    Thermoquad on Air Gap

I ran a thermoquad on my Performer RPM manifold with the 1" adaptor but I opened up the hood and installed the dual snorkle scoop. Doing this will give you more air cleaner options. I ran a 10 x 3 K&N extreme filter but with alittle more opening you could go 11" diameter. You'll also have to...

508 or 509 Purple Shaft cam

I'd say it's a very rough & mean sounding idle. :D Ran the MP508 in my 340-4psd-4.10 SpaceDuster.

Oil viscosity - why the 20W-50 BS?

Lighter oils like 5W-30 or 10W-30 are fine for most applications but I wouldn't recommend it for long trips in 95 degree heat on a high performance motor turning around 3000 + rpm steadily on the highway. It kinda turns to the viscosity of water from my experience. LOL!

Get a mini-starter as a factory style starter won't last long on a car with headers.

    Trouble Timing my 340

On my old 1973 Duster 340-4spd with 4.10's I ran 22 degrees intial and 36 degrees total all in by 2200 rpm. My 340 had the MP508 cam and 7" vacuum is normal for that cam.

    Throttle bracket

You can make your own adjustable linkage piece that connects to the carb from the kickdown rod. I made mine from a Lowes LH/RH turnabuckle $1.69 which works great for fine tuning. I used an old carb linkage rod from another Mopar and modified it. Sorry don't have a pic of it right now.

    Carb suggestions for 360

I'd go with a manual choke Holley or Speed Demon 750DP or an electric choke Edelbrock 800AVS carb. You live in NJ so you want a choke for a street car. I had the same cold start issues with my old Duster 340-4spd/508 cam. It had a chokeless 850cfm TQ on it.

    cam selection

I have the Comp Cam 280H in my 9 to 1 compression 360 with 1.88 heads, Weiand Stealth hi-rise, Eddy 750 carb and headers. Very streetable combo and pulls hard to 6000rpm.

    Torque Straps?

You can make one from the $1.69 turnbuckles sold at Lowes or Home Depot. I used it and a couple of chain links. The chain attached to upper hook is held by the motor ground bolt & washer in the drivers side head and I drilled a hole in the K-frame for the lower hook to fit in. Or you can buy the...

Whats my best carb with little work and good performance?

A 750cfm Edelbrock isn't too big for a mild 360 small block. Mine runs great with no issues at all. Any carb in the 600cfm-750cfm range will work as long as it's properly tuned. I prefer the larger carb for the top end power gain/advantage.

    350-400hp budget build 360 ideas???

I agree the 1.88's rebuilt with some minor work will give you the HP and save you money. My 360 combo is a 9:1 PAW short block with reworked 1.88 J-heads. 280H Comp Cam with Weiand Stealth manifold, 750 Eddy carb and Hooker headers. Runs great, pulls hard and lays rubber at will.

    Comp Cam XE284H

I have the 280H in my 360 with 2600 convertor and 3.91 gears. Pulls strong and great for the street. I'm sure the XE285 would be great also and provide alittle more upper end power.

.509 Purple cam in my want to buy 1971 Scamp

292/508 MP cam will be a dog on low end torque and with 3.55's. A 4-spd tranny is really best with the 508 cam and 3.91/4.10 gears. Beautiful car but swap the cam to something more streetable like a Comp Cam 274 or 280H or a Lunati Voodoo cam.

Car stalling due to gas boiling in the Carb

With today's crappy 10% ethanol gas this problem is worse than in the old days. If you are running uncoated headers this also adds alot of heat to the engine compartment. I run a 1" phenolic spacer between my Eddy 750 and Weiand Stealth manifold plus I wrapped my headers as much as possible...

Throttle return spring on Air Gap manifold

If you ever add a spacer under the carb you'll need to go with the taller custom brackets. I went the elcheapo way and added height to my bracket and fabbed a custom adjustable throttle preesure/kickdown rod.

    340ci vs 360ci engine

I agree especially if it's a non original 340 car that you own. A built 360 will run just as well as a built 340. I'm speaking from experience of my last two Dusters.

    To Much Cam?

4.10 gears, 3000stall convertor and more intial timing like 18-22 degreeswith a recurved distributor. Total timing all in by 2200-2400rpm. That should improve the low end response a bunch.

360 cam / valve train help / choices

On my 360/904 combo I have the Comp 280H, lifters & springs and really like it. I use the HD Mopar stamped rockers and my final compression is 9.0 to 1. The rest of the combo is a PAW 360 short block, reworked 360 heads with 1.88/1.60 valves, Weiand Stealth dual plane hi-rise, 1407 750cfm Eddy...

    Intake choices

RPM or Stealth imho. My 360 combo is basically the same as yours and I use the Weiand Stealth with a 750cfm Edelbrock manual choke carb. Great bottom end torque and pulls very strong all the way thru the power range with 3.91 gears.

    Timing issues

Run as much intial timing as you can with the 509 cam in a SB. Recurve the distributor if you have to get at least 18-20 degrees intial while keeping total at 34-36 degrees. You'll need 3.91 or 4.10 gears with it also. The 509 cam does pull very strong from 2500-6500rpm but is kinda...

    Carb tuning help

Your 360 really needs more cfm 750-800cfm for maximum performance. Mopar 1974 360HP motors came stock with an 850cfm Thermoquad. For your combo the 750 cfm Edelbrock 1407 out of the box would be just about perfect. Swap the stock 71/47 metering rods to 73/52's and bump your timing to 18 degrees...

    cam for a 360?

My Duster 360 motor with 9 to 1 compression runs & idles great with a 280H comp cam. Rebuilt 587 heads, Performer RPM manifold, Edelbrock 750 cfm #1407 carb & Hooker header. Rebuilt 904 transmission with a Hughes 2600 stall convertor. Rearend is an 8-3/4 with 3.91 gears and a Powertrax Locker. I...

    edelbrock surge

If it's the 1411 electric choke Eddy 750 you may be alittle too lean. Try going smaller on the metering rods to richen it up. If it's the manual choke 1407 you should be OK as it's jetted fatter. Also make sure you are using the correct metering rod springs for your engine vacuum per the manual.

    Thermoquad help

On the driver side of the secondary shaft you'll see two pieces that when enough throttle pressure is applied to make primaries about 2/3 open the one piece contacts the other and the secondaries open. Sorry I don't know the name of the pieces. That fast idle counterweight holds the the one...

    Thermoquad help

Also if you remove fast idle screw/counter weight piece the throttle linkage may not engage the secondary throttle blades. If you aren't using the fast idle screw leave it on but just back it off some. Look on the driver's side of the carb and make sure the lever thingy is activating the...

340 w/ edelbrock 750 need to know what jets to put in the carb.

My mildly built 360 with headers, 280H Comp cam and Weiand Stealth manifold runns excellent with an out of the box Edelbrock 1407 750cfm carb. All I did was move the pump shot arm down to the middle hole. Throttle response, performance and plugs are fine. I run a 1" 4 hole plastic spacer also...
