I have a 440 in my Belvedere, edelbrock heads, headders, rpm intake, Hughes CAM-HEH 2832BL cam.
3.23 gears, 2000rpm stall.
Not what I would call a race car. Lots of talk about them but no real reviews on a warm big block.
Waaaaaay worse with the orange cams, can't even floor it it just about stalls completely. As a side note the Holley pump cams have much less foot print then the Demon ones which is of course all they had. I noticed there are 3 different but marked scew holes on the red pump cams, is it worth...
Sorry had some computer issues. Here are the specs on the car.
Stock J Heads 2.02 intake 1.60 exhaust and Crane Gold 1.5 ratio rocker arms.
3.55 gears and a 727 with 3000 stall from SMR, stage 2 shift kit from transgo.
It runs a Hughes cam #heh2328al
111deg lobe seperation/installed...
Put the 7.5 power valve in and went for a drive almost cures the hesitation it will only do it once and awhile now. Before I checked the forum I just put the 37 shooter in the primary but no pump cams as they didn't have any and I didn't go to the other place.
Half throttle from a stand...
I'll hit the local speed shop this weekend and pick up apower valve, 37 shooter and the orange pump cam. Do I ned the 37 on the rear too or just the primary?
With the 67 jets in the front that it came with the A/F ratios where 12.73 to 12.85 at WOT and 13.56 to 13.78 at cruise. It was recomended I could go down 2 jet izes and if it didn't ping it was good to go. So I dropped down on the front to a 65 with no noticeable change.
The reason it...
The one while cruiseing is in 3rd around 2000rpm. Timing initial is 16 and 32 all in at 2500rpm.
I've tried more timing but at WOT it was pinging a little at 18 initial.
When you stab 1/4 to half throttle it will pick up and very quickly cut out then pick up and go hard you can actually...
750 Mighty Demon on my 340 with 3.55 gear and a 3000rpm stall and heres the issue.
Pullng about 9" of vacuum in gear warmed up so I swapped to a 4.5 power valve 65 Jets in the front 75 in the rear this was checked on an exhaust gas analyzer while driving.
31 shooters front and rear and red...
Well I put a gauge inline to the carb and the pump was idleing around 7-8 and sit around 8-9 with rpm. When you let off after reving it it would peak higher for a flash of a second before it would go back down. The needle was wildly eratic and almost a blur to read -non liquid filled gauge-...
The whole fuel system is braided line. The specs of dirt don't appear to be rubber like more like dirt and possibly tiny metal flakes.
Very fine particulate only visable when on the white rag and even then if all added together maybe the surface area of a pencil eraser.
Fuel filter had some very small debris in it cleaned it out not a whole lot in there. Pulled the bowls floats are fine and this problem has happened on 2 different carbs BTW. Bowls on the carb had a few very very fine specs of "dirt" in it.
Is it normal to have anything at all in the bowls...
It's a Demon carb only been on the car about 3 months maybe, it also did it to my previous Demon.
Might order a new fuel feed log for the carb with a built in gauge but the problem is I'll never seen the gauge while driving and I can idle and rev the car all day and never duplicate the issue...
Mine just did it again out on the highway but this was the worst one yet. After the first round of posts I reset the floats right at the bottom of the windows and its been fine for about 100miles, went out on the highway drove like a dream went to a little car meet and when I left nailed it on...
Hard to belive it's the same problem with 2 different carbs and not the pump and only does it after WOT. Both carbs are Demons and floats are set correctly as per FBO instruction on carb one and the engine shop on the other.
This isn't a regular occurance but dieing in mid traffic while...
Looking at summit kinda leaning towards the now Edelbrock street pump thats supposed to be 6psi and not need a regulator. I have all AN lines so it should match up good. Holley also has a similar version but at 6.5-9psi.
Currently running an FBO "special" mechanical fuel pump on my mild 340. Twice this has happened now.
After a WOT then off and just rolling the car starts to stumble smoke and then die. Had the air cleaner off on the side of the road and the carb is pukeing fuel bowls are way over full...
A/F was 12.73 to 12.85 at wide open throttle and 13.56 to 13.78 at cruise with a good reading on the plugs.
Was told I could drop two jet sizes up front provided it doesn't ping. How do you richen up the transition?
On my 750 Mighty Demon annular I have a slight stumble/hesitiation @ 1900 to 2000rpm while cruiseing only with a slight tip into the throttle.
It had factory 31 shooters front and back, I changed the front to a 35 and it seemed to get a bit better. Should I keep going bigger or is there...
Same question has also been asked on Moaparts. I'm leaning toward the QuickFuel 750 ss with annular boosters.
As a street car going rich in the high rpm isn;t a big issue as it doesn't see WOT for extended time periods. Also from my reading the size of the annular boosters somewhat...
Word is the Barry Grant has gone under. Engine shop had to look for a carb as no one has any NEW stock short of what was on the shelf.
I called Quick Fuel today they recomended an SS 650 Double pumper but the tech didn't recomend annular boosters on the street as they tend to go rich on the...
Never made it out before, the Block Shop built the engine and thats who I am dealing with on the carb. Slightly worried about a total lack of warrenty on a $500 carb too.
Nice to see some local members here. I usually end up at White Oaks on Friday nights but the drags might be more fun...
As stated in a previous post I tested a 750 Mighty Demon on my 340 in place of the 650 speed demon it currently runs. The mid range and top end where awesome and the idle quality was atually much better.
The engine shop can get me a 650 Mighty Demon -all he says I need- or they also deal...
Sorry you misunderstood me, I don't have a 6 pack just a 650 speed Demon but I tried a 750 Mighty Demon and the mid range and top end where awesome.
The bog with my 650 is when I first hit it, did it with both carbs and with numerous tuning sessions.
Well working out the bugs on my Duster and it's bog issues. Borrowed a 750 double pumper Mighty Demon, it was set up for a 408 stroker so it was pretty rich on my 340 but even so it ran better and the mid range and top end was way better then my 650 Speed Demon.
The bog was a little better...
Has anyone run one of these? Still on the fence over the vacuum secondary vs DP but I like the fact the ultras are available with an electric choke, don't care about the colours really.
I bought an FBO mechanical fuel pump a few years back, the ones that claimed to be ported polished etc. I had tried running an Edelbrock AVS on the car and it POURED fuel down the carb when running. Curious if my Demon doesn't have a similar issue at times.
After ready a bunch about fuel...
Well $100 later they say the tank is all good and tested ok.
So looks like I get to JB weld after all as there must be a pinhole in the weld that makes a very small leak.
