    Edelbrock performer heads

I have them on mine. I used the studs. They’re necked down because the engine oil flows through those areas for the rocker lubrication. Now what I can’t answer is why the factory bolts won’t work but I’m guessing it has to do with the casting of the head.

440 source stroker crank pulley alignment issues.

Are these on this page what you’re looking for? Personally I don’t see shimming damper out as being a good idea but I’ve never dealt with that kind of issue myself. Crankshaft Pulleys-440 Source

    Distributor gear help needed…

Personally if it’s going to the machine shop and you have it down to that point I’d let them pull it. More than likely the lower part below the bushing is probably gummed up. But if you wanna try I’d be soaking the bushing with wd40 or pb blaster and rotating it while pulling up. The shop should...

    Positive crankcase ventilation

They have a very detailed set of destructions. You have to take some vacuum reading at the valve then the charts in the instructions tell you where to set things. It’s pretty straight forward even for me.

    Positive crankcase ventilation

On my 440 in the Demon I use an M/E Wagner adjustable pcv with a hose off the other bank to the air cleaner base to mimic the factory setup. The key is the pcv is adjustable as any upgrades will change the vacuum characteristics of the engine. The breather and hose comes in play when the pcv...

505 stroker fresh off the dyno - Power seems low? Thoughs?

Along with above on cam degree. Most of the 440 blocks I’ve dealt with the deck height is more than factory spec, and usually not square front to back. I believe the 512 kit calls for .015” below deck for pistons. Also your lash may be tight. My 440 with eddy heads is .004” - .005” difference...

    440 stroker kit interference question

This may help '67-72 A-Body B/RB Installation This shows how to locate engine in what would be a factory location Footnote #39 The positioning of the engine effects everything as far as how high it’s installed etc. What oil pan etc is being used. Some just don’t work in the A bodies. I did a...

451 Combo under a stock 1969 Dart Hood

If it helps I have a 440 With performer RPM under factory hood in my 71 Demon. 1 3/4” drop base air cleaner. Not sure what RPM air gap would be. The 400 is a little shorter than the 440.

    Replacing starter 68 Dart 440

Didn’t mention what cylinder heads. If they are factory and bolts you will have anti freeze. Personally after disconnecting battery, I’d give it a try without dealing with removing headers and steering linkage. You just “might” get lucky. I haven’t had to do the 440 starter in my Demon yet...

    440 funny sound

If it makes the noise right off after starting it I’d pull the drive belts off of the accessories and fire it up and see if it’s gone. Don’t run it too long as water pump won’t be turning.

    Head bolt kit

Hi Mike ARP’s are cheaper than the Edelbrocks, the Edelbrocks are probably reboxed ARP. I used 6 point heads on mine 145-3606 Here’s a photo of ARP’s catalog.

    Dad's 383 Engine Dyno Results

Nice build. Plenty of torque down low peak HP before 5800. Engine should live a long time. What’s he gonna install it in? Be a fun ride. It’s always nice to see the ones that help us get enjoyment themselves.

    383/71Duster

I’m running eddy rpms on my 440. They have the angled plugs. With the TTI headers the #6 is the tightest but it’s doable with a spark plug socket and box end wrench. My plugs are a 5/8”. Been a long time since I’ve messed with a stock head but I do remember the plugs being a lot tighter to...

    Duster 383 cooling issue

Do you have hood to radiator seal installed? I’m looking at the pulley kit and to me that water pump pulley looks massive diameter wise compared to crank pulley. I had looked at kits for my Demon and every one of the aluminum pulley kits underdrive the accessories. I ended up going with oem...

    Big Block fit problem

I copied this from TTI’s website. This is where they want the engine sitting for their headers which should be the factory positioning and should clear with the proper oil pan. This may or may not be your issue. A picture would be very beneficial. Good luck on your project.

Which solid roller lifter for street use

I am running solid rollers in my Demon 440. They pressure feed the roller and also thru push rods. I’ve put about 4000 miles on them. I check them in the spring and lash stays consistent. I idle at 900rpm. They are on a lunati 60331 cam if that helps. Made by BAM. Some info...

    Problems installing new pushrods!

I copied this off of Comp Cams tech for Mopar. You have the intake off so you can see the plunger in the lifter which will help you to get a “feel” for where the zero lash is and then see the preload. The preload might be different for different manufacturers. The only thing I will add, and not...

    440 frankenstein idenification help plz!

Not a thing in the world “wrong” with it. The one i put in my Demon came out of a motorhome. But all I used was the block. The low comp engines can be made to run very well based on combination of parts. IQ52 if I remember had a thread here on a low comp BB that made some very good numbers. It’s...

    440 frankenstein idenification help plz!

That block casting was used from late 75 thru the end of production. Engine blocks from 440 Source.com The 452 cast heads were a later version comparable to the 906 castings. But they had induction hardening on the valve seats. So that’s pretty much run of the mill. Trying to gauge by the...

    440... Carb or Fuel Injection?

I went with Sniper. For several reasons. Cold start, self learn, able to make adjustments on the fly, built in rev limiter and no carb boiling issues. Parts are over counter such as tps, temp sender, iac etc. It has outputs for electric fans etc plus if you have a/c it will bump idle with a/c...

Need more help re: 440 conversion from A/C to non-A/C V-belt drive

Hi Bill. The p/s pump runs by itself off the crank pulley. The w/p, alternator run together but seperate from p/s. The pulley on the w/p is for ac. You need the single groove deeper Water Pump Pulley - Non A/C - New Reproduction-440 Source And I would also do the crank pulley as a set. Double...

    Cam Opinion

Without knowing compression, in my opinion it’s a roll of the dice. If the engine was built using factory replacement parts the compression is going to be very low. The closed chambers will help some there but lot of unknowns.

RB Engine in A bodies - Air Cleaner Clearance Issues

I’m running TTI headers along with a Flaming River 16:1 manual steering box. I had the engine in and out so many times looking at clearance issues and other things I should have used wing nuts on the bolts. Would have made it quicker. I also edited my first post with the k frame etc. I also...

RB Engine in A bodies - Air Cleaner Clearance Issues

440 in my Demon. Performer RPM intake. I don’t have a picture but I did recently install the K&N Extreme top. 14”X 3” element with 1 3/4” all star drop base on the air cleaner.
