    Cars that sit awhile.

Yeah, I had a cheap cover that got shredded over the years. I’m sure This Holley needs at least a basic cleaning and a needle and seat. The accelerator pump is stuck too. This is usually from gunk in the passage. I’ve put this stuff in the tank… If it is working, it isn’t doing enough. I’ve...

    Cars that sit awhile.

I know that I’m not the only one like this. Car guys will sometimes have more than one of the cars they like. I’ve seen it across all models of cars too… VW dudes that have 4 Beetles and a van, Ford guys with two Mustangs and a Torino. We Mopar guys do it too. This often means we have cars that...

Who has had good experiences with the Brawler series of carburetors?

If you can find that, it is the best plan. Some claim the ethanol mix has octane higher than the rating on the gas pump, just something to consider. All I can get at the pump is ethanol infused, "up to 10%" is on the sticker. If I cycle through the gas frequently enough, it seems fine except for...

Who has had good experiences with the Brawler series of carburetors?

The ethanol really screws with these cars that sit awhile. That is the problem that I've had...I start working on some car and get distracted and then, it sits....Months later, I go to drive it and many times it runs terrible if at all. The Dart has a leaky and weak accelerator pump shot. It...

Who has had good experiences with the Brawler series of carburetors?

It looks like Quick Fuel carries the Brawler line of carburetors. It surprises me that they look so much like the Holleys and aren't being sued for it. The Barry Grant carburetors had many Holley style components but at least they fancied up the float bowls and used an anodized cover for the...

Who has had good experiences with the Brawler series of carburetors?

That is nice of you to say but it is more of a fun dirt trail beater like the General Lee....1.03 torsion bars, 1.25" front sway bar, 6 stage leaf springs, 3/4" rear bar set up for fun off road. I love dirt drifting in this thing, it hangs the 4.10 SG axle out quite nicely on dirt. I've...

Who has had good experiences with the Brawler series of carburetors?

Carburetor tuning is something I still need improvement with. I have messed around with jets and power valves but beyond that, I haven’t done much. I’d be happy if the engine would just run reasonably smooth and make decent power. For now, I’m not looking to squeeze out the last inch of...

Who has had good experiences with the Brawler series of carburetors?

I’ve been a Holley guy for years. I like their simplicity and interchangeability. They sure have gone up in price though. I see these Brawlers that look like Holleys. The Roadkill guys have used them on project cars too. I’m in need of a good 600 cfm single feed 4 barrel for my 67 Dart. I...

    Rebuilding a Holley 600

The part number on the side should differ. The first two boxes the guy brought out were the same size and shape but were heavier and over four times the price.

    Rebuilding a Holley 600

The man brought out two boxes prior that were the same size but heavier, they had more stuff in the boxes. Those were $184 each at the store. I didn't open either of these yet. I'll post up pictures tomorrow along with the part numbers.

    Rebuilding a Holley 600

My aging eyeballs NEED extra light, that is for sure. I have some strong reading glasses to use too. Yes, that was Tognotti's on Fulton. I like to buy locally when I can rather than to order from Summit.

    Rebuilding a Holley 600

It has been awhile since I did a full rebuild on a carburetor. I’ve changed jets, power valves, metering blocks, accelerometer pump cams and such but it has been years since I did a full tear down. I have these cars out back: They both have mild 360s with the most basic of all Holley...

Note about parts store rebuilt carbs

I have had excellent luck with rebuilt alternators and power steering pumps. I've has spotty luck with NEW mini starters. For carburetors, I've dealt with a guy in town that ran his own Carburetor shop. He does a good job.

    Disappointing dyno results

What the OP may have done is not being expressed clearly here. I have degreed cams that came in within the specs while also being at the "dot to dot" marks on the timing set. I have a Lunati solid in my Charger that met the 106 centerline with the timing marks at the "dot to dot" mark. At a...

Burning real rich after winter storage

If this is the same gas that was in the car when you parked it, the gasoline has lost it's punch. Gasoline evaporates much faster today than it did 20 years ago. What evaporates first is the parts of the gas that give it octane. As gas evaporates, it gets thicker and darker in color. Gas here...

What happened to gasoline in the mid 1970s?

I mentioned this in post # 3. The smog/air pump wasn't meant to dilute the exhaust, it was to mix fresh air to the exhaust to create a chemical reaction, raise the exhaust temperature to burn more completely. Catalytic converter science improved dramatically since 1975 too. High flow converters...

What happened to gasoline in the mid 1970s?

You could still get 88 octane leaded gas until the early 90s in parts of California. I lived in Carmichael and a new ARCO station had 88 leaded, 87 unleaded and 92 Super unleaded. Later they reduced the 92 to 91.

What happened to gasoline in the mid 1970s?

You are in the ball park. THere was a long road of learning what worked, what didn't and how it all developed. The stories that I hear...... Air pollution controls started in the late 60s. PCV systems had no impact on performance but did help some. Air injection into the exhaust stream was...

    1967 Dart fuel tank

Here is the gas that came out of the second tank. Another friend had a very clean tank he pulled from a car that he is building for the 24 hours of LeMons! I blew out the fuel line, installed the clean tank and put 2 gallons in. Fuel is clean and the car runs great....for a total of $20!
