adjustment.

904 slipping from 2nd-3rd (with video)

A&A transmission have been real great to work with for me. aandatrans.com I have thier parts in my 904 including manual valve body and it has worked great for 6 years. Pulled it down for freshening and everything inside was great. If you pull that trans out for repairs, make sure the clutch...

904 slipping from 2nd-3rd (with video)

I like the red bands/clutches myself, but I switched from dexron III fluid to atf +3 in my 904, it would slip on the 1-2 shift. Went back to regular dex III and it shifted fine. I have no explanation for this. Is that front band adjusted? Also, you might have a shift overlap issue, It's kinda...

    8-3/4 powr-lok

I have the 8-3/4 sure grip, dana powr-lok style. It has 2 thick & 1 thin clutch plate per side. The rebuild kit only comes with thick clutch plates, and says to re-use the thin plates. My thin plates have the ears broken off them. So, what happens if I use all thick plates in this type of...

is my trans taking a dump?

Almost sounds like a vacuum leak or maybe you need to have the valves adjusted. Even with a fresh engine, it's a good idea to adjust the valves after initial run in.

    904 slip yoke

were there 2 sizes? I have a 7290 26 spline that is new and it is too big too engage the splines on my 904, which is out of a 73 coronet/318. I think the 727 had 29 splines if I remember correctly. Maybe someone can clear this up.

**How much power can an A904 take?**

With 1000 ft lbs you may not need a 3 speed. The "powerglides" that most Super Series racers use today are all aftermarket parts and can take the kind of power you will be making. I am not suggesting you use one, but the 2 speed is an option and would be cheaper to to buy than a t/flite for high...

    3.55 or 3.91

How about 4.30's? My bracket 318 which I drove to the strip struggled even with 4.30's. 60' times were in the 1.90's. Don't take me wrong, I love that 318, it just needs all the help you can give it on the low end. If you are going to race the car, consider 4.88's. Seriously.

changed gears in a 741 now have a whine

I found a pinion depth tool made by Ratech for 8-3/4's. It was cheap and easy to use. I actually found it on ebay and I think it was only like $27.00 or something. It made pinion depth guessing a thing of the past.

    Moser vs Strange

8.8 rear in my A-body. I cant be the first!

I have not done it, but researched it a little. Ford explorer 8.8 is offset. I believe the pass side is longer. From what I have heard, cut the pass side to the same length as the drivers side, and get another drivers side axle. Of course, the spring pads need to be welded in the right place for...

    Spool vs SG

I bought a brand new clutch type sure grip in ebay for $330.00. I know that is still more than a spool, but on the street a spool will be hard on tires and axles. It will work though, as I know many people that run them on the street. As far as the 4.56 gears for a 741, I don't think any one...

    904 Transmission issues.

    pinion seal install

Sometimes you can cheat. I know on ford 8.8 and dana 35 & 44 you can measure the turning torque with a beam type torque wrench before you pull the yoke. Then you replace the seal and use and impact, a little at a time, to tighten the yoke nut until the turning torque is the same. Not the "right"...

    Atf +3

    8-3/4 pinion nut torque

You betcha! Thanks Jim, I put all new bearings in it and the pinion bearing preload on my old Richmond instruction sheet calls for 15-25 inch pounds on new bearings. Too tight? I have 25 inch pounds right now. Seems a little tight to me, but the Ford 8.8 calls for 16-29 inch pounds on new...

    8-3/4 pinion nut torque

I can't find a torque spec for the pinion yoke nut on a 742 8-3/4. I know it is 5/8-18 thread, so I guessed 150-170 ft lb. Is it more than that? Thanks in advance!
