    DIY Classic Looking Roof Rack

Rob, Thanks for your all-too-kind comments, but I am not kidding; what little I know about turbocharging I learned from you guys on FABO, and the braintrust over at the Slantsix.org site. I did read a few books in the six years I have been interested in forced induction, but at my (advanced)...

Yeah, David, what the Rusty Rat Rod said: Insanely jealous of your fertile mind and endlesly abundant talent for getting things done.... You suck...:blob:

If I had mt druthers, my '64 Valiant would have '65 front fenders on it (but with the '64 grill.) I like the angle of the downward sculpture line more on the '65. I'd like to get some opinions about whether to even run a front bumper or not on my car. Here it is, both ways; which looks better...

Duster 340 not a muscle car...

No, the cars you mentioned are faster, quicker and not even in the same league with the fourteen-second "muscle cars" that were big block intermediates... The popular "musclecars" just weren't that fast,... But, the press had named them and described their makeup, and the really FAST cars...

Duster 340 not a muscle car...

The term "MUSCLE CAR" was coined, (as I remember it,) by the automotive press in 1964, when the first GTO.'s were introduced. (I was 26 in 1964, when this all started...) The writers described a muscle car as an intermediate body (there were no pony cars, yet... the Mustangs came a bit later...

So just how good was the A-Body back in its day?

A bevy of W-2 headed 340 a bodies, and 440 Roadrunners would have changed that perception because the all-conquering Chevy's of the day would not have stood a chance... I can't imagine why Ma didn't take advantage of that opportunity; it would have changed everything! Shaking head...:banghead:

So just how good was the A-Body back in its day?

Where Ma Mopar made the fatal mistake was in her conservative thinking in the packages offered. No Road Runner should have ever left the showroom without at least a 440 Magnum under tthe hood, with the six-pak option for even more grunt. No 340 engine should have ever been built with hydraulic...

So just how good was the A-Body back in its day?

You forgot the best non-Mopar compact of all; the 1966 L-79 350 horsepower 327 Chevy II. If it had decent bite (slicks and slapper bars) A-body 340's couldn't touch it. It was a one-year only option though, so they weren't around as new cars in 1967. And, that engine wasn't available in a...

Mopar's best engines. Your opinion and why.

That car would be an excellent roller for a turbo'd slant six... LOTS of room under the hood, if you move the battery to the trunk... and only about 20 pounds heavier than a 2-door... Cheap, too... :) Go for it!!!

Mopar's best engines. Your opinion and why.

Yes, he built the modified 383/400 block that was in John Hagen's car when he set the NHRA Pro Stock record in about 1981. Lymphoma got him in about 1996... Too bad!!! He and I were close friends.

Normally-aspirated, true... but, everything changes when you bolt a hairdryer onto one... lol! Five HUNDRED horsepower is suddenly within reach... and, that's pretty exciting, I think...

Mike, our engine is a bald-faced copy of Tom's and Ryan's engines.... Tom told us what to buy and where... without his advice and expertise, we'd still be in the dark ages! He and Ryan have actually DONE this... we are just the wannabee's trying to copy his success... Wish us luck; we...

Mopar's best engines. Your opinion and why.

Thanks for the kind words! What I meant was, the components inside this engine (the 500 hp one,) except for the 198 (virtually 7-inch) rods and piston-ring package (forged, Wiseco/K-1,) are very basic, simple parts... the cam is a flat-tappett, the rockers and pushrods are stock, and the...

Mopar's best engines. Your opinion and why.

That is a loaded question. LOL! MY own personal favorite is very different from most of your popular responses. I had a lifetime (and, I'm 74!!!) of 318's, 340's and 360's, all of which were really, really satisfying and exciting in their own way. I never had a big block, but I am sure I...

You're welcome. Remember; the opinions expressed here are mine and mine alone. Your mileage may vary... :) If you give any credence to my way of thinking, you might want to take a couple of minutes out of your day to read THIS, a long-winded diatribe on why I think the way I do...

    New Duster

If it were MY car, I'd put a single 66mm turbo on the 225 slant six using FABO member "PISHTA"'s J-pipe setup that uses the stock exhaust manifold. It's not a race setup, but will allow the slant six to breathe well enough to make enough beans to give the stock 340s and 360s fits. I...
