Turn a small drill press into a Bore/ Hone. Bolt it to the top of your engine block & do your own machining .

Just need to find a good friend (what "Bon Ami" means in French) with some books on machining practices.

    Recommendations for outdoor storage shed

I'm not sure why I stopped getting notifications, I missed like the last 10 posts and forgot about this thread! I checked the codes for GA and fortunately they're pretty lenient. Any structure that's under 120 square feet floor area doesn't need approval. In that case I guess I'll go for the...

Turn a small drill press into a Bore/ Hone. Bolt it to the top of your engine block & do your own machining .

Everybody told you the band saw piston hack wouldn't work, and it didn't. Maybe you should stop being so stubborn. This reminds me of my old boss trying to build a never-done-before device to spin at 20,000+ RPM. Instead of spending the initial money to hire a seasoned engineer with...

    Recommendations for outdoor storage shed

Ohh the 4x4s are vertical... I was thinking they were horizontal members so I was visualizing a rectangular pit 3 feet deep. See how clueless I am? LMAO I like the idea of using wood for the framing because I can build it in stages to some degree.

    Recommendations for outdoor storage shed

True I'm not trying to build a house lol. So are you saying the 4-bys should be 3 feet under ground level? That would mean I'd need some kind of excavating equipment? I'll hit YouTube for more info and visuals.

Could you guys post pics of these ideas? I have no real experience when it comes to building structures. I understand the basic engineering theory behind materials and geometry but never built a static structure myself especially in a DIY with raw materials kind of way. I'm sure I could do it...

    Recommendations for outdoor storage shed

I removed the word "cheap" from the title of the thread lol. At this point I figure if I'm going through the work to put together a shed I might as well do it right and make it permanent to the house. I haven't talked to my neighbors yet but from across the street it looks like most of their...

    Recommendations for outdoor storage shed

I saw that one while searching, noticed quite a few bad reviews complaining about the thin-ness of the steel and panels not lining up. Did you experience any of that?

    Recommendations for outdoor storage shed

Well it sounds like at this point I might as well wait and save up for something better. Similar rates for storage units around here, one place is $74/month for an 8'x10'. Most of my neighbors have sheds in their back yards so I'll go around and talk to them, see what they did. A nice shed...

    Recommendations for outdoor storage shed

That sounds nice and solid but more than what I need right now and prices are probably double what they were 15 years ago. I could deal with a rise for the entry with a ramp going up. I'm not sure how wood decking holds up in northeast GA though. I guess I'll stop by the Lowes near my work on...

    Recommendations for outdoor storage shed

I've finished moving into my new house that has a 2-car garage but half of the garage is currently taken up by all of my larger car parts (engines, transmissions, blocks, hoist etc.) and I want to get that crap out of there so I can actually use that garage space. I'd like to put a storage shed...

Turn a small drill press into a Bore/ Hone. Bolt it to the top of your engine block & do your own machining .

It's like a train wreck or car crash, it's disturbing but you can't look away. At least 5.2 blocks are plentiful and in low demand. If it was a 5.9 I'd be pissed.

Turn a small drill press into a Bore/ Hone. Bolt it to the top of your engine block & do your own machining .

At least it's concentric and finish is decent, better than a drill press will do ffs

Turn a small drill press into a Bore/ Hone. Bolt it to the top of your engine block & do your own machining .

Oh man haven't heard that name in a while, that's going way back! "I open up the exhaust ports on a 318 head and put in larger exhaust valves but leave the intakes alone because it helps cylinder filling something something blah blah..." Then sends a guy a pair of "worked" heads that look like...

Turn a small drill press into a Bore/ Hone. Bolt it to the top of your engine block & do your own machining .

This stuff reminds me of some of the ideas I came up with as a teenager. Then I went to engineering school and realized I didn't (and still don't) know jack ****... funny how that works. "The more you learn the more you realize how little you know." Dunning-Kruger effect. At the very least...

    Zero Turn Mower. I'm stumped.

Lucas Ethanol Treatment works wonders, never tried the ol' Sta-Bil because this stuff does what it advertises and is specifically intended for ethanol-gasoline blend fuels including E-85. I had a container of regular-grade E-10 that had to be at least 1.5 years old I gave to a friend with a...

    OBD2 Scanner Recommendation

You might be able to get something more affordable if you go with a scanner that's intended for a specific make and year range, or an "accessport" device and tuning software. I got a VCDS tool for my brother's 2005 VW Passat for a few hundo, full functionality outside of tuning mods (can read...

    digital caliper "skipping"?

Maybe they've been updated because I bought a new Mitutoyo caliper last year off McMaster-Carr and it works so much nicer than the multitude of Hazard Fraught ones I've used. No issues with it being too "tight", easy to slide but noticeably less play than the cheap ones, the jaws don't flex and...

    VFD

How fast is "fast enough"? We got a Clausing lathe at work built in 1975 and it's a tank, weighs 2500 lbs and has a 10hp (I think) motor with a hydraulically-controlled variable speed (basically like a CVT) along with 3-speed gearbox in the head. I think it maxes out around 3600 RPM but I've...

Finally figured out a pretty good way to remove old gasket material

What about a wire wheel? Stainless for steel parts, brass for aluminum? I use mine mainly for cleaning junk off old bolts but I've gotten gasket material off parts before too.

    Keurig users...help!

We have a Keurig in our kitchen that I use every day with one of the refillable screen pods and fresh-ground coffee from the grocery store. I fill the pod up and set it on "strong" 10oz cup and it comes out pretty much perfect for me (strong setting just pumps water through the pod slower)...

Long dremel bits, where to buy?

I'd also recommend something with more "beef" than a Dremel, I broke my old one when it chattered trying to clearance the pushrod holes in some aluminum heads. I bought a bigger one and also the flex extension so if that ever happens again it'll just toast the extension instead of the Dremel...

Those wheel ramp things for raising a car

No offense taken I just think out loud a lot, sometimes too much lol. I'm just curious what the difference is between jacking up the car and putting ramps under the wheels, and jacking up the car and putting stands under the frame? Other than being able to back the car off the ramps when done...

Those wheel ramp things for raising a car

I think it's worth it for what you are getting. Not quite my style though, I looked around on the site and found these: 9000-lb capacity!

Those wheel ramp things for raising a car

That sounds more legit maybe I'll check those out. The lighter duty ones shown earlier don't look beefy enough to make me comfortable using them. Daves69 having to jack one wheel up at a time kinda defeats the purpose if I had to do that I'd just put it on stands in the first place. You...

Those wheel ramp things for raising a car

Nice post Kurt... the problem with those two top ones is there's nothing supporting the top part in compression (pushing), the second set has those braces working in tension (pulling) which is useless when dealing with this much force. There needs to be a round cylindrical column of some sort...

    Duty cycle....

No doctorate here only a bachelor's... lol :evil3: In today's economy I would probably have an easier time getting a job if I had an ASE Gold cert though, no joke. Way too many kids with 4.0 GPA in their engineering degrees and they can't turn a wrench to save their lives (seen it myself...

Those wheel ramp things for raising a car

Ok i know a thing or two about proper structure to prevent stress failures (mechanical engineering degree) i'll make sure to get some that are really strong (steel, no plastic here). I'll put jackstands under the frame for extra insurance too :)

Those wheel ramp things for raising a car

Anybody on here use them? I've heard they're really dangerous but never really looked into why, i'd like to get some to save the 20 minutes or so i waste every time i want to go under my car using a jack and jackstands but i'd rather not risk squashing my brains out on the floor

    Duty cycle....

The duty cycle is usually determined by a standard ambient temperature, when it's hotter or colder outside it makes a huge difference. I'm guessing your grinder has a thermal shut-off switch to keep it from overheating as that can quickly destroy electric motors among other things.
