AFR misleading? Plugs tell a better story?

Unless you put 8 O2-sensors in every port AFR reading are always an average of 4 or 8 cylinders. Start with plugging the brakebooster vacuumline into the correct port and do your readings after some time.

What's the timing set at at idle? I think you should be at least around 20+ advance.

Continuing saga of the leaking ThermoQuad fuel bowl

Well well well.... Have you tried dipping/storing a dab of JB weld into a closed jar of gasoline, to see what happens over time with it (to make sure it's indeed the gasoline that's the culprit)? Maybe it's just the prep that makes the JB fail and if that's improved then, eh, all's well? :)

    who owns/uses a LM_2?

It's most likely the controller or the gauge. I've had an MTX-L that started doing this after some time. Worked for a couple of minutes then would crap out. Tried rewiring it a number of times, no change. Changing O2-sensors altered the readings somewhat, but gauge still started showing...

    Air-fuel ratio schooling needed.

I would try to go as lean as possible with idle, to prevent fouling the plugs. Lean mixture doesn't hurt anything inside when the engine isn't 'working'. The 14.7 number is just a "chemical" ratio that means all the air-molecules have burned completely with all the fuel-molecules. The...

    Empty Carburetor

Fuel doesn’t drain back, it evaporates out the carb. Install a heat-insulating spacer and the problem becomes much less.

Still stalling after carb rebuild. ???

Just after the engine stalls, leave it off and look into the carb and operate the throttle to see if any fuel is squirted properly. - If not, the float could be set too low. - The fuel tank is drawing a vacuum because of blocked vent(s) or lack of vented fuel cap (remove fuel cap after stalling...

fuel pump draining back to tank

A simple electric fuel pump takes care of empty bowls in about a second. Having cooler gasoline is a good thing, and an insulating spacer always helps with that.

    EFI Conversion

You're wrong about timing control not benefitting a street car. Timing is way more important on a street car than on some straightline limited use car. Dragracers are the ones that usually don't care/know/need how to properly set timing because something around 36° degrees advance is all they'll...

Rebuilt Thermoquad issue -- It has to be primed before start each time

I once had a bad case of this Thermoquad fuel 'oilpan' leakage when the engine would start to idle very rich without possibility to lean it out anymore. When opened up shortly after, I noticed fuel in one of the chambers in the lower base plate where the these oilpans normally reside when the...

Rebuilt Thermoquad issue -- It has to be primed before start each time

A common issue with the Thermoquad plastic housings is the 2 little 'oilpans' / buckets at the bottom start leaking and let fuel drain from the float chambers straight into the manifold. The fix is to crack them loose and reattach them with JB-Weld or something like that.

Rev 318 in park, slows down and stalls..case study.

First 'hunch'; Fuel tank ventilation clogged up and pulling vacuum? Wrong fuel cap on the tank (Vented/Non-vented)? In these years the fuel tank ventilation probably goes through a charcoal cannister somewhere under the hood I would presume, which might be clogged up?

    Edelbrock Carb-Electric vs. Manual Choke

I never would like a constant voltage draw in a device for the entire trip for something that only gets used 2-3 minutes after startup. Where are the manifold heated chokes gone these days? (I don't use a choke on my setup because I use LPG which idles fine at pretty much any outside temp.)

    EFI help

Don't think too much about the 'self tuning' stuff all those EFI kits mention. Yes they can get the mixture tuned to be around stoich or some user-entered value, but how do you know that's what your engine wants? The actual tuning still comes from the knowledge and experience of the owner. A...

    Vaporizing Fuel w/my Device... Results...

I thought the (US) way for applying for a patent was that it's "best" to mainly describe the idea, and not the materials used, as to keep it as vague as possible for copycats? So if someone else makes a similar device, you can defend your idea with 'prior art'.

    Vaporizing Fuel w/my Device... Results...

Sounds exactly how propane fuel acts in cold weather :) Do you think the device would have any likely benefit on other fuels used in cars, like Propane / LPG? Propane doesn't need vaporisation as it's already a gas and it will actually benefit from a stone cold intake. As for the costs...

SB intake mod: Fully seperate water passage from intake runners...

Anyone ever seperated the water coolant passage from the rest of the intake manifold to run a cooler mixture? Something like the Air Gap intake, but then fully seperate. I don't like the 'coolant' heating up the front cylinder intake passages, or the aluminium it's part of. Something like...

Trail, Overtime I've seen a few cars burn to the ground on Youtube where the owners had installed electric fuelpumps but no safety-devices in case a fuelline dry-rots or say a car gets in an accident and/or ends up on its side in a ditch. Besides the accident 'hassle', which might gets you...
