Sons 300m and I need help please!

Common issues with these is loss of bus communication. You need to check 5V reference on all sensors to make sure one isn't shorting out. The most common problem is a crank sensor or PCM in my experience. Your Bosch scannner may not be able to read U codes for communication error. Sometimes you...

Going to build a 440 - any thoughts?

I asked for thoughts 9 days ago on how to do this cheap. Machining a block and crank is not cheap. In the end, I decided in order to keep things moving and stay in an unemployed man's budget, this is what I will have to do. There is no unusual wear on the bearings. I'll plastigage everything to...

Going to build a 440 - any thoughts?

I am rebuilding what I've got. I'm staying stock low end with new rings and bearings. I'm going to do a light porting on the heads myself. I have a guy I've known for 20 years that owns a cylinder head shop and he advised aluminum heads because if he was to build my heads it would cost far more...

Going to build a 440 - any thoughts?

I would love to stroke it. $2000 - $2500 for a stroker kit is out of my range right now. I need to get an intake, headers, probably aluminum heads and a cam. That along with the machine work will take a large chunk of change.

Going to build a 440 - any thoughts?

I am not doing this in my A body, it is going in my Ramcharger. If you have ever been of fortrucksonly or ramchargercentral, you will understand why I am posting here. I'd like more than ten people to see this. I picked up a 77 440 last night from a great Mopar guy. I want to build it a bit...

    maximize shift points

Yes, the plan this winter is either an MSD 6AL-2 programmable or an MSD E-Curve distributor so I can get my timing better locked in with the different octane fuels I run. Some better carb tuning as well. This motor supposedly ran 11.27 in a Swinger with 3.55 gears. I would like to break into the...

    maximize shift points

I went out today to see what real life rpm was. It is very hard to simulate track conditions since I was on street tires and it's very hard to get any rpm under heavy acceleration without spinning the tires. It is very different on mid acceleration and hard acceleration. On mid acceleration -...

    maximize shift points

Winning is always cool. I hit the track just once in my life and it was on a street legal night. $25 all you can run. You need a valid license, a street legal car and a Snell helmet. I got in 5 runs and won all of them. The closest was a Nomad. I didn't see him along side of me, and he wasn't in...

    maximize shift points

I run a Dana 60 with 4.10 gears. I run a 27" tire at the track and I have a 3000 rpm stall converter. I am running NGK plugs at this time, but at the dyno it was Champions. I'm not sure of the heat range on the plug right now, I'd have to pull one and look.

    maximize shift points

I am looking to maximize my shift points the next time I hit the track. I hit my best torque at 3900 to 4900 rpm. I had been winding to 6000 before shifting, but I wonder if I should shift sooner and use the torque to pull me faster. Being a novice, I am open to opinions. What do you all think...

    360 Crate Engine enhancements

I love my RPM air gap intake. I agree with the higher compression if you want to go that far. Otherwise, porting the upper end and a nice hot cam will help as well. There are way too many cam threads for me to recommend one. But, if you want to have a lot of fun, stroke it, baby! I love my stroker.

    Solid Engine Mounts, 408 in a 71 Dart..thoughts?

X2. I use them on my 408 and have no issues. I run TTi headers as well. It is tight around the steering, especially at the coupler, but once tou get the engine in just right it will clear. I also run a Schumacher torque strap and I have never had any issues with engine shifting or headers hitting.

    weird smelling smoke!?! please help!

Yes and no. Virtually everyone who times their car by ear will have it too far advanced. That's because the car seems to run better and with more power. However, you have to remember that every spark is a mini explosion. You want the piston in the optimal position when that happens. Otherwise...

    weird smelling smoke!?! please help!

Total should probably be around 32 degrees with that compression and set up, but I will defer to those who know better. I have 11.8:1 compression. When I tune it down to run on pump gas I run around 26 to 28 degrees total timing. When I run race gas, I tune it up to 38 degrees total. The if I...

    weird smelling smoke!?! please help!

You are running rich. You see a lot of souped up cars that smoke when you get on it. Getting the carb in tune is a never ending process sometimes. My Holley is causing the same problem. It is the carb the engine was dyno'd on and I am sure they tuned it for maximum power, but that has little to...

Thinking of going to E85 on the Dart

It's 105 octane. That is what you want. Otherwise I run pump gas in my 500hp 408 and retard the timing so much I lose a shitload of hp. Then I go to the track, fill up on 103 octane race gas and crank the timing back up to get my 500hp back. I want 500hp all the freakin' time. I'm 11.8 : 1...

Thinking of going to E85 on the Dart

For me it will cost a few jets and metering rods, maybe a new fuel pump and a case of beer. I am going to get the test kit, but it doesn't test octane, just the ethanol level. http://www.jegs.com/i/Quick+Fuel/793/36-E85/10002/-1

Thinking of going to E85 on the Dart

Thinking of going to E85 on the Dart

The motor I got from you is in and close to running, LXGuy. I put a 200R4 behind it and TTi headers. The headers are my main issue with it not being on the road yet, but I expect that 408 to be running this weekend.

Thinking of going to E85 on the Dart

The guy helping me with my motor and tranny install is a good friend and is the crew chief on a race team. He has a friend locally who does this with great results. They actually have one of the race cars set up for it. It would be tuned and timed at the same time, so I am not concerned about...

Thinking of going to E85 on the Dart

As we are installing my 408 in the Dart, we are talking about the need to use race gas or adjust the timing when using pump gas. The thought is that using pump gas and dialing back the timing could bring me closer to 400hp rather than 500hp. Tom has a buddy who does an E85 changeover that...

    OEM balancer or fluid damper?

The silicone fluid flows at very low temps. I have heard this argument before, but I just don't buy it. It's not like it is full of 50W oil. And there is very little fluid in it as well. Regardless, my car only sees the road in the summer, so it won't be an issue.
