    Proportioning Valve Problems

Today I replaced the rear brake hose and PROBLEM SOLVED. The hose on the car(which was replaced around 2005) was blocked. Upon removal I was just able to get air to go through it. After repeatedly trying to clear the line with compressed air eventually no air would pass through it. It definitely...

It got a new one back in `05-ish but most of this "new" stuff is not worth dirt, so it may have already lived its life.

    Proportioning Valve Problems

I'm resurrecting this old thread because I cranked up the car the other day and it is doing exactly what the OP described here. I've done the same thing as far as bleeding the pressure off. Before I do anything with the car I would love to hear some opinions as to what you guys think might be...

Using mustang rotors for 4.5" bc

I'm glad to see you guys taking this modification and expounding on it. Cutting the seal to match the original diameter is great. Please continue to add your ideas.

Yes that could be done but I think it's just easier and less time consuming for the machinist to tap straight down into the hub to create the new race seat. Yup Bob, at $300.00 that machinist you found must be quite proud of his work.

I believe Hotrod USA or another one of those brake companies sell a kit that retrofits onto the 10" drum brake spindles.

Sorry I can't help you when it comes to recommending a machine shop in your area but if you read through this thread you'll find a few things that people have encountered with the swap. All things said and done it has been a relatively easy, inexpensive, and effective way of getting the 4.5"...

    Drums to Disc

I agree, the single piston design was probably a cost-cutting measure by Chrysler. They actually lost about 25% of the braking surface by going to the single piston design. The four-piston KH is IMO a better system than the later single piston design but (as mentioned) must be kept active as the...

    Brake shoe question

Man, I think I'm losing it. I could swear when I read this, it was about the emergency brake????? Sorry! Anyway, I've seen a few with those pins and some without. It may just depend on the manufacturer.

    Brake shoe question

All of the sets I've bought included that horseshoe clip. I would have the retailer check other boxes to see if those include the clip. If they have stopped including the clip then you'll just have to remove the old one very carefully and reuse it.

Looking good, excellent pictures. I like your choice of wheels. It's great to hear what sort of trials people encounter doing this modification. It seems everybody has to do a little tweaking on some part, somewhere, to get them to work correctly with their application. Thanks for the update.

How did the older guy do Milehigh? I don't understand that you guys can't find machinists to do this job. I stood and watched the guy that did mine and it only took him about an hour to do both rotors. Go figure?

    4" to 4.5"

Mark, how long ago was that done? 2006? I contacted Moser about doing a set for me about 3 years ago. They said that they no longer do that modification due to the fact that the machine they used to do it, had been replaced by another (more money making) machine.

    4" to 4.5"

I`ll be glad to help you. What I meant by that comment is that since you are in France, you don`t have junkyards that have an abundance of 73-76 A-bodies to salvage parts from. Not only that but when buying new parts, many companies will not ship abroad.

    4" to 4.5"

Hotrodsusa once carried a Wilwood kit for discs to discs. They may still have them. (?) Remember though, any of the new kits are going to be probably 3-4 times the expense of the alternatives described here.

    4" to 4.5"

There are a few methods you can implement to go from the 4" bc to 4.5". For the front you can choose one of these: 1) As already stated you can find a 73-76 A-body donor car and swap the the spindles, UCAs, rotors and calipers onto your car. 2) Buy a set of wheel adapters, about 40 dollars...

Yes, you should have the Kelsey-Hayes system. Original calipers will often have a KH cast into them.

Car pulls to left when braking

Make sure you put the shoes on correctly, if they`re reversed it may cause them to stick which could result in the car pulling to that side.

sbp wheels cause high brake temp?

I`ve never heard of brakes cooling better based on the diameter of the bolt pattern??? I`m not quite sure what your buddy may be referring to. The only thing I can think of is the A-body 8.75"`s come equipped with 1.75" shoes. If you went with alternate backing plates and the later model big...

    Early Disc Brake ?

Are you sure it`s not the wheel bearing adjustment? If not, as mentioned earlier, these brakes have a tendency to have sticky caliper pistons when not used daily. I had one that would stick within a week if I didn`t drive the car.

Using mustang rotors for 4.5" bc

It`s subjective whether going to the 2 piston (73 and up) brakes are actually an upgrade from the four piston KH brakes. Most people, (myself included) will argue that the KH 4 piston caliper is the better system. With that being said, the majority of people looking for the large bolt pattern...
