Who runs a six pack 340?

340s have always seemed to like more carburetion than what they were born with. One of the early mods for the 68/69 340s was to put a 440 carb on. I run a big block with a six pack and I find it to be a nice way of getting the available carburetion you may need while still maintaining a lot of...

HELP rebuild my carter or buy new eddie ?????? 340

I would rebuild the AVS you have. They're easy to do, the kits are readily available, and they are for the most part very dependable. The 68 340 carb is a 625cfm, but if you are looking for bolt-on performance you can find the same carb for a 68 440. It's one of the oldest performance...

    Looking for better fuel milage

340/372 whatever it takes.......ala Mr. Mom :toothy7: All joking aside Tony, even at 372 cubes; with the proper components and a tuning that synchronizes everything to its full potential, I believe you can increase your MPG by 50% or more. Even on my 500 c.i. engine the vacuum advance added...

I agree, I think 20 mpg is an attainable goal in a 340 A-body without extreme modifications.

    Looking for better fuel milage

Tony, with aluminum heads you can run much higher compression without worrying about detonation with pump gas. 10-1 would not be out of the question. Invest in a distributor with a vacuum advance, that way you can get the advance in the timing at various throttle positions. This is especially...

    Looking for better fuel milage

Is your intake a dual plane or single? A dual plane will give you better driveability and torque down low. If you're going to do the tour you'll want your car as street friendly as possible.

    Looking for better fuel milage

That is low vacuum for that cam. Vacuum advance will help a lot on the street. You can easily fit a taller tire (27") in those wheelwells. Try sealing your air cleaner tightly to the hood so all the air coming in your scoop is forced into it.

    Looking for better fuel milage

Headers might help, might not. I agree with Wildcat, try an Edelbrock 650. I think you'll see a significant difference from that double pumper. Make sure you have a good front end alignment and no overtightened wheel bearings or brakes dragging. Maximum tire pressure and larger diameter rear...

Gas tank installation 69 cuda fastback

When I did my Dart, I sort of worked in the neck simultaneously with raising the tank into place. You probably don`t want to lower it down again but it`s quite easy when you do two at once.

    clean my fuel tank? (newbe)

Some tanks are more model and year specific than others. Maybe the inexpensive one is made in China.(?)The good reproductions are made in Canada. You might want to check with the retailer and find out where the items are made and then use that information when making your decision.

    clean my fuel tank? (newbe)

Yeah, you`ll probably need to clean it and replace the screen on the sending unit/pickup if the car has sat any real length of time.

    Carter 750?

Weren`t the 440 AVS`s 725 or 750cfm? One of the first mods a lot of guys would do to their 68/69 340`s was to swap out the 340 AVS for a 440 AVS.

    rear mounting twin turbos

I saw a 2009 Hemi Challenger at a local car show last summer. It had twin turbos mounted in the rear. I didn`t see exactly how it was plumbed but I saw his time slips, low 10 second 1/4 mile times. It was one bad *** Challenger, and at the end of race day while all of the other guys were...

    Looking for possible carb recommendations...

That`s a good idea yellowdartdave. I agree, the Thermoquad spreadbore carb would be excellent if you want to prowl the street. Then when you need a little something extra those huge secondaries will get you there. If you don`t have the original carb, a simple carb that`s pretty much plug in and...

I need help, Intake with EGR?

I believe the factory manifolds left that opening exposed so it should be correct as it is. Something else you may consider is that your intake looks like a single plane manifold and if you plan on using your car on the street primarily, then you might consider trading it out for a good dual...

    Carb not getting Fuel

Your fuel pump at 3 pounds sounds low, most pumps I`ve read are in the 6-7 pound range. You still might want to check to see if your new pump is the proper one and if it`s pumping like it should. You can also check for leaks in the fuel line, a clogged fuel filter, or that the tank is vented...

    buy new or rebuild

Those carbs are relatively easy to rebuild. The kit and cleaning solution will probably cost you less than 50 dollars whereas a factory rebuilt unit has to be well over 100 dollars. You might try advertising here for a good used one. I had a good one I sold here for 25 dollars, there may be...

    vacuum lines (proper hook up)

Andy ,check to see which one of the vacuum ports on your carb is NOT pulling vacuum at an idle. You can feel a draw by putting your finger over the port. That`s the correct line for your vacuum line to the distributor. The car`s idle should NOT increase when you hook up the vacuum advance.

    New Carb problems

Spring for the throttle lever adapter as pictured on JohnnyDarts car. That will reorient the linkage back to it`s proper position. Great link C130 Chief!

    New Carb problems

I would get the slide pin for the kickdown linkage from your original carburetor and install it on this carburetor if at all possible. That way the linkage and accelerator cable will be as close to their original positions as possible. You probably have something binding between the two.

    Rough idle Carter AVS

Drill it out. A left hand bit would be the optimal thing if you can find one, that way when you punch through the lead and hit the screw head it doesn`t grab and twist it in any further.

    Original T/A Six Pack?

I`ve got a big block stroker with a six pack and I love it. If you had to buy the new stuff you`d have to spend a couple grand for everything so I think if that`s the way you want to go then 1200 dollars isn`t so bad. The carbs will likely all need to be rebuilt but that`s not a big deal. I...
