    Cam bearing question

At the risk of opening a can of worms I have a question for you engine gurus. I'm installing cam bearings. I have 1 with the oil hole just a little off center. Can I push it through and try again or is the bearing toast and get a new one?

leaky heads gaskets, I'm losing it!

All right everyone. After taking a few weeks off from cars to do spring yardwork I decided to put my big boy pants on and try this again. Same heads, heads have been shaved .025. Everything I read says that's no big deal. I cleaned the block and heads with razor blades and acetone. I used Fel...

    Magnum camshaft bearing mystery

Hole was lined up on both motors. Maybe just a assembly snafu at the factory.

    Magnum camshaft bearing mystery

That's the case. Only 1 is bad. I just thought it was odd that both motors had the same bearing go bad. It looks terrible. I am changing the cam anyways but I was expecting to see damage to the cam but found nothing. I'm going to replace them for sure. This was more for my own curiosity .

    Magnum camshaft bearing mystery

I have 2 360 magnum motors that I purchased used. Both have over 100k on them. Both were exceptionally clean inside. No sludge, cylinder wear at a minimum, etc. When I went to change the camshaft, Both had weird wear and damage on the #4 cam bearing " see pics" No damage found on either...

leaky heads gaskets, I'm losing it!

It is an LA block but has blind holes. Nothing in the water jackets. I've been busy with yard projects as always seems to happen in May. Plan on getting back to my motor next week.

leaky heads gaskets, I'm losing it!

New info everyone. Not sure if this is my problem or not. I picked up a good used 360 magnum motor this week. I measured the thickness of the heads at the corners that are machined with the mounting surfaces. The set of heads I am trying to use is .025 thinner than stock heads. Looks like they...

Has anyone ever used Accurate engines?

I came across a place just outside Grand Rapids Mi called Accurate engines. They will reman a 360 for $1900, LA or magnum with a 100k warranty. Turn around time is 5 days. Of course that is with me dropping my motor off and picking it up myself. no shipping. Has anyone ever used these guys or...

leaky heads gaskets, I'm losing it!

Unfortunately it doesnt run off. Excess oil rolls up the threads as you turn the bolts in, comes out the top and contaminates the clean head surface and ruins head gaskets. I like how there are pictures on line and in books showing people dipping their bolts in a cup of motor oil. Just enough...

leaky heads gaskets, I'm losing it!

Lightly coat the threads with wd40 then wiping the bolts with a paper towel. Just so the threads are shiny. I made that mistake years ago with 2 much oil.

leaky heads gaskets, I'm losing it!

My wire wheel is low speed on a milwaukee cordless drill. 3m roloc pads are a definitely a no no when cleaning a mating surface. And yes, I use green coolant. I will try the tile and 600 grit sandpaper trick to see what I come up with.

leaky heads gaskets, I'm losing it!

I pulled the heads back off today. Gasket residue is in all the right places. Nothing sticks out as being wrong. Head bolts don't go into water jackets. Magnum heads don't have studs going into water jackets either so those are eliminated. Not sure what the deal is. Thanks for everyone's input...

leaky heads gaskets, I'm losing it!

Thanks for the input everyone. I guess I'll tear it down again tomorrow. I'll be able to change head gaskets in record time when this is finished. It just sucks to do it again.

leaky heads gaskets, I'm losing it!

The magnum head gaskets have holes for the pushrods to go through. Can't be used on an LA block because the pushrod angle is different. I'm guessing the 521SD must be the ones I need unless someone else has a better suggestion. When I built my last LA/ magnum cross breed I think I used some...

leaky heads gaskets, I'm losing it!

Alright, My 360 La motor needed new valve seals. I happen to have all the components to switch over to magnum heads including a set of heads. I figure, Why not? I made a hybrid for my 67 Dart years ago and it runs well. I'll do the same for the old D100. So I tear the motor down. Scrape the...
