1974 Dart 318 crank, but no start (Solved)

I have a few of questions about this statement. You may have answered these already so bear with me. What is the voltage at the battery (volt meter + to batt+ and volt meter - to battery -)? With all the wires connected and the key in the run position . With the meter - connected to the...

    Help!! What is this box?

Henry Ford might or might not have said this, " Your generation has it made with your pick a part yards and magazine adds at your finger tips. In my day we had to invent things and build them from raw materials."

    what gauge of wires?

You could eliminate some wires and weight by going to a small lightweight 1 wire alternator like the one in this link. GM Denso Style 1-Wire Mini Race Alternator, 90 Amp

battery to starter/main cutoff switch Q

Have you considered mounting the battery more towards the rear of the car? Ballast is not allowed in that class. Most have the battery mounted in the trunk area to help with rear percentage.

battery to starter/main cutoff switch Q

the "Kill switch" is just the ignition on /off switch. A battery disconnect is not required.

Stuff leaking out of ignition box.

This truck has a high speed miss starts a random miss above 4000 rpm . I tried a new coil and it still misses. I was looking things over and noticed what looks like something leaking out the ignition box. Is this a sign the box is failing or about to fail? What is a good box to replace it with...

Spark plugs. Why is it so hard?

Thanks to RRR and Bewey I have learned more about sparkplugs and how they operate. Information provided has been very helpful. The name calling, profanity, and chest thumping not so much.

    MSD distributor guru

Any theories as to why engines on dynos like excessive timing and fuel for most power? Is it like find the best timing on the dyno then subtract x amount or does it change the shape of the curve more and want less or more timing in a certian area? Does this apply to both engine and chassis...

    MSD distributor guru

The testing that I have done shows that some motors like a couple more degrees after peak horse power or at least stay the same. Not saying there are not applications where the opposite may be true. Almost nothing is true for every motor and application. I feel like I'm hijacking the op's thread...

My mule has one in it. It's a chevy but I have one in my spec motor also. Next time I have iton the dyno I'll shoot a video.

    MSD distributor guru

Try a FAST distributor ( not the hei style) if you get the chance. It uses a digital signal that generates a square wave form. Doesn't loose timing with RPM like a HEI or MSD magnetic pick up. They only make it in a locked out version though. I've found most times if you can keep it from...

    Base timing. Really ?

    Got it. That makes sense.

    Base timing. Really ?

    Base timing. Really ?

Your correct. The vacuum and mechanical adv. are not directly connected mechanically. They are connected because each contributes to the total amount of timing the engine sees at each RPM. As in initial + vacuum + mechanical = total

    Base timing. Really ?

I'll try to explain. If this is wrong then someone can delete this. If we have 2 plates one with short slots and one with long slots. In both cases we want 34 deg at wide open throttle for best power. Long slot = 10 deg at Idle and 34 deg wide open. Short slot = 20 deg at idle and 34deg. wide...

    Another timing curve question

Sounds like the starter getting a little bucky is what is causing your spring situation to be overly complex. Couldn't you get an ignition box with a start retard built into it? Then you could eliminate using the light spring which in my experience can lead to an unstable idle.
