    Anyone remake a stock-looking radiator?

Had mine re-cored. I build a shroud with 7 blade clutch fan and never looked back.

    Adding a Fan Shroud

I believe your theory is correct. I’m running a 190 degree stat. I drilled a 3/16” bleed hole in it. My car runs at 185-195 at cruise and 190-200 in town in 85/90 degree summer weather. Parked and off it climbs to 210 and as soon as it starts drops to 190. I also use a 7# cap and an overflow...

    Adding a Fan Shroud

My build is a 273 out .040 with a Commando++ type build. I had the stock radiator recored to a 4 row X 7/16" configuration but during my cam break-in and watching the temperature gauge I knew right away I needed a fan shroud. I just measured everything up and fabricated my own using some of the...

    Adding a Fan Shroud

Your shroud built as you describe it should work fine. I built my own shroud for my 67 Barracuda and it fits about as you describe with my clutch fan. My car runs at the thermostat temp of 190 and I can watch the stat open and close on my mechanical temp gauge.

85 amps, that's a lot of power. Let us know how it works.

    Would you paint aluminum radiator?

Black, looking through the grille you want to see nothing but black. IMHO it looks better with the hood up too. Go with a stock 3 row core replacement.

    Fan shroud questions.

I have plenty to do and re-do. I am happy with my metal shroud and it works really well. Had I seen your thread first though---- Right now I am lazer-focused on restoring my grille. It will not be stock looking when I finish with it. It is time to install the front end and the grille is first...

    Fan shroud questions.

Does your coolant hose go to the bottom of the container? I plumbed mine from the radiator to the bottom of the recovery tank and from the top of the tank to atmosphere. BTW that is some of the finest shroud fabrication I have seen! Congratulations:-)

    Embarrassing heater core question

Replace it now or weep later.

What's it cost to re-core and add a core?

I considered both, was advised by members here that brass & copper cool better than aluminum. That was a factor for me but mainly it was keeping the stock look. My top tank is pristine with all the factory tags and with my fabricated fan shroud it came out with a nice "born with" look.

What's it cost to re-core and add a core?

I paid $550 to have my 67 stock 2 row 1/2" to a 3 row 7/16" using both stock tanks.

    Fan shroud questions.

Matt: I bought crackback's kit and modified it for my install. I just integrated it into my engine bay rewire. I learned a lot about the coolant recovery deal on my Comet build. For my barracuda I measured the available space and bought a generic kit from summit. I fit it up, plumbed the...

    Fan shroud questions.

My home made steel fan shroud. Under construction and finished product. Now I can watch the stat open and close on my mechanical temp gauge. Opens @ 195, closes at 180.

    Mechanical vs Electric fans question

My car is like yours with a 273 out .040. I added a clutch fan, built my own shroud and had the radiator recored to a 3 row by 7/16". With my mechanical temperature gauge I can watch the stat open at 190 and close at 180. I would not add the problems of electric fans but that's just me.

    Heater core rebuild/renewal

Most shops wont touch them, you can buy replacement for 1/2 the cost of repair-I just went through it. Now I am going through it with my radiator:protest:

    Radiator reccommendations?

To fix my stock radiator will cost $450/$550 depending in if I go 2 or 3 row. I see I can get a Champion aluminum radiator for 1/2 that. Looking for input on if Champion radiator is a good choice. They stock an exact replacement in aluminum 2 row. TIA-DR:coffee2:
