    Steel wheel back space

For what it's worth, Stockton Wheel made me some 10" wide, 15" wheels w/ 8" back space for the '67 Coronet 8-3/4 in my '71 Swinger. Tires are 275/60-15. Car has springs relocated inboard and mini tub. Had to make a bracket to encourage the hand brake cables to miss rubbing the wheels. Photos...

so what is the best balancing method

Dynamic (moving) balance is clearly superior to static (stationary) balance. The wider the tire, the the more pronounced the difference becomes. A tire that is dynamically balanced is automatically statically balanced but a tire that is statically balanced is not necessarily dynamically...

Tallest tire fitment on rear of Scamp

Clarification to my earlier post... If your 'junk' wheel has a different backspacing than your 'Summit' wheel and/or the wheel width is different, be sure to move the plate to the proper side by a distance equal to the difference between the center of each wheel when mounted to the axle so...

65 4 door dart tallest rear tire

I'm replacing the 7-1/4 with an 8-3/4 and also wondered about fitting tall tires. Since I need a new drive shaft anyway, I was thinking about asking the local spring shop if it would be practical to modify the main leafs by moving the center bolt holes 'back' 1". Then, assemble the springs with...

Tallest tire fitment on rear of Scamp

No need to buy a test tire. Go to "tirerack.com" find the drawing where you figure out tire dimensions. Lay out the dimensions on a steel plate and weld the plate to an old junk rim. Bolt in place and rotate with a jack under the pumpkin and some weight in the trunk.

    aluminum wheel trick

I made a similar discovery... For bare aluminum wheels that have no protective clear coat, spray them quickly and uniformly with "Oil Eater" cleaner (available at Kragens). Keep them wet. Scrub a little with a sponge if you want to. Hose off. The aluminum will look new. I shoot it in my...
