The "Jaundiced GT" got its original 318 rebuilt during the winter of 2021-2022. My mechanic/engine builder did a fantastic job under the hood. Ask me about PSC Liver Disease

Who knows 5.7 fault code diagnostics?

Also be aware that some fault codes are "2 trip". Meaning cold start, drive to normal operating temp, then cool down (overnight).

318 missing and stalling once warmed up and at cruise

My buddy had a 360 (in his '65 A100 truck) that ran well until it warmed up (15-20 minutes). After lots of investigating I discovered the harness to the Electronic Ignition module had been pinched/smashed when the engine was installed (by the previous owner). I made/installed an overlay...

    Which throttle/kickdown to use

My engine builder/mechanic used Lokar on my Dart GT
  9. DartGTDan

    4 Barrel Conversion

I used Lokar throttle & "kickdown" cables too, for the Edelbrock LD4B intake and Edelbrock 1406 600cfm carburetor on my car about 5 years ago. They worked so well, that my engine builder/mechanic re-used them when he rebuilt my engine last winter.

4 1/2 or 5 quarts of oil with 1/2 quart of ZZDP?

I will be changing the oil & filter in my 318 shortly. My engine builder told me to include a 16 ounce bottle of a ZZDP oil additive with the fresh oil and new filter. My question is do I use 5 quarts of oil + 1/2 quart of ZZDP additive? Or, 4 1/2 quarts of oil & 1/2 quart of ZZDP equaling 5...

Thanks for responses guys! I'll ask my builder to omit the 90* adapter.

Anyone not using the 90* oil filter adapter?

I'm looking for easier access to the oil filter on my '71 Dart GT, 318, with dual exhaust running factory exhaust manifolds. My arms don't work so good under the car so, ideally I'd be working from the top of the passenger side fender. The car has/had the 90* adapter on it and getting the...

    318 Cam Help

Engine builder took the heads/block to the machine shop. I know they added(?) hardened valve seats to run unleaded gas, but that's all I know. I'll talk to the engine builder and share what I've learned from you and @RustyRatRod. Thanks for your help

    318 Cam Help

RRR What I really want is a reliable, trouble free engine that runs on 87 pump gas. A lumpy idle would be great, but not at the expense of having to run headers, a high stall torque convertor. etc... I'm at a point in my life (health wise) where driving the Golden Oldie to a few weekly events...

    318 Cam Help

My engine builder has suggested the Comp Cams XE-250 or the XE-252. Since I'm cam "dumb" I would appreciate some guidance. Some details about the car/engine to the best of my knowledge: The machine shop performed an .030" over bore on the cylinders, polished the crank and added(?)...

Comp Cams Xtreme Energy 268 ?s

Yes Mike, I saw the multiple 268 choices. The only info I got from my builder, is "Comp Cams X-treme Energy 268 Hydraulic". It's not enough information for me (I'm cam "dumb") to say yes to using it. From all the info posted here, I'd have to make other upgrades/changes (headers, torque...

My 120,000 mile engine is getting a basic stock rebuild with a .030 overbore. Comp Cams Xtreme Energy 268 ?s

Sorry for the confusion! My '71 Dart GT's engine is the original 120,000 mile 318. It is currently in the shop, for what I was thinking was, a stock rebuild. The engine builder offered me the cam/lifters that came out of a 273. PS my car has manual brakes (SSBC front disc & factory rear drum)

Comp Cams Xtreme Energy 268 ?s

My engine builder has offered me the above mentioned cam (& matching bore lifters) that was removed from a '65 Cuda with a 273. He told me the cam wouldn't allow the Cuda's power brakes to work properly, so it was removed after about 200 miles. My 120,000 mile engine is getting a basic stock...

    School me on re-using a new(ish) camshaft

A friend put a camshaft in a 273 for a customer. After an unknown run time (I was told break-in and approximately 20 miles), it was decided the camshaft would not allow the power brakes to function properly. The customer decided to have my friend replace that camshaft with one that would allow...

Best bolt ons for a small block

On my '71 318, I started with electronic ignition (Mopar Performance kit from ManciniRacing), then added 2 1/4" dual exhaust (factory manifolds & FlowMaster 40s), then added an Edelbrock 1406 on top of an LD4B intake manifold (with Lokar "kickdown" and throttle cables). The car has the factory...

on the 318 in my '71 Dart GT as my old a$$ can't contort like I used to under the car (pinched nerve (C7), bursitis in both shoulders, etc...). The car has the 90* adaptor on it with dual exhaust using the factory exhaust manifolds. Is there more, top side (over the fender), accessibility...

    Can/should you re-use engine components?

When the 4-bbl was installed on my 318 (about 5 years/3,000 miles ago) the original timing chain and gears were replaced with a SUM-G6603 double roller chain/gears. I also had a new water pump (Cardone 8-vane) installed. The engine is going in to be rebuilt in a few weeks. Can these...

    What would you do?

I applaud your commitment in keeping the 318. Kudos to you good sir! This winter my car is going in for a rebuild of its original 318. Since I know nothing about picking parts, I'm leaving the details to my engine builder.
