    727 dry start

Thanks guys, I guess I'm getting too freaked out in my old age. Low/no zinc oil (gonna use zinc break in oil) , rebuilt motor and transmission, even a different used transfer case. It's going to be a circus! I need to make more friends... I built it, yep I went by the book, soaked the...

    727 dry start

Thanks but....No... I know ultimately I'll have to check it that way. Three quarts just doesn't sound like enough to keep the trans lubed up after it fills all the dry places while I'm busy with the motor. How about this wonky question.....you prime motors, why not transmissions?

    727 dry start

I've rebuilt a 727 and put in as much fluid as the torque converter will hold. It also has a dry external cooler. I've added 3 quarts of fluid and the stick already reads full. When I'm ready to start it, should I pop a couple more quarts in ? Because it's a new motor and I'll be busy with...

Sorry, my mistake, I looked again and it had 4 disc .062 . Many many thanks for all the advice, especially the stuff that the books don't tell you!

    727 clutch pack clearance

What I was thinking was, now there's 4 sets in the front clutch pack but still 3 sets in the rear clutch. Is that ok, or does it make adding the extra set to the front pointless?

    727 clutch pack clearance

That part does look a little difficult. Now, you've solved the front clutch question, but does anything need to be done to the rear clutch to even out things, does it help any? If so, just the same tricks?

    727 clutch pack clearance

That's good to know, that gives me a good tolerance no matter how many discs I use. And to tell if the frictions are useable again.

    727 clutch pack clearance

Thanks, I understand how to measure the wavy ring for the clearance. So I can substitute the wavy ring for the solid ring without any other problems? That would get me the clearance I need.

    727 clutch pack clearance

Mine is the flat ring, is the wavy thinner?

    727 clutch pack clearance

The main question is the clearance on the front clutch pack. This is an unknown big block RV trans. The FSM calls for .082-.151. The original pack clearance measures in at .045..?.. BTW the original frictions look really good, wish I hadn't opened this unit up, eh too late now. The new...
