hi fellas, im looking into getting a set of new valve springs for a set of heads i want to put on a 383. the motor seems to have a slightly larger duration than stock cam in it but i looked at the cam before and i didnt see any numbers or markings so i dont really know what kind, lift, etc...

go to autozones website and after putting in your cars year, model, engine size, etc. look up the part and then look for the tech section and it will show you how to replace the part even pics are shown

i would shoot for a round 10 degrees at idle , then later when youve got everything else sorted out, see if more inital helps or hurts performance.

anyone ive ever heard of doing it uses just motor oil on it all. i just dip the whole piston and rings in oil then put it into the cyl. sure its messy but you cant have too much oil on a new engine.

lacquer thinner will work

ive had good luck with this : www.seallube.com it isnt real cheap but works. it wont work on cork gaskets. ive even used it to get jacks working again.

compression would be the same whether car or truck for that year. if it was me, i would pull the heads and do a template port job , put a thin steel head gasket back on then add everything you mentioned and you would have a decent performing car.

these are the ones im after, i can buy them new but would rather help someone out and not pay hi $$ for them .
