    273 Commando - UTG

I watched UTG for a while. Then, here and there, more and more I'd think.... "well that's not right" about stuff he says. THEN.... he demonstrated a Chinese cam bearing tool. I thought to myself.... if this guy is a seasoned car guy with all kinds of experience of building cars; why in the F...

Found this 383, worth it for my 65?

Small block! Even with a small block there are challenges, but once it's in, it's all good. A big block can be defeating, especially if you aren't real experienced. Don't sabotage yourself. In the end, I think you will be much happier with a small block.

    65 Barracuda rear window glass

I had an "extra" one that I hauled around for years.... decades. Everyone says they are worth $300, so I figured I'd just hang on to it in case my rear window got broken. Then I got tired of it being in the way so I tried to sell it, starting with $300..... then $200, then $150, then...

    Throttle Cable

I heated the rod with a torch and bent it up about a half inch. That did the ticket. The gas pedal now gives full throttle to the carb. Thanks for contributing to my troubleshooting ya'll.

I'm going to do that now and then update the thread.

    Throttle Cable

After taking the photo I moved it back all the way to edge of the throttle bracket, and that gave me a little more, but I still have about a half an inch of cable that can't be accessed with the pedal. I think bending the gas pedal actuator up a little might be the ticket.

    Throttle Cable

I'm beginning to think there is something not right about my pedal assembly. With the throttle cable properly adjusted, my pedal is too close to the floor, so I'm not getting full pedal travel. If you look at the pedal assembly rod, you can see that it's been brazed. I wonder if a previous...

    Throttle Cable

I'm beginning to wonder what I have on the car now. It must be a stock 4bbl cable. It's 14" long. Maybe I just don't have it adjusted correctly. I noticed the Mancini Racing site has one for '65-'76 A body and it's 24" long. That seems way too long for a narrow body.

I think that's the ticket. I didn't realize it, but Mancini sells them.

    Throttle Cable

Yo members. I have a '64 Barracuda.... original 273 car, but now has a 340 with a Carter AVS. I'm still running the stock 2bbl throttle cable and needless to say it's not ideal. I'm looking for input on what you all are using for your early A 4bbl applications. Thanks!!!

65 Cuda Door end seal help

I bought a reproduction set of those from Detroit, and they are too thick. The door is adjusted properly, and it won't close with those seals in place. I left 'em out.... problem solved.

    66 Barracuda door panels

All three years should also be the same as a Valiant of the same years. At lest I know the '64 and '65 Barracudas are the same as the door panel from a Valiant Signet. Which I also happen to need in red.... if anyone has a set.

    Heater Box - Input Wanted

So turns out I was correct.... there are no more bolts holding the thing in. Just the four nuts around the blower motor, the screw between the heater hoses, and the rod in the fresh air chimney. The problem was the seal between the box and the chimney.... it was just hanging on. Thank you for...

    Heater Box - Input Wanted

I'm replacing the heater core in my '64 Barracuda. I've done this many times. I feel like I'm missing a bolt/nut for removing the thing tough because the box won't come out. I removed the four nuts that retain the blower motor plate. I removed the support rod from the passenger fresh air...

    Gas Pedal Conversion?

I think you may be on to something here. Yeah, the car started life as a 273 2bbl. I got a 4 bbl throttle cable, but I think the throttle bracket is the original 273 unit.

    Gas Pedal Conversion?

I have never liked the early A and B body gas pedal setup and thought there has to be a way to convert it to the later style. Has anyone ever done this? Or, do you have any input on how to improve upon this original setup? The problem I have is I don't get full use of the throttle. Limited...

    273 to 340 swap

Haha true! Somebody wakes up an old thread, then the rest of us jump in not looking at dates. Details? But it is good to have a 340 in early A thread. Make it a sticky!

    273 to 340 swap

Here's what I did. I set the 340 to TDC using the indicator cast into the timing chain cover. I installed the earlier style timing tab and marked TDC with white paint. That way I can continue to use the timing tab that came with the car. Easy!

318 Poly in an Early A Body?

With the engine, the cons out-weigh the pros... actually, I don't see any pros. Same with the transmission. 727 will be a total horepower robber for a small cube engine, in addition to a nightmare to install. You will need to do major surgery to get a 727 to fit in a narrow body. Like fklskv...

    Defrost Tubes for Narrow Body

I've been all over the heating/AC forum and didn't quite see the info I'm looking for. I have a '64 Barracuda and want to buy/fabricate defrost tubes. Here's what has me baffled: The measurements on the heater box for the tubes are 2" and 2 1/4". The vents up under the dash are both 2 1/2"...

    Exhaust system recommendations

Amazingly enough, I was able to order a complete stock replacement system for my '64 Dart (6 cylinder). I went to the local auto store and had them bust out their Wagner catalog. I'm pretty sure that was the brand. I special ordered it and it was a simple bolt in. It was inexpensive, looked...

    Commando engine in 64 Barracuda?

The Commando 273 in my opinion is the finest looking production motor. I dressed up the 340 in my '64 to look like one. I still have the tiny stock radiator, but upgraded the core to a three row. Even with that, it was a little lacking at cooling the 340, so I had to install an electric fan.
