    8 1/4 vs. 8 3/4

No, we had a 727, full manual reverse valve bodied transmission & a B&M 3500 RPM converter. Ran 11:57 at 117mph on street tires, closed exhaust & 100-130 Avgas back in 1984 with a 160lb 8D battery in the spare tire well.

    8 1/4 vs. 8 3/4

FWIW: In 1982 we built A 13:1 69 340 Dart. This thing spun to 7800RPM on a regular basis & saw a lot of street action. We assembled a 5:10 geared 8-1/4. It lasted all of 2 weeks. We replaced it with a 4:88 geared 8-3/4. That rearend was still in the car when I sold it.

Anyone running a th400 in their a body?

Junior636: As far as the 400 vs 727 is concerned, it's your car. You build it how you see fit. You are right, the 400 is a cheaper build. And if it grenades it'll be cheaper to replace [win-win] GM stuff always costs less. Save some cash on the trans & that frees up cash to spend elsewhere. BTW...

    dual batteries

I'm assuming you have a trunk mounted battery. When I was racing in the 80's I had the same issue. Instead of using a second battery, I bought a size 4DLT bus battery & installed it in the spare tire compartment, where it fit almost like it was meant to go there. Where the best Exide orbital...

Anybody using 273 adjustible rockers their drag car???

Back in the 80's I ran the 273 rockers on my 12.5 to 1 340. I had a Crane 585/585 solid lifter camshaft & my shift point was at 7800RPM. I didn't have any issues with the friction fit adjusters.

    Aluminum or Magnesium?????

Take a sharp knife & scrape a couple of very small shavings from the inside of the cover. Then take a propane torch to the shavings. If the shavings flare up, it's magnesium.

    Trunk mount battery cable???

10 - 12 gauge is way too small for any battery cable.

    Trunk mount battery cable???

The problem had to be elsewhere. I've used welders cable on several dirt track cars & on a high compression 340 without any problems at all. I assume you ran your ground to the frme rail at the back. it's possible that you didn't have it grounded well enough or that the chassis to motor ground...

    Trunk mount battery cable???

This may be overkill but I've always used 0 gauge welder's cable.
