Any advice on my 440 recipe?

Anybody ever drive a Dart with a 340 that made 340 lb-ft @ 3,200 rpm and 275 HP @ 5,000 rpm? Ah no fun there right?

Any advice on my 440 recipe?

I have a question. Would a 7.5:1 compression 440 that made 427 lb-ft @ 2,500 rpm and 287 hp @ 4,400 rpm be any fun in a Dart with a 2,500 stall converter using 3.73 gears and 275/60/15 tires? I think (just my BS talking) what he has on the drawing board will make more than that.

    906 flow

I never saw any of Eric's videos until this morning. Interesting results on the 906 CNC 2.14//1.81, the 902 hand ported 2.25/1.81, the hand ported 452 (with 2.055/1.60 valves?), must have left Chevy valves on the parts list 'cause the 452 valves should be 2.08/1.74 stock. On a 8.9:1 440 with...

how much cam with performer rpm heads?

Physically able to handle........I've run as much as .815" with the stock exhaust valves and guides......using seals, springs, retainers and locks for the big roller cam. I don't think they'll flow too good up there without some porting. But.....I don't recollect ever tesing the stock OOTB...

I think I would call the machine shop and ask them what they want you to bring.

Cody's 440....RRR is off the hook.

So after a year or two of running his cheapo <8:1 compression 440 he likes it so much the stroker engine is abandoned and the 440 stays.

Cam button / stock timing chain cover

Many people reinforce and use the stock timing cover, I did once, and then switched to this............ AREngineering timing cover It is the only cover I would use now in a MOPAR big block roller cam application.

    906 or 915 ?

The OP says stock looking with under chassis headers. This isn't a concourse restoration. So it seems there is some leeway in what happens to this GTS. Stock looking would even allow a stroker kit. One thing to remember if 'stock looking' includes a year correct stock factory cast iron intake...

    906 or 915 ?

In your case I'd probably have a set of Stealths prepped and use them. Never run any aftermarket head right out of the box. If you must use stock iron you'll probably have the same money in them as prepped Stealths. Design the engine for whichever heads, compression ratio and fuel you decide to...

    906 or 915 ?

Boy I'd sure like to but it sits w/o an engine right now. I gotsta build a 440 for Cody's Mopurban and then one for the '73 Charger and then we'll have one for Tetanus and it'll be back on the road.

    906 or 915 ?

Hey! Tetanus was a '72 DEMON with '70 Duster front fenders. And remember it is famous. It got the Popular Hot Rodding unofficial award for the 'Ugliest car at Mopars At The Strip' some 10 years back. The YouTube video was with the 500"/440 and that was 696 RWHP. We did use the same cam in the...

    906 or 915 ?

The 906 will see a benefit from installing a larger exhaust valve. It greatly improves the short side of the port coming off the valve. The Trick Flow has such a better exhaust port than the 906 it can use a smaller valve effectively. We did a dyno test on a 8:1 compression 440 where we all we...

Porting DC Stage IV iron heads

The development time for the good heads took him approximately two months of work. It included destroyed heads before finishing the good ones. The amount of my time on valve jobs with various valve sizes and the flowbench testing each variation after he gave the head to me isn't even in the...

Porting DC Stage IV iron heads

Around here the reasons for quitting iron, and really all porting work, were multiple. Time involved. Mental stress because just good wasn't good enough. It had to be better than good. Mostly the physical pain involved in the wrists and arms was crippling. And those 906 heads are still on the...

    Mopar 400

I've never built a 450 HP 400 engine. So therefor I haven't set out to design a 400 for 450 HP. I don't design engines for free but I have no qualms about listing the parts in engines I have previously built and tested for myself or seen what others have posted. Not trying to be jerk. Just most...

Proposed 400 bb build, cam recommendations

I was thinking the Mopar Muscle Magazines of February and March 2012 would have more information. Alas no. They have somewhat longer write-ups on the 361, 383 & 400 engines used in the contest but not much more detailed information. Some of the engines were pulled to 8,000 rpm......some survived...
