I'd run just one 2 1/2 inch pipe and muffler myself. Cheaper and less weight , less weight means faster too

Back in the 70's there weren't many performance mufflers , the thrush were cheap and did help performance. In their day they were the best alternative short of going open headers. And so what they were light that doesn't mean they didn't work:finga:

A small clearancing ding won't hurt your performance , if you were worried about performance you would have bought full length headers. And no one is ever gonna see the ding any way. I would have atleast tried double aluminum percy's gaskets before I sent them back. Old cars are a pain and...

Personally I would have modified the headers to fit, then at least it would be done and on the engine. Now you are in limbo for an unknown time

If you look into the block they are worse there. I did a port job my adapter before putting it on. I like having a bigger filter myself

I put my headers on with the mounts off the car and after getting the headers on installed the mounts, just a thought still trying to help:hello2:

Have you tried installing just the left side only with the steering box installed?

You would have had to jack up the motor off the mounts and it would be repositioned when doing so:hello2:

I have big tube hookers on my 69 340 dart and they are tight on the ps side but they do fit with out hitting anything. I'd say it must be caused by the motor mounts Not to sound stupid but you did take the drag link apart and put it thru the headers , just fishing for an answer not saying...
