Can't be the cam, it has to be me?

Are you using offset keys? I know I had to use them on mine. I got it with in 2 degrees of what it was suppose to be.

    Bad luck again

It's always a crap shoot when you are buying a used block but 318's are a dime a dozen Look around probably pick one up from someone who did a motor swap. :worthles:

    340 Cam

I built my 340 almost the same as the article but used the 6 pack set up ( intake and carbs ) and a HEI distributor. The cam has a great sounding lope to it but is very driveable. http://youtu.be/KXoXFR9LvDg

68 dart with 340 six pack

Summit has them for around $2000.00 with carbs, intake, linkage, air cleaner. If you go with the PRO MAX system add another $500.00 for the end carb plate, center metering block, and the end jet plates. It made mine easy to dial in on the dyno.

    Compu cams XE268H question

I really like this cam. I did go with Engle 993 springs @ 1.800 installed height to help with valve float. I was looking to make more HP (It made 340) than it did, but the Tq (375) in the low RPM range is all in @ 2200 and stays level up to 6000. I'm also running a 2800 stall in a 727 with a...

Catastrophic Failure of the Camshaft Bearings

This is correct. I'm using JG XP4. After I had the motor dynoed at Top Of The Hill Performance the owner Craig Hill said to use this oil to keep the cam and tappets from wearing out. I've got about 15,000 on the rebuild with no issues.

Can the harmonic balance come loose?

Oh and here is another way to stop it rotating. Time to pull the HB bolt but no impact wrench so it just keeps rotating.....What to do??? Here is what I came up with. A bolt, flat washer, 2 feet of 3/16 chain wrapped round the sway bar.

    Comp xs282s

I'm running the Comp XS268s and it sounds great. Has a real nice thump, thump and a real nice idle, great for the street. http://youtu.be/KXoXFR9LvDg http://youtu.be/zZeph39o4U4 If you are going for strip then I would bump it up to either a XS274s or XS282s but I have heard that they...

    340 prices

I paid $800.00 for a 7/70 std bore 340 motor that was already disassembled. I ended up having the machine shop do the machine work, assemble the short block and set up the heads. With all the other goodies, Rods, Pistons, Valves, Springs, Cam, Fuel Pump, Alternator, Pulleys, and Headers I've got...

    best 340 intake?

Even with the differences it is well worth using the Magnum head for your performance or race small-block build. These heads are readily available and offer the best power potential of any factory-produced head. Intake manifolds and performance rockers are available from several aftermarket...

Is this a good deal for a 340?

.040 over is the max you can go on a 340. Also means that it will be the last rebuild on that block unless you resleeve the cylinders Big $$$. I picked up a std bore 340 for $800 and then spent $2500 on the machine work. It needed to be bored .020 over but I know that I have at least 1 more...
