B body is wider and taller.

Could be shutting off on low pressure or high pressure. You say its full. Have you put a/c gauges on to check pressure? Did you vacuum the system and put new drier on it before charging? Does it have a sight glass on it that you can look for bubbles in it?

The fans need to be in front of the rad if they push. Behind it like yours they should pull.

I think you have your hose hooked up backwards and still low on freon. Plus it has a leak or it would not be low. Need to fix it right and convert to 134.

The temp selector is what controls the valve, so yes if you remove it the heater core will always have hot water running through it.

I would say you have a leak if no pressure when its hot,

Why don't you replace the heater control valve?
