I Need One of These... It Leaks!!

Yep, heater controll valve. Most auto stores can get it for ya. As a side note......73 Dodge Power Wagon uses a HCV that is cable operated, and 90 Dodge Power Ram uses a vacuum controlled HCV if anyone ever needs one for an "add on" device. George

    68 Dart Heater Core Replacement

Only seal I can think of goes between the box halves. Factory used some kind of dum-dum to seal it up. I think that dum-dum is called "rope seal", and it's available at Home Depot. Easy job. Take your time, clean the inside of the box out while it's out of the car. George

After A/C Add On Engine Overheats Really Bad

Yes, they did and you're right; engineers knew what they were doing. I only ran the car without the 'stat when I first put it together to ensure I got all the water in the system, and all the air out of it. Car runs a 180 'stat now, mainly because I drive it until the first snow, and I like...

After A/C Add On Engine Overheats Really Bad

Sounds like there's air trapped in the cooling system. If so, it'll create steam, and that will make the engine run HOT. Fan shroud is a MUST. Nothing wrong with a flex fan. I have a 11.5-1 compression 440 that runs so cool, if I run it without the thermostat, the gauge won't move from the...

    $40 for a can of Freon? I think /not/.

1990 Dodge pickup. Drained out the R12 slowly as not to lose any oil, changed the fittings and refilled it with Envrioseal and it blows at 38º. Thats plenty cold for me. Once the air temp reaches 32º, the evaporator will freeze up, and it won't cool anymore until the ice melts. I didn't change...

    hooking up expansion tank?

The Harrison expansion tank you posted a picture of is a Corvette part. The 2 large nipples connect (in line) to the heater core inlet hose. Of the 2 small ones on top; the one under the filler cap is an overflow, and the other one connects to a similar nipple that is on top of the radiator as...

Hot but Stable - Clutching at Straws

Is the radiator aluminum or copper/brass? If it's the right size for the application it won't matter too much, but an aluminum radiator will cool much more efficiently than a copper/brass of the same size. What are the dimensions of the radiator? Rodding out the radiator will help, but there's...

    Water Pump Hookups

Install the hoses (both of them) to the heater core. Then, cross them as they run to the water pump. Then hook them to the fittings. If they cross on their route from the heater box to the water pump, you have them hooked up correctly. What do you mean by "temperature sensor inlet"? George

    Intake Manifold Heater Hose Connection

After what I saw you do with that racecar in such a short time, yes, you are a pro! The car freakin RUNS, too. :burnout: Lemme get this straight......you need a 5/8" hose nipple with 1/4" pipe threads, correct? I could weld something up for you for free if I know exactly what you need. I...

    Intake Manifold Heater Hose Connection

I'm not trying to argue with a pro like yourself, but are you sure about that? I have never seen a heater hose that is 1/2" I.D. before. Heck, guys run 1/2" I.D. fuel line. Hardly any coolant would flow to the heater core with a hose that small. Geo

    Intake Manifold Heater Hose Connection

Jeff, Are you needing the nipple that screws into the intake? 1/2" pipe thread is the size needed for the nipple. The heater hose itself is 5/8". The 5/8" hose will slip over the 1/2" pipe nipple. I just did all this crap on my Dart. I used 1/2" X 3" close nipples from Home Depot for the...

    Heater box seal kit?

Ya can't beat a DMT kit. The thing is dead-on balls accurate in every way, and the owner is one hell of a nice guy. I believe he is a member here too. George

radiator. what should i shop for?

Aluminum radiators can also use wider tubes that create more surface contact area from the tubes to the fins and helps dissipate the heat quicker. Most aluminum radiators use 1” wide tubes and some manufacturers like Griffin offer 1.25” and 1.5” tubes as well. Traditional...

radiator. what should i shop for?

Aluminum radiator will cool MUCH better (more efficiantly) than a copper/brass unit of the same size. Aluminum has better heat transfer properties, and most alum radiators have much larger tubes than copper/brass units. You are limited to 22" wide in an A Body due to the size of the opening in...

    cooling trouble

Sounds like air in the system turning to steam and expanding. I always start a new motor without the thermostat and run it like that. When you get time in the future, install the stat. Good Luck. George

    stat gasket

Snake, Yes, the stock thermostat housing has a releif in it for the thermostat. If you're using a stock housing, install the thermostat in the housing first, then install (use sealant here) the gasket onto the housing. Once it's dry enough to stay together, install it on the intake manifold...

    Heater box cables.

Jeff- I think I got it figured out buddy. Once I had the heater box on the floor of the car it kinda became apparent. On the control end, I put the 2 shorter yellow ones on the top, and the longer red one on the bottom for temp control. Thanks for those clips you sent! I couldn't have...

    Heater box cables.

69 Dart, no A/C. I have 3 control cables from the control panel to the heater box. 2 are marked yellow and are the same length. 1 is marked red and is longer than the other 2 yellow ones. The service manual says nothing about what cables attach to where. Anyone help me out here? How do they...

    Another What's it worth

No sweat here. I'm NOT looking for any numbers on this car, just looking for a radiator for my 440 Dart that looks like a Mopar radiator. I've seen new ones on eBarf that will work for me for about $200 and I'll probably go with one of those and sell the Be Cool one I have. As far as worth on...

I'd be interested more if there was a price listed abd a picture or two of it. I have a Be Cool in my car now which works perfectly, but I don't like the way it looks. George

    Thermostat 160 or 180?

A thermostat controlls MINIMUN operating temp only, not MAXIMUM. It will run at the same temperature with either thermostat installed. George

    A/C temp

Should be about 10º cooler. Check the heater control valve in the heater hose to make sure it is closing all the way. If it isn't working properly it will keep the A/C from getting cold enough. Chrysler A/C systems were designed to blow between 38-42º, but I don't remember what year cars that...

    A Body Radiator Interchangeability

****, I spent almost $400 getting my original recored this past February. If you aint concerned about numbers, that piece John posted is REAL nice. If you use a 26" rad and the rad support cutout is only 22" wide, I don't think you would have a problem with cooling, 1969GTS, BUT a fan shroud is...

    Heater Hose Clamp Problem

I bought a repro clamp kit from Quicksilver Classics (or is it Diecast?) on eBay, and all the clamps helt tight as a drum except the bypass hose clamps. I thought it was a little loose when I put them on but didn't give it a second thought....until the bypass hose blew off the water pump about 6...

Interesting update on "crappy" repro fan shrouds

You can epoxy some spacers to the back side of the shroud and be OK. The bolt will hold it in place once it's installed. George

Interesting update on "crappy" repro fan shrouds

Interesting note on the color 340Sfastback; the shroud in my car is an original Mopar part, although it is from a 70+ 340 car, and it has this "gray-ish" color to the plastic. Don't get me wrong, it's black, but if you really look at it and compare it to the black paint on the radiator, it is a...
