Your opinion please on a Ypipe variation

I would like to see how the car would run with all the exhaust routed out through the atmospheric pipe, (open headers) and carb/timing adjusted for it. I guess the bottom line is we believe that with the right tuning, an open exhaust will create more horsepower than a restricted exhaust. Is it...

Your opinion please on a Ypipe variation

Trying to picture square exhaust tubing... I guess it would work. Seems like the square walls might cause some drag? It would seem that round pipe would cause a cyclonic flow?

Wow my bad, LOL. I should have gotten it the first time:)

Your opinion please on a Ypipe variation

We are not able to manufacture it at this time. I am hoping to get enough positive responses to get a manufacturer/company to consider partnering with us. My business partner (who actually builds the prototypes) and I love to look at something and figure out how to improve it, and being...

Your opinion please on a Ypipe variation

Replicaracer43, When I used to take my 68 Roadrunner to the drags back in the 70's, I would unbolt the exhaust from the header collectors and roll it up as far as I could then rebolt it with one bolt to give open headers. Then redo everything to go home. I get what your saying, but it seems it...

Your opinion please on a Ypipe variation

DIYmirage, I have tried to picture how reversing the design would work. It would be like the Ramchargers setup. Also the huge hole is what we have eliminated from the original design. We simply have given the consumer the opportunity to have a short, complete, 100% exhaust route to the...

Your opinion please on a Ypipe variation

DFX, The Ramchargers system looks pretty turbulent to me. When the exhaust hits those end caps, it has to go somewhere. I don't think there is a boundry layer that forms at the Y. Maybe i'm wrong, but I picture water instead of air (since I can picture it) and water being shot down those pipes...

Your opinion please on a Ypipe variation

Well, I believe that getting the exhaust out to the atmosphere quickly and with velosity would improve the scavenging. When you have just the cutout uncapped, (like original) you lose velosity and the flow gets lazy. I believe especially in turbocharged applications getting the exhaust out...

Your opinion please on a Ypipe variation

1st off we are not selling these. We are looking for a company/manufactuer to carry our designs forward but we are not intending to manufacture. That being said, Is this something that picks your interest? Does it have merit in your eyes? https://youtu.be/XbfW6JpXA3s

    Practice mufflers

So do we have any sound clips yet? I really want to hear how they sound on a muscle car!

If you have electric exhaust cutouts

Could anyone with this style of motor on their electric cutouts, check and see if there are any manufacturing or model numbers on the motors? I would like to be able to find the manufacturer and buy this style of motor for some experimentation. thanks.

Summit headers and "half dummy" zoomie pipes

If I recall the Street Zoomies from the 70's/80's exited in front of the rear wheels, not behind the front wheels. Wow you obviously don't live in communist Kalifornia...

    Arizona emissions testing

So your saying there is no year limit? So every car in those two counties, that ever came with some form of smog equipment has to have it in place and operational?

????? What ain't big enough? lol

Has any one tried this yet

Well, we have patent pendings on a new muffler and cutout design based on guiding the exhaust flow rather then blocking it and forcing it to find its path of least resistance, aka the butterfly. We hope to have some demos out by the beginning of next year, to see enthusiasts reaction. I will say...

Has any one tried this yet

Wow, I must say i'm not impressed by BBK's new technology. So you have to crawl under the car to wrench a bolt head in or out to plug or unplug the muffler? X 2? Also realize your still not getting pure straight pipe flow as some of the exhaust is still going out the original pipe. Which is the...

    Cutouts?

What were the negative comments on Doug's and Qtp? I have the earlier version of Doug's on my B'Cuda and have liked them. I think the butterfly design is antiquated.

What is the most common exhaust pipe diameter on enthusiasts cars?

My main point to the question was to make sure I was thinking correctly that 2.5" exhaust was probably the most common size coming off headers/manifolds on V8's. It got a little off track, so I gave the reason why I asked for opinions. With tooling costs so high. decisions need to be right the...

What is the most common exhaust pipe diameter on enthusiasts cars?

So if I were to design a new style exhaust cutout, 2.5" would probably be the first tooling, since it could cover the most applications. You could expand a smaller diameter pipe to 2.5" and then back down, without much if any loss to flow or pressure and a 2.75" or 3" could be necked down to...

What is the most common exhaust pipe diameter on enthusiasts cars?

I guess my thought is not to get scientific, just what does everyone think the most common size used is. I probably should just start a poll. If there isn't one already.

What is the most common exhaust pipe diameter on enthusiasts cars?

True Rumblefish, but how many typical car people get that specific?

What is the most common exhaust pipe diameter on enthusiasts cars?

Is 2.5" the most common for V8's? What does a 4cyl/6cyl use these days? The reason I ask, is I have a patent pending exhaust modification and need to make sure I choose the most desirable/common diameter to start out with for tooling purposes and sales. then if it is deemed popular/profitable...

Open headers vs any muffled system

I guess my question is, does anyone not like the sound of open headers? If you had the option of having both open and closed exhaust would you be for it? I know about the electric exhaust cutouts, but they still don't deliver a true open header sound. They sound better then mufflers, but still...

Open headers vs any muffled system

It seems no one can agree on which muffler design sounds best. Do most of us agree that open headers sound awesome? I have never had a open headered race car go idling by at a drag strip and heard people say, boy i wish they'ed get some mufflers on that thing... Or when a rod rumbles by with the...

    Hooker header poor design

I had a similar dilemma with oversized ports on my modified T/A heads. The hooker headers port on both the 1 5/8's and 1 3/4's headers have the same size opening for stock exhaust port. The 1 3/4 tubes just open up once they leave the flange area. I had to buy the heddmen hustlers 1 7/8's tube...

Custom Headers from existing Hustler Headers?

I would not do it myself. I was hoping a fabricator could use the materials. I guess the main cost is probably the labor huh?

Custom Headers from existing Hustler Headers?

I've got a brand new set of Small block A body Heddman Hustler 1" 7/8 headers. My question is, Since I really don't want to cut holes in the fenderwell for one tube each side, could a custom header maker use a good amount of these headers and save me some money? Or is this just wishful thinking...
